The loser of Oregon Ohio State should actually be 6th. The committee will probably screw this up however. Logically if they are 1 and 2, playing in the B18 championship game, and it is a close game, they theoretically would still be the 2 best teams, hence should meet in the finals, not the semis.

What would make you think they were #1 and #2? Just because they don't have a strong schedule like the SEC teams? This is again the fallacy of all this. Good heavens Oregon had to fight for their life to beat Wisconsin and Bama crushed Wisky up there??? And Bama won't even make the playoffs?? You HAVE to use the few common opponents as data, it's the only way.

I didn’t say I thought they were. But it’s logical that they will be.

I'm sure you agree that a 3rd loss eliminates any team. Your post is not forward-thinking.

Somebody is losing the Georgia/Tennessee game. Someone is losing the Texas/Texas A&M game. Somebody is losing the SEC championship game. Key games below. At least two and possibly 3 of these teams end up with 3 losses. Which means bye-bye.

- Bama has: @ Oklahoma, Auburn
- Ole Miss has: @ Florida, Miss State

- Georgia has Tennessee and GA Tech
- A&M has: @ Auburn, Texas
- Texas has: @ Arkansas, Kentucky, @ A&M
- Tennessee has: Georgia, @ Vandy
LOL. Yep.

Bye bye Bama. Bye bye Ole Miss. Bye bye A&M.

Could it be that only 2-3 SEC teams make the 12 team playoffs? Man I hope so. A conference full of good teams, but obviously none are great. If you lose 3 times, you are not great, you are Earle Bruce level.

Edit: Hoping A&M and Georgia beat Texas. Knock out those pretenders. They have no quality wins.

Teams like Oklahoma and Florida have talent, but regularly shoot themselves in the ace with self-inflicted boneheaded mistakes. A good example is Boomer Sooner marching down the field against Bama only to walk away with 0 points after dropping a wide open double pass for a TD and line drive knuckle balling wide left a less than 40 yard FG.

If you’re Alabama or Ole Miss and you miss the playoffs for having 3 losses and losing to the likes of those knuckleheads, it’s your own damn fault.

Seems like maybe the SEC needs to play only 7 conference games. It’s just too difficult.

It's only logical in records only, not taking into account who they play, how the games went. The playoff should be really interesting.
it’s pretty much the consensus now that they are 1 and 2. And it will remain that way if Ohio State beat Oregon in the B18 championship game

How much better do the playoffs look if we just went with Josh Pate’s Top 12? That looks highly enticing!

Why waste our time with DEI candidates like Indiana, Boise State and the Big 12?
Looks like a talent rating, with a few exceptions to me. On the field results matter. Florida and USC are 6-5 and ranked in the top 20. Both are 10th in their respective conferences.

South Carolina ironically must become huge Clemson fans this week. If Clemson beats SMU, I don’t see how you can put SMU or even Miami in over a South Carolina team that just won on the road at Clemson and has been on a roll down the stretch.

Then the argument would turn into, do you put SCar in over teams that it lost to (Bama and Ole Miss)? I think I would.

…and then you put SMU in over Indiana. How can you penalize SMU for having a tougher schedule than Indiana, similar loss, but losing in a conference championship?

I’d almost argue South Carolina is already in and other than playing in the cold should be a favorite over ND or PSU.

Still can’t believe OSU lost. Insane.

SMU and Indiana are similar cases: Weak schedules, 11-1 regular seasons. Indiana has played only two close games all season: Michigan and at Ohio State.

SMU losing at home to BYU is a worse loss than Indiana getting avalanched at Ohio State. SMU has also been in a few more competitive games than Indiana has.

SMU’s schedule — aside from BYU, at Louisville, at Duke — was extremely weak. To me, the Clemson game is a “prove it against a legit opponent or go home” game IMO for SMU.

I just don’t see the committee leaving out an 11-1 Big Ten team even though their schedule was miserable.

The four ACC and Big 12 teams playing in Saturday’s title games will be rooting hard for UNLV on Friday night.

I have seen a lot who have PSU ahead of OSU, which doesn't make sense, given the results of the game they played. But pretty much no one wants to watch an OSU v IU rematch. It further illustrates how stupid the conference champions getting byes. I probably would put OSU at 5 or 6.

You just know that, somehow, Alabama will sneak in. There will be more controversy this year than with the four team playoff.

Notre Dame 66, Purdue 7
Penn State 49, Purdue 10

Notre Dame 49, USC 35
Penn State 33, USC 30 OT

Apparently the committee must have been impressed by Penn State’s recent one-point survival at mediocre Minnesota.

And of course the incompetent committee is chaired by Big Ten Wonk AD Warde Manuel who presided over a massive cheating scandal. Coincidence why Perpetually Overrated Penn State is over-inflated again!?
