2024 MLB General Chat

First dog to throw first pitch in a game.

And "poof" just like that it's gone! I have a REALLY hard time buying this from Ohtani. But I guess if he has "closure"???

Remember when the National League got rid of the DH because they wanted to get more "offense" into baseball? Today the NL has 2 players hitting over .300.

And your point is what? Averages are down, because:
- Hitters emphasizing hard contact over putting the ball in play = more K's
- Most games feature a series of pitching changes with guys throwing 97 out of the pen = more K's
- the balls are less lively this year

Certainly there is more offense with a DH hitting instead of a pitcher. There is no logic in your statement.

Any teams going to get 100 wins this season? All the division leaders are in the low 80s as of now.

Has anybody ever done that? Ohtani has a real good shot at making it happen. He's pretty amazing.
Never. Ohtani is the 6th in the 40/40 club, with Bonds, A-Rod, Acuna, Canseco, and (surprisingly) Alfonso Soriano,

No one has even done 50/30 before. If he gets 50/50 it would be something approaching Acuna's amazing 40/70 last year.

Its been studied and proven. Maybe turn off WLW and read something. Those 3 guys could hit any ball out of the park.
Listening to WLW all day/night for sports news/talk is equivalent to the empty calories of eating Twinkies for lunch and Doritos for dinner every day.

At some point MLB teams will look like soccer teams with the ads all over the uniforms. So disappointing, but once again the all mighty dollar rules.
NASCAR, too. Including driver speak, actions (takes an obvious chug of Mt. Dew).

Interesting, not too many have mentioned it, but the best divisional race is the NL West. Padres have closed to within 3.5 games of the Dodgers. I would not want to play San Diego in the playoffs...

Following up on this. Padres clinched their playoff spot last night, and are only 2 back of the Dodgers in the West.

Last night they were up on the Dodgers 4-2. Dodgers got 2 on with no outs in the 9th. Rojas grounds into a game-ending triple play with Ohtani on deck! Amazing ending.

Padres remain my favorite to win the NL. They are playing great ball the last month or so.

So here's a good baseball discussion topic that came up last night....

In the Reds/ Guardians game, 4 Guardians pitchers had combined to no hit the Reds through 6 innings. To open the 7th, it's 2-0 Guardians, Reds centerfielder TJ Friedl bunts to get on base. Many from Cleveland took issue with this? Thoughts?

It was a perfect game at the time … a combined one, but still. If the Reds were competing for something, then sure, bunt away during a close combined perfect game. But the Reds are eliminated and playing out the string. Swing the bat. I felt it was a pretty cheap move given it was a meaningless game for the Reds.

I asked so I guess I deserve this. And yes, it was a perfect game going. To me unless the score is 6-7 nothing or higher, all bets are off. Friedl hasn't bunted as much for hits this year due to leg injuries, but it's fully part of his arsenal. At only 2-0 with 9 outs to go, not an issue at all for me. I'm actually from the school that says you're not going to no hit us or get a perfect game on us, no matter the situation. Pulling the first and third basemen in for an possible bunt is a legitimate offensive weapon.

We agree!

I will never fault a player for trying to win. It was 2-0. It was the 7th inning. Friedl needed to get on base and he did what he needed to do. If it was 5-0 in the 9th, different story...

Nobody wants to get no hit under any circumstance. I’ve said for awhile that organization is filled with a bunch of weirdos that look down on the Reds and Cincinnati. This only proves it.

Well, last weekend. All 6 divisions are clinched, and the Orioles and Padres have clinched a Wildcard.

In the AL both Detroit and KC are 3 games ahead of the Twins and Seattle. All but clinched, magic number is one for both.

the only real drama is in the NL, where the Dbacks and Mets are 1 game ahead of Atlanta. The Mets and Braves will need to play that makeup doubleheader Monday thanks to the weather.

Not exactly how MLB had it drawn up.
