I've heard that Watterson, DeSales and Hartley have all had some talented kids transfer in or are considering transferring in. I imagine we'll know a lot more about these kids once this school year is over and summer workouts start in 2 weeks. Without knowing much about transfers I'd say 7-2 is about right for DeSales, that's a pretty easy schedule. I'd put Hartley at 5-5, that is not an easy schedule. And Watterson at 9-0, that schedule is just right (although I'm still holding out hope that Hoban v Watterson somehow happens week 7 but I'm not holding my breath.)

On Watterson's schedule, Big Walnut, Middletown and Harvest Prep are probably the toughest games and all have a shot of winning. Big Walnut is coming off a great run and has a lot of talent coming back but will they be able to muster some offense vs Watty's D this year? I believe Middletown won the Delaware state title in the state's largest division last year and they expect to repeat this year. Harvest Prep has got talent but do they have the depth and discipline to battle for 4 quarters? DeSales and Hartley are probably middle tier competition this year and the rest of the schedule should be running clocks.

@hdvhsmgr any idea how the schedules for these teams are going to look in 2026 when the scheduling alliance w/ Walsh and Ursuline go into effect?

Nothing yet. I'm waiting for DeSales and Watterson to figure out what they are doing Weeks 6 and 7 before I ask. I do have very few games for them already scheduled though.

DeSales 7-3
St. Charles 4-6 maybe 5-5

Funny thing about HS is stuff changes SO fast. Kids graduate, Others get bigger, stronger, transfer in, etc..... Last year i was asked a few times at work if Watterson would be as good as the state runner up and my honest answer was i doubt it but they have a good amount of talent coming back so expect a long playoff run. WRONG - team was 2X better. Everything watty fans were concerned about went to the positive side of ledger.

New QB - no problem- ALL state performance.

RUN GAME In 2023 struggled to run block with Oline and Weber didn't explode the way some thought he would his Junior year running ball - no worries, Oline was possibly the best in the state and Weber arguably had best season any RB in history of school (while play full time Def too)

Losing All time great LB in Dom Purcell to Navy - no problem, 2 sophs who never started a def game in HS Ben Uhlenhake and Michael Boyle in middle will be as good if not better from a production standpoint!

starting 7 sophs doesn't feel good - but it was!!!!

Losing all state and D1 college kicker - pick up 2 reliable options that didn't hurt team

My point here is we just won't know for a few months as I sit here today, I see watty as repeating for state title -- but i don't know what i don't know -

Watterson 10-0 (I'm giving them the win versus the unknown opponent)

Just saw DeSales schedule release on Twitter. Two things: 1. They filled week 7 with a team from WV. 2. They list St. Charles as Broad Street but list Watterson & Hartley normally. Is that a thing? DeSales considers St. Chuck’s a rival & won’t say their name?

Also looks like Ironton just opened week 7. If Watterson v Hoban won’t happen I’d take Ironton as an alternative.

Ironton vs Watterson would be a nice matchup. I would assume Ironton would want that to be a home game for them which isn’t bad. It’s a great environment and fun experience at Ironton.

One big issue is that Watterson is already going to lronton in Week 2.
Yeah, I don’t see Watterson wanting to travel to Ironton twice in one season but F it…sign a 2 year contract. Ask Ironton to come to Columbus this year & make the trip there next year. I know the scheduling alliance will help a lot next year but Watterson is still going to have difficulties scheduling in ‘26. Go down to Ironton week 5 next year since that’ll probably be the toughest week for them to schedule.

Ironton backs out of two year contracts. Just an FYI. Lol

Do I detect some bias? DeSales schedule is easy but Hartley’s is “not easy”? KIPP, Elyria Catholic, and Watkins……besides St Chuck’s (who Hartley also plays) name a school on DeSales schedule worse than those 3. The WV and KY school DeSales plays are usually solid programs….but Ohio football is a different level than KY and WV for the most part

You're right KIPP is bad. Elyria Catholic and Watkins probably comparable to Northland and Africentric. Walnut Ridge is better than and beat both Northland and Africentric last year. Walsh and Ursuline are light years better than both of the OOS schools on DeSales schedule and better than Orange. The bottom of Hartley's schedule is slightly worse than DeSales. The top of Hartley's schedule is significantly better than DeSales.

IDK if either teams schedule is easy or hard but Hartley having Ursiline and WJ stand out as HUGE challenges to go along with those weaker looking teams. My guess on way to early records:

Hartley 5-5 win 1 playoff game
Watterson 10-0 Repeat State champions
Desales 7-2 Win 2 playoff games
St Charles 3-7 Lose 1st rd playoffs

I agree with this…..except put DeSales at 8-2 now that they have a full schedule and I don’t feel as confident about 2 playoff wins. If they end up with a team similar to Ashland again in round 2 it’s over

Definitely agree with your last statement

Yes - 8-2. My outside perception is Desales skilled kids are going to be solid (QB, RB, TE, DB's) but lines might take a step back? Is that fair?

I feel DeSales benefited from an easy schedule last season. With that being said I believe they’ll go 6-4 maybe best case 7-3 with 1 playoff win.

Absolutely…..hard to lose a 2 way player like Neubert and not step back. Still a lot of D line talent but O line could be an adventure

Anything can happen…..DeSales losing to Ready the same year they beat Watty. I wouldn’t be shocked if they go 6-4 but am hoping/thinking 8-2. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they only get 1 playoff win. Barely missing D3 really hurts their chances of 2 or 3 playoff wins

Will Watterson or St. Charles be competing in the OSU 7 on 7 on June 11? Hartley will be there and I assume DeSales would be as well?

Watterson is doing the June 18th session at OSU and the event Pick North is hosting on June 26th.
Nice! Would love for Hartley to participate in the Pick North 7 on 7 but their football camp is that week. They do have a 7 on 7 scheduled with Pick North June 16 which maybe just a practice session.

Don't want to use the "R" word, but I think Hartley is going to benefit from two things. 1. Marion Franklin is doomed. The school board wants to close it. Football players will start to gravitate toward Hartley. And just show up. 2. If the offense changes from biddy ball to a balanced, throwing team, more families from Walnut Ridge, Independence, East, and Eastmoor will think about sending their kids to Hartley. Not sure that translates to anything on the field this season, but could be interesting. I'm a biddy ball bigot, so I think teams that switch from run first scheme to something more open lose physicality. We'll see in the line play against Ursuline whether that's the case for the Hawks.

Hartleys freshman turn out for football is one of the largest for them in recent years which may not translate to anything or could be the beginning of something lol. Some of those freshman are the younger siblings of kids who played ball last year at other local high schools (not in Columbus) who now play college football.

I am anxious to see how things go. There will be growing pains with a change in philosophy. But I do believe they have the talent to be good this season! The schedule is brutal so they will have to overcome some adversity. The games at Ursuline, Walsh, and Watterson will be incredible test for this team!!
