2025 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Singer, Lux, Trevino, Hayes, Rogers, plus a minor league courtesy contract to Wade Miley is a decent off season for Krall and the Reds. Throw in Terry Francona as manager and better luck and health for the rest of the squad, maybe the 2025 Reds can finish above .500 and be in the playoff discussion past Labor Day. Hope springs eternal.
I saw a projection today by some group that put the Reds at 73.5 wins this season. If that ends up happening, there will be a lot of disappointed Reds fans. Either the masses don't think much of the Reds adds, or the Reds have done a wonderful job of upping our expectations of this team.

I like Francona but he has nothing on Bruce Bochy or Tony La Russa
You just named a couple of the best managers in the last 50 years, so your bar is pretty high. I'm not an Indians/ Guardians fan, but I always felt he just did more with less. For a team situated like the Reds, we need to be able to do more with less. I do know one thing, the pre and post game manager comments will be worthwhile to listen to. Bell just said nothing and it makes you wonder if he ever did anything. He was stoic to a fault. I think if something is bothering Francona, we'll know it.

Krall addressed the needs of the club within the resources allowed. The hope comes from: Francona's magic as manager, if McLain is healthy and produces, and ELDC and Greene play at an all star level. If they pan out as hoped, this is a 90+ win team. If any fall short it is a sub .500 season once again. Given the Reds 30+ year history of mediocrity, the media and fans simply expect the Reds to fail.

Did you even read the previous post? He was trying to say there’s an argument for Francona to be the best manager in the last few decades and I pointed to them to show that he wasn’t.

That's why I used the word "arguably". He is in the discussion.

I'll grant you that Bochy certainly has the better record and the WS titles. He is a tremendous manager. His rosters helped a lot with the results - way better than Tito's Cleveland rosters in general. Tito does more with less, in general.

LaRussa has not been relevant since St Louis in like 2010 or 2011. He did take some naps in the White Sox dugout in the last decade. He would be in the discussion if I said the last 3-4 decades.

Do not be concerned - these are just the PECOTA projections. They are 100% based on player's past performance projecting into the current year. Their algorithm does not do very well with young players that have little to no history. Why the PECOTA system continues to get publicity is beyond me.

As I posted last page - bet the over on season wins at 78 or 78.5. Reds will cover that with the big IF. IF they can have better health than last year.
- IF Greene, Singer, Lodolo are all healthy, that is a fearsome top 3 in the rotation. Best in the Central, and it isn't really close.
- IF the young hitters are healthy the Reds can have an average to slightly above average lineup, which they did not have last year when they won 77 games.

Both of them have won titles with two different teams and Tito only won in Boston. I’m not sure that Tito does less with more either. His only example is Cleveland and as much as I HATE that franchise and everything they represent, they always have maximized their talent and been very successful.

I don't really ever consider anyone as a great manager, it's more about the players. But I've always liked Francona in the fact that he's been able to do more with less. No, he's not a big winner, but he's managed teams where adding talent hasn't happened. Dave Roberts and Aaron Boone are managing completely different baseball teams than most of baseball. You have an endless supply of talent and the abilty to go buy what you need, managing is very easy. Go manage the Florida Marlins and check back with me.

Whatever the Reds did or didn't do during the offseason hasn't necessarily impressed the masses. I've not seen anyone yet that is real high on the Reds this season.

Well we're 3 days into spring training and Rhett Lowder is being limited due to elbow soreness (precursor to Tommy John) and now today we "find out" that Spencer Steer had a shoulder injury last year that going to limit him to just DH-ing early in spring training??? I mean we're what, we're 4 1/2 months post 2024 season and guys are STILL hurt??? I can't stand it.

Saw a projected lineup.
- McLain 2B
- Elly SS
- Stephenson C
- Steer 1B
- Candelario DH
- Friedl CF
- Lux 3B
- Hays LF
- Fraley RF

Not sure how I feel about the lack of CES and Marte. I guess we will learn more as spring training moves along...

This is why I was more concerned with finding a new medical staff than a new manager. Our medical staff has to be the worst in MLB if not all of sports. These injuries are past the point of bad luck injuries.
