2024 VASJ Vikings Football **Official Thread**

You mean the same chicken s@#t Lake Catholic that won't play VASJ. I'm surprised Lake has a scrimmage with Kirtland - it's not their style to let a little D6 school kick the crap out of them.
Like I said, you are the biggest clown show on this site.
Oh wait, should have known, another Lake Catholic schmuk that spews BS that makes their more respectable supporters look bad.
What’s wrong with you people at the Viking Village? That guy is not from Lake. So much hate. Pretty sad really.

No scrimmage updates from bball216? Crickets in the Viking Village.
To answer your question LC (and we always appreciate your concern and interest in all things Vikings) the Vikes need to sharpen some things up after scrimmage #1, like many teams early in the season. But they do get that opportunity as they'll take on Wheeling Park, WV this Friday, 6pm, at Akron's InfoCision Stadium. Hoping for a good performance with week #1 right around the corner!!

Against a weak team. I’m assuming Joes dominated.
From the sounds of it, things looked sloppy, (expected in first live action of the year.) the kids were not satisfied with how they did and know they can be better. Which is all you can ask for if you want to be competitive, especially in this meat grinder of a region. We will see how the respond in their scrimmage against Wheeling Park down in Akron.

And also a girl's school got there name first...villa Angela- st joes....lol
Nobody's lol-ing, those jokes were in style back in the early 90's. Way to be original.

And my god, learn some correct punctuation, grammar and correct spelling if you're going to troll on someone else's page.

It's almost week 1 of high school football, this isn't amateur hour anymore. Pick your game up!! 😆

Just ignore the trolls.....like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum, it will stop if they are ignored.

Ay feedback on the scrimmage?

Definitely news to me but appreciate that info. Wonder why they moved it from Green Street?
Considering they play the Irish this year ,I would think a scrimmage on their home field makes it real easy to scout in the Vikings in the comfort of your own stands. Just a thought.

Week 1 for the Vikings begins at GlenOak Friday. A big D1R1 opponent that won some big games last season. I think you'd have to go back pretty far for a season as anticipated as this one, given the talent for us. A challenging schedule with some new names and a lot of familiar ones. Ursuline has had our number in 2022 and 2023 and it feels like they'll be the top dog in the region with Chardon, until proven otherwise. Feels like the best version of this team maintains the Rotsky style of running the football and controlling the clock but can also utilize two big time pass catchers without turning it over. On defense, they'll have to replace some long time contributors so it should be fun to see who steps up.

Well said, I’m looking forward to seeing how they come out. I won’t be able to get out to Canton Friday but hopefully GlenOak has a good stream to watch the game.

Agree, well said.

Did anyone get a chance to go to the scrimmages? How do we look at Quarterback?

Vuraich will be fine at QB. He started both of the St.V and CCC game and did fairly well. I think having a whole offseason of getting reps in will go along way with how he can perform.

If he can execute and help move the ball downfield, that is the important thing moving forward.

Good luck to the Vikings as they travel down 77 S tonight to take on GlenOak. Kickoff slated for 7pm tonight.

Best of luck to the Vikings tonight...I wish I could be there.

I realize Frosh scores mean absolutely nothing, but does anyone know how the 9th grade did again Glen Oak?

Final from Canton,

VASJ 42
GlenOak 7

Bo Jackson with 3 TD’s tonight
Brian Kortovich with a TD
D’Angelo White with a TD
TJ Moore with a TD

Great showing from the defense keeping the Eagles at bay, and the offense showed their power against the Golden Eagles. Bo Jackson and Brian Kortovitch did what is expected of them to do. D’Angelo White, who is just a sophomore and is getting looks from D-I schools like Ohio State, Tennessee, Michigan, had some nice grabs including a 20 yard reception for a TD. Believing that is his first career varsity TD.

TJ Moore also showed some flashes in the run game and is showing signs of a good back to take some of the load off of Bo.

Johnny Vuraich, also showed his arm strength and awareness moving the ball down field. Even making back foot throws when needed to and helps as he plays baseball as well.

This is the first victory over an Ohio D-I team when the Vikings beat Shaker Heights in 2009. The last time before that was in 2003 against Euclid.

Next week, the Vikings host Cardinal Mooney next Friday at Gutbrod Field to kick off the home portion of the schedule.

The Vikings are looking a lot better and a bit more disciplined so far from what I can tell after two weeks. Bo Jackson looks a lot bigger and even faster this year and is the real deal. Cuddos to the Mooney defense for stacking the box upfront to contain, to their best abilities, but the Viking offense was too much to over come.

Vuraich showed his potential as a QB and senior captain, he has good arm strength to help push the ball but he still has some growing to do early on his reads and accuracy but will come. One thing I do appreciate from Johnny is that he isn't trying to bomb the ball, that hurt the Vikings the past two seasons, especially in that Ursuline region semi game.

They will have a lengthy bus ride again as the Vikes travel to Mansfield and get a chance to play at Arlin Field against the home town Tygers next Friday.

Best of luck the rest of the season to the Mooney faithful the rest of the season!

VASJ played well. It was refreshing to see a reduction in penalties. The defense played well and had constant pressure on the QB. Mooney did not have much sucess moving the ball until the subs went in. The offense goes as Bo goes. Bo is a man playing against boys. His combination of speed and power are tough to contain. Unlike in past season the Vikings appear to have solid lines on both sides of the ball. If the line continues to allow Bo to reach the second level of the defense the Vikings could be a really tough out. The QB is a leader - but his height seems to limit his accuracy. He is at his best when he rolls out and has a clean view of the defense (like Baker Mayfield). When in the pocket his throws seem a bit high and off target. If the Vikings can add a potent passing attack to that running game - the sky could be the limit.

Although we are just into week 3, the Vikings get the pleasure of hosting Mansfield, Hartley and Ursuline. The big one is the return of Benedictine on the schedule for 2025, hosted at Gutbrod. Weeks 1,2,9, and 10 still open.

I’m curious to see who is added on the schedule for next season?
