2025 Cincinnati Reds Thread

Spartacus --Look at how many times Tito took the Indians.Guardians to the playoffs .. Like 75% of the time was there and the last yr was a throw away yr really so it was more . Yes, only one World Series appearance WHICH I WILL ADMIT , he made a bad call running Kluber out there on 2 days rest in game 7 . BUT,They had the game until the rain delay ,then it slipped through their grasp .
Yup. Tito is one of the best today. Always gets max results with a subpar roster. Hopefully he can do it again.

Bad news from the Reds minor leagues. One of the Reds top pitching prospects, Rhett Lowder, started for Louisville last night and lasted all of 11 pitches. He left holding his side, which would likely indicate some kind of oblique injury. It's not an arm injury but it tends to be debilitating. The one thing I remember from seeing Lowder last year some was that his delivery was pretty violent, not smooth.

If you're ever going to run out your ace on short rest, when else would be the right time? I'm sure it's a thing where he hoped he'd get 2-3 innings out of him.

Rhett Lowder appears to have picked up an oblique or abdominal injury tonight. Yay.

Bummer for that pitcher .If it is in fact an oblique, seems like those take forever to come back fully 100 from .

Oh yes, you can add the Padres in that mix too. I just want you guys too look at ALL the teams that overspend, not just the ones that win the WS.

To me when fans complain about their owners and GM's not spending money, it's because they don't want to criticize their own players. Fans have a hard time actually blaming the players who win or lose games. They'd rather put it on some guy up in the corner office who's not swung a bat in years.
I don't know what you're talking about. Reds players have individually gotten plenty of criticism. See Candelario. The Reds front office gets criticized because they deserve it. They built a roster playing players out of their positions forcing a manager to sacrifice on defense because they can't sign 3 Major League outfielders. When they do spend, they miss. Tells me they don't know how to evaluate talent. For a team that rarely spends, when they do, they have to get it right.

The Padres have 4 winning seasons the past 5 years, are on their way to 5 in 6, have three playoff berths in that stretch, and have won four playoff series in that time. They are currently in the liveliest rivalry in the game (Dodgers vs Padres). Their expenditures have resulted in an enthusiastic fanbase that sells out Petco Park nearly every night, creating easily one of the best atmospheres in the game.

In other words, the Padres are doing things right (besides the awful Bogaerts contract) and are blowing organizations like the Reds out of the water, yet you try to cast aspersions at teams like them.

Meanwhile, GABP got invaded by thousands upon thousands of Cubs fans last night as sucky Ian Gibaut, head-scratchingly brought back to the team by the clueless front office over Lyon Richardson, lit the fuse on a Reds bullpen immolation.

The Padres, meanwhile, beat Chris Sale 2-1 in Atlanta.

Yay Poverty Ball! Gimme my bobblehead! Gimme my concert! Lemme bring my dog to the game! Go Garrett Hampson, hit a dinger! Strike ‘em out, Ian! Yay!

Every Reds fan should be fed up.

Every team has a certain and limited number of throw away games and the Reds have reached that number. They cannot afford more. Undoubtedly 14Red will tell us it’s early and games in September mean more. They actually mean exactly the same and the fact that they’ve used up those mistakes only 52 games in is exactly what is concerning about this team.

The Reds are a bad weekend away from being an after thought. We have a struggling Cubs pitcher that has been in and out of the bullpen and should be a prime candidate for an offensive explosion. The last time the Reds faced one of these was in Pittsburgh and nearly were the victim of a complete game shutout. Sunday we had consistent Nick last start and are due for inconsistent Nick against a lineup you cannot afford inconsistencies with.

The Reds just need to stay within striking distance i n the WC . The Cubs are the class of the division and its not really close. St Louie will always hang around but I do believe the Reds could catch them enentually. And Milwakee is a fraud .No sizzle on that team . They will fade

Wild card? The East and West will get all the wild cards. Right now with LA and Philly leading those divisions, the Mets, Giants and Padres hold down the WC, the Diamondbacks are strong, and the Braves just got Acuna and Strider back.

There will be no Central team in the WC. Too much money and power in the teams mentioned above. Reds only hope is winning the division.

well then they re dead .no way they finish ahead of the Cubs . Tito will keep them in the WC race though . Tito is best mgr in baseball . flip boing

Barring injury, the Wild Card is going to the East and West. Only hope is catching the Cubs who, according to run differential, are playing below expectations. Even in May the Reds playoff chances look very bleak.

What’s really difficult is the Reds are almost never outright terrible, they’re just mediocre. They’re the Anaheim Angels of the NL. Never terrible enough to accumulate high draft picks to rebuild but never good enough to ever push for a legitimate playoff run.

That’ll die down when football starts but until then, there’s not much else.

I’ll watch the CWS until all the Big Ten teams are eliminated. This time of year though is solely for getting caught up on TV shows and a lot of movies. I’ll also watch some NBA playoffs

I've always said you can't win the division in April or May, but you can lose it. I'm all for doing everything you can to win today.

This weekend was the proverbial sledgehammer between the eyes. Friday, up 6-2, the lead is blown big time in a 13-6 loss. You bounce back nicely and take a 6-4 win Saturday, today, after 5 innings it's 8-3. You emplode again and lost 11-8. Literally a handfull of innings and a solid bullpen from sweeping the Cubs, instead you lost 2 of 3 and really put yourself in a tough spot moving forward.

The bullpen was due for regression. The Reds don’t have any stars in that unit, and they’ve mostly been performing at levels that seem unsustainable so far this season.

I like how he politically used the word “built”. As if a shred of thought went into constructing this roster and it isn’t just a patchwork mashup of 2Bs and SS that they could afford.
Amazing, right? You have a ballpark built for HRs and you "build" a roster full of contact hitters and middle infielders, as you state. Guys like Espinal, Friedl, Hays, Lux, Trevino, Stephenson, etc. etc. etc. are good ball players but not what you need in this home park.

Yikes and no hope in sight it appears. I wouldn’t be opposed to the franchise moving to another city
Pretty much the only givens at this point are Burns and Lowder eventually taking the rotation spots currently occupied by Martinez and Singer.

It seems like Sal Stewart and maybe Cam Collier (both 3B) are the only hitting prospects who could be relevant to the major-league team in the next year or two. Edwin Arroyo was hyped by some, but he appears to be just mediocre at the plate with little power, and that’s in the minors. He’s still young, though.

Who wants to take bets on which of the above guys the Reds try to turn into outfielders?
