2024 Federal League

Mck missed a field goal on first drive
Cleveland Hts jumped up 13-0
McK came back 27?-13 scored last TD on first drive of 3rd qtr

so if people left in first quarter then yeah HTS up
people who stayed saw something different

They threw some, probably 6 times in two quarters, but after talking to a starters Dad, they held back some throws on purpose. Lots of eyes were looking on last night. The numbers that Iggy had was huge. Probably 50 + freshman, varsity around 95 kids.
Good thinking don’t want to much on film before week 1. Beat Central!

Yep. That’s pretty much it. They did ok.

Uniontown Lake last in the Fed? I don't think so! NC Hoover will be the class of the 2024 Federal League.
I know. Definitely aggressive but I see a down year for them. Outside of Mck, the Fed looks even. I was back and forth between Jackson being at the bottom.

I have not gotten to see much of Lake yet, but I’m not so sure they’ll finish last. I think their defense will keep them in most games. Offense will be different that’s for certain.

The varsity was a combination with the JV. The Ignatius varsity is around 77, with a crazy 21 sophomores.

Details on how both teams scored and how effective were both teams moving the ball?
Unfortunately, I didn't get there until the varsity was almost done. I didn't see either of Green's scoring plays. New Phila scored on a run on the last play of the half, and Green blocked the extra point.

After that there was a simulated Overtime where each team got a chance to start at the 20. The Quakers ran it to the 5 on the first play, got stuffed twice, and then threw a pass over the middle for a TD. Green got two first downs running the ball but lost a fumble on 3rd and goal on an option play.

Based on the little I saw; the Quaker offense seems to be much improved from a year ago.

When I left the scrimmage it was 14-0 Green and Green was putting in their 2nd string offense.
Did New Philadelphia score on Green's 1st or 2nd D?
Green ran the ball well. #20 is a solid running back...good on D too.
Their QB did well stepping up in the pocket.
Green needs to clean up their penalties.
Green's D didn't allow New Philadelphia to do much.
Green is bigger than usual and more numbers than usual. Antonio and one of the brothers didn't play.

20 is Evan Reed. He ran hard yesterday, looked a lot like Beyl did last season.

Martin said in an interview with Big Time Sports that he will likely miss the first few games. If he's back for the start of league play I think we'll do all right

Word on the street is Hoban and Jackson played to a 0-0 tie starters vs starters. Hoban scored twice in JV and then scored late to make it 21-0.
I could be wrong, but it looked to me to be mostly starters through the entire half that was played similar to a game - absent kick returns, kick rush, and QB runs/hits. Hoban was sloppy on early drives, and It was 0-0 into the second quarter, but scored 3 TDs in the latter part of the second quarter. After that it went to a 10-play format for several series where it was mostly or all non-starters and JV.

Here's my final record predictions for the Federal League this year.

McKinley 6-0 in conference; 8-2 overall
Jackson 4-2 in conference; 7-3 overall
Hoover 3-3 in conference; 6-4 overall
Green 3-3 in conference; 6-4 overall
Lake 2-4 in conference; 5-5 overall
Perry 2-4 in conference; 4-6 overall
GlenOak 1-5 in conference; 3-7 overall

You’re way off on Perry! Just curious why do you think McKinley will win the federal league?

Mck beat Perry 44-6 last year. Perry had one win last year over a team above 500. Perry was last in the fed last year. Tied in 5th is probably too good of a prediction for Perry. Who are they better than? Maybe GlenOak. Who else? No one

McKinley has the most talented roster easily. On paper they are the best Federal League team since the Perry teams made the state finals in 2015-2016. Does this mean they'll run the table in league play? Not necessarily, but that's the way to bet.

I have Perry winning 2 league games, which matches their total from the last 3 years combined, as well as pulling off a non-conference upset against either Harding or Fitch. The Panthers should be improved but the schedule is brutal.

McKinley coaching and play calling is nothing to write home about in week one. Talented roster but the physical attributes lacked getting my attention in a way that made me think this team is stacked before seeing them on TV.

I think its going to be a good game. I was torn on who to pick in this game. I wouldnt be surprised at all of either team winning.
Yea hopefully they finally beat them they are off 0-18 against hoover be nice if they can pull one out tonight.

Nothing against Warren but with all the talent that McKinley has this year we should have won bigger. I don’t understand what they were trying to do last night with the play calling. You don’t have to run the ball every single play. We have a quarterback with a cannon for an arm and he barely threw the ball last night. Things better change before we head to Avon next week or it will be ugly!!
