2025 Cincinnati Area Open Jobs

I don’t think Monahan would be a good fit. He’s been at McNich for so long I’m assuming he’s Catholic. Plus, we’ve had an up and down fast paced offense and walking the ball up the court isn’t appealing.
I'm not being smart.... asking a serious question. Would him being Catholic make him not a good fit at a Christian school?

Getting a GCL coach at Walnut would be the BEST situation possible to get the very best coaching for the program. Have wondered for many many years all the way back to the Peterson years at West High when Timmons couldn’t beat a well undermanned Elder team what would have been the result if Shoenfeld was on the West High sideline instead with that talent. Have watched CPS cycle though coaches like no other praying that just once they’d find a Mike Price or Kramer type coach just to see. Walnut has a chance to see if that disciplined, hard nosed defensive (GCL) mindset would translate. If I’m the administration, I’d take it.
Nothing against the others that applied or at least had their names dropped here, but that seems more of the same that they had there already. If you want to change the culture, which is in need of significant change, then go big with the change. We will see which way this turns out.

That is a legitimate question and I’ll try to answer with no theological differences. Most Catholics would call themselves Christians but they wouldn’t call themselves protestants. Christian’s that aren’t Catholic would definitely call themselves protestants. We share the same name Christian but have very different beliefs. True practicing Catholics would likely feel uncomfortable in a Protestant worship, setting and likewise protestants uncomfortable in a Catholic worship setting. This is the last thing I’ll say cause I know that this is not a theology board. But there’s actually hundreds of differences and one of the biggest is when protestants take communion the wine and the bread is a representation of the body and blood of Christ. The Catholic Church teaches that the blood and the wine actually becomes the body of Christ, the physical body of Christ. They believe that you’re eating his flesh and drinking his blood.

I tried to answer the best I could without starting a debate.

Who do you think is should be?? An have have you saw any of the other coaches teams play? I believe the cycle of coaches in CPS is a correlation to pay in other leagues for coaches. Most coaches gain experience in CPS and leave for better salaries IMO.

I wont pretend to know the semantics of Christianity in general vs the specific sects of religion in a school setting(Like mvca or chca); I know this doesn't cover everyone there, but I live in Anderson twp, and everyone I know at MVCA, now or in the past is Catholic. I'm sure many are not. But many are

That’s interesting. We’ve been there for over 10 years and I know a handful of Catholics that attend, but not many are practicing Catholics.

Yes it would be a change but 1 the pay in CPS for a coach SUCKS and 2 the administration is worse, knowing the last two head coaches and staff very well from Walnut there are things from that admin office that prevented a change in culture that was being targeted. So any coach coming in will have to fight a battle on both sides to change the culture there.

Unless you're in the GMC or at Milford, coaches pay is crap. It's a non issue.

That is false CHL, ECC, GCL pays well, and even some MVC pays well. CPS is at the very bottom of the pay scale for coaches and that is why you see some of the same coaches recycle because they work in CPS already their pay doesn't change they may get an occasional bump. But if the opportunity arises they are leaving for a better conference

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Walnut hires Romell Salone. He is an alumni that has coached at Walnut off an on for over a decade. He also has a son that plays basketball for the junior high. At one point he was an AD for CPS.

Didn't apply would be the best choice honestly

If the name drops are accurate, I’m jumping at the chance to put Monahan in charge of the program and see if that culture change and style, with that talent, works. To actually have an offensive structure and demand discipline on the defensive end, I just want to see it. Doesn’t mean athletes can’t be athletes and aren’t free to make plays, it just means there will be some structure to what the heck goes on the court.

And let me add, maybe, just maybe he’d have a few inbounds plays that actually get people open looks. I’m factual when I say it was painful to watch Walnut try an inbound the ball. 🤣

Definitely could have been better on the inbounds it was extremely painful to watch but as I stated there were a lot of Admin issues some parents and other policies that truly stopped the culture change at Walnut. I will still be there to support my alma mater even though my guys aren't there but I hope more than a coaching change will occur

I wonder if Tim Sullivan (Cooper) is getting any looks in Cincinnati. He's a good coach.

Will be interesting to see if he can somehow hold onto his job at Cooper with all of the community and alumni support he's been getting.

Please fill me in on what's so bad about working with Steele at Walnut?
I dont know anything or anyone at walnut, but CPS, as a whole, is difficult to work with. I'm not sure how long ago this started, but CPS contracts with a company that hires AD's for each school, and their salary is a joke for the work they have to do.

I wouldnt be surprised if many of these folks coach all year, or have another job to supplement their income. The last I saw, these folks start in the mid $30 k's

Aiken will begin interviews this week or by Monday next week . Norwood seems to almost always slow roll this makes the summer alot harder . Walnut will look hard at Wright but he needs freedom to do things. Anyone have any idea about Purcell?

In terms of CPS you get what you pay for. Josh Hardin (district AD) is notorious for saying he can "always find cheap coaches". They have the same mentality about athletic directors. So of course you are not gonna hire and keep great talent, eventually they will leave for much greener pastures.

Unfortunate but true

Feels like Aiken leaning towards young asst. saw someone say opening at Norwood is posted until May 1(!). Any idea who leader at Norwood is? Or short list? If walnut let’s cash have some freedom, think he’ll crush it there.
