Any word on who will be coaching freshman football yet? I’m sure summer training will start soon, somebody has to be running the show.

Hopefully they take a different approach to try to retain players instead of making things as miserable as possible trying to run kids off. Having more kids should be a strength of any program.

I don’t believe they tried to run anyone off, the exact opposite in fact. They stopped caring about W/L record, and tried to get as many kids as much PT as possible.

Good to hear. I know that wasn't the case 20 or so years ago when a few of my buddies went thru playing football at Elder.

They do optional conditioning at practice now. Those who do not want to participate are free to sit in the shade and drink their water and check up on social media. They also will be doing popsicles after practice to retain more players.

I had heard Mohs is taking over, Currin will also be an Asst.

That's what I heard. I think Mohs is the freshman head coach and Candra the jv head coach? I think they had to hire a few new coaches to replace those that stepped down this year.

This is just dumb.

As a coach there's a difference between being hard and being an . You can coach kids hard and have high expectations without degrading kids or making things so difficult with the explicit goal of making kids quit. How does that improve your program?

I assume this is a joke, but I can’t really tell.

They were having a lot of trouble with attrition, particularly the ‘22 class (Ramsey, Hambleton,Harp), where a lot of kids quit after freshman yr. They clearly made a concerted effort with the class of ‘23 to get more kids PT with the hopes of improving retention.

The last 3 Frosh seasons have been terrible record wise but objectively the only weak class is the current Jrs (‘26). And even they showed a marked improvement on the JV Level.

That is good news to hear. Roughly how many they have coming out this year?

They should be at the very least decent. I have no clue however who the QB could possibly be? I can’t think of one from last year.

Whomever it is would only be starting for 1 yr on Varsity anyway. They probably wouldn’t even be the backup as a Jr, Andriacco is a legit QB behind Estep. I expect he’ll take over the WR/Wildcat QB role, but he throws a really nice ball.

Who do we is gonna have the best freshman class in the Gcl

Left at half. Elder up 14-0. Frosh look big and well coached. Ruth (Jude) is qb. Throws a nice ball and can run. Defensive front 7 look good. No outstanding running back. Ruth ran a lot of qb draws.

I Was at the scrimmage against Lakota West. Ruth looked very well running the ball and the freshman defense looked very strong.

Does Ruth have the size to potentially play RB? I know Trey will stroke out when I say this, but I feel pretty confident in Estep being at least a 2 yr starter.

Also, I’m not big into the rah rah stuff but both HCs at the lower levels seem to resonate well with the players. Perhaps being younger makes them more relatable.

No he could potentially play WR. He is probably around 6’0 but is very skinny.
