All-State Honors

Ohio Lax

When the All-Ohio teams were released today, I couldn't help but notice that there was one R4 player making the 1st-team in both division I and II. I know there are many Cincinnati are players that deserve to make 1st-team. Anybody have any explanations for this? I've heard that almost everyyear there is a lack of votes/teams for the voting.

I don't believe any player from R4 made 1st team in Division 2.

Can't believe they had 2 defenders from Wellington on the 1st team in Division 2...

First of all, congratulations to all of those players who were honored. Great job gentelmen! Not sure of the explanation but feel there were a few key players overlooked for 1st and 2nd team honors.

Aslo wonder why Ohio south only gets one academic all-american pick and the north gets 3? You would think the region would want to highlight those students who manage to dedicate themselves to the sport of lacrosse, finish top in their class AND exhibit good sportsmanship....

All-Ohio Honors

First- as said previously congratulations to all the players nominated and recognized with post season honors this season

Second- congrats to Loveland and Milford on representing Cinci in their respective state finals. Great accomplishment for Loveland's first year in D2 including huge win over defending champ Warriors and playing a tough final vs. University School. Also big for Milford who has improved steadily in the club division over past several years!

Nomination for all-state honors are based on regional honors with first team all-region winners being put "on the ballot" for all-state honors. After that, voting is by coaches in respective divisions who can not vote for their own players.

Given there are 2 regions in Columbus (twice as many coaches) and that they play each other more often, there is an inherent bias that Columbus (R1, R2) players are going to be more recognizable and respected by the majority of voting coaches at state level.

Sadly, given Cinci's overall poor record vs. D1 Columbus competition (1 win for Moe vs. TW, 1 win for X vs. Scioto) and the lopsided scores of most of the contests, it isn't a big suprise that our regional players didn't get a lot of support as "best in state" from our cousins up north.

As far as All American slots go, I believe that is based on # of teams in each region- 15 D1 in Columbus, 10 in Cleveland, 8 in Cinci. Not sure exactly how many slots are given but our region gets the least since we have the fewest teams represented.

Congrats to all the teams and players this year... keep that stick in your hand!
