2024 Northern Lakes League....both divisions

AW playing Start. smh. Talk about preparing your team for a deep playoff run  (btw Avon has played Iggy, McKinley, and Glenville out of conference).

Watched Perrysburg vs. Clay and came away very unimpressed. Perrysburg has 14 juniors. That is an absolute joke for a school of that size and demographics. The Yellow Jackets are a very average DI and are 5-0.

To put things in perspective, I honestly believe DV Liberty Center would have a solid chance to win the NLL this year (either division). The Tiger's would struggle with Whitmer's athleticism and size but outside of that...

To be fair, what other teams are they going to get out of conference at this point that are in D1-D3?

.. that are also the prohibitive second place in their conference. With expansion, cows aren't as necessary as they used to be but still handy if you get the biggest. If Lima is "too far" or too risky, then Start is next best.

I don't disagree with IB but to be fair, Darby and SJJ were supposed to be teams that could prepare you for play-offs.

Some of those SE Michigan schools are dang good. I would play them before I would do a trip to Columbus.

Halfway through the season...

Anthony Wayne 5-0
Toledo Whitmer 4-1
Findlay 2-3
Holland Springfield 1-4
Sylvania Northview 0-5

Cardinal division
Napoleon 3-2
Oregon Clay 3-2
Bowling Green 3-2
Sylvania Southview 2-3
Fremont Ross 1-4

Week six games...
Buckeye
Perrysburg @ Sylvania Northview
Anthony Wayne vs. Toledo Whitmer
Findlay @ Holland Springfield

Cardinal
Napoleon @ Fremont Ross
Oregon Clay vs. Bowling Green

Non-league
Sylvania Southview vs. Toledo Scott

I think its Whitmers to lose. They played Central really tough and were a few unlucky bounces away from winning. Their win against Coffman doesnt seem to be as impressive 5 weeks in. But then again, the OCC is a really tough conference.

Perrysburg surprisingly has the most impressive out of conference win with the week one victory against St. Francis.

AW's first two out of conference wins were against winless teams. Granted both winless teams are in tough conferences, but the luster is taken off the wins nonetheless. And beating Start doesnt help anyone.

Perrysburg-49 Sylvania Northview-0
Toledo Whitmer-35 Anthony Wayne-21
Findlay-37 Holland Springfield-12
Napoleon-28 Fremont Ross-14
Oregon Clay-42 Bowling Green-20
Sylvania Southview-46 Toledo Scott-18

I can't wait for there to be a week with some decent looking games...or is this just going to be the blow-out conference until Week 10?

Shockingly, until week 10, Bowling Green/Southview and Northview/Springfield next week may be the most "competitive" game on the whole conference slate.

I would say Whitmer vs. Anthony Wayne is a pretty darn good game this week. Then Whitmer is at Perrysburg next week.

Whitmer playing AT Anthony Wayne and AT Perrysburg in back to back weeks will tell you everything you need to know about them.

So from what I've heard the City League wants this for a few reasons...

- Proximity and open dates. Less than 8 teams is still not the preferred way to go for these reasons exactly
- Good gates for home games. Unfortunately the intraconference games have extremely low attendance, signing up for 2 year "home and home" series are a terrific moneymaker for these cash strapped athletic programs.
- Easier to work with NLL in a joint venture to get officials. The TCL is struggling pretty hard to get crews

It's a shame the weather is going to be fairly terrible tonight from the looks of it. On the grass at AW it's going to be a complete mud bowl, should benefit AW quite a bit

Air should be taken out of the ball tonight. Will affect some gameplans and outcomes.
Crews are already discussing this. Balls are going to be checked in the pregame as usual and throughout to ensure no games are being played. Good catch there though, haha a lot of folks will try this

Yea, Helene is going to make a mess of tonights games.

You're probably right, and it's really hard to assess since they don't have any common opponents, but in a controlled environment, I don't think Whitmer would have much trouble with this year's General's squad just seeing both of them in person. Now, having this weather take the ball out of Ford's hands and that field down on Finzel, things could be interesting.

What's crazy is that they have a lot of kids in Junior High who play, who then either decide to play a different sport or not play at all. The 7th grade team has 70 kids this year. For comparison, BG's 7th grade team only has something like 25 kids this year.

You HAVE to recruit your building. Something is getting missed. 70 kids is absolutely amazing. If Perrysburg wants to compete at the state level DI they will need 30+ seniors every year which means a freshman class of 50+ because of attrition.

My son's class had something like 24 Seniors in 2022-23. Which seems like a lot these days.
Whitmer had 30+ seniors from 2009-2017. The 2012 group had 36. Whitmer always two platooned during that timeframe so kids got twice the reps as their counterparts at schools that did not two platoon.

The big Catholic schools kill everyone with talent for sure but their depth is the main propellent. Eds, Moeller, Xavier, Elder all have large numbers which helps them sustain a 16 game season, build depth, and truly two platoon. When a starter goes down, there is a kid at the ready who has gotten a ton of reps to plug in.

I did not see the AW Whitmer score coming. Yikes.

Whitmer loss was not due to Helene. The Panthers are sloppy and unsound while AW is the exact opposite.

Clay struggled to defeat BG that lost 41-7 to a team that will more than likely finish 4th or 5th in the NBC. Napoleon $chit the bed vs Ross. The weather last night was tailor made for the Wildcats. The Cardinal division is very weak.

Perrysburg #1 in Region 1. If they beat Whitmer next week, which they should, it will set up a really nice week 10 match-up.

Whitmer has 26 Seniors this year and 88 players on their roster. Whitmer, at least last year, had 879 boys compared to 649 for Perrysburg.

Perrysburg has 23 Seniors and 77 on the roster. So, I think Whitmer is the school/team that has pretty bad numbers for a school their size. Pburg's isn't great either, but Whitmer only has approx. 10% of the boys in their school going out for football. Pburg has almost 12%.

Also, I think Pburg will drop back to #2 after Mentor plays today and should win. They play a pretty bad River Rouge team.

Whitmer has zero excuse. Their oline is huge anchored by OSU commit Lowe and the transfer Nix (6’5 275) at the other tackle who is a D1 guy as well and cannot run the ball. The Panthers outgun every team on their schedule minus Central (and that is close).

They are simply not a very sound team at the moment.

As mentioned, AW is. The Panthers got their work cut out for next week as Perrysburg is a sound team as well (limited mistakes).
