2024 Elder Football

Craig has been impressive running the ball in the JV scrimmage. He doesn’t have explosive speed but he makes really good cuts.

Very good. Calm in the pocket, throwing with accuracy into tight windows, also had a few long runs.

The only negative on him is his height.
He’s not taller than Roden? I think Roden will be a bigger help to the team at a position other than QB any way. If Estep doesn’t play QB he won’t see the field anywhere else. If Roden were to win the job would they play Estep down on JV? He could still dress for varsity as a backup for Roden.

As you know, just a scrimmage. Can't make too much out of it either way.
True. But I think the taking a knee thing is telling that the Highlanders aren't where they are hoping to be at this point.

I hate the expanded playoff, makes everything seem so rushed at the beginning of the season and those week 1 games have been way more sloppy than when they started a week later.

He’s listed 3 inches shorter than Roden. I know there’s more that goes on than what we see in the scrimmage but based on tonight, Estep was better.

I think Roden played a little bit of Defense as a Soph on Varsity a few yrs back. That said, he could be useful as a Wildcat QB. He’s a good athlete & has good mobility. He had some nice runs tonight

True. Overall, my opinion on Elder hasn’t changed drastically from last week. The front 7 is still very good, The RBs are a ?. I do feel more confident in the OL & QB.
I look forward to you posting (hopefully) another …“I was wrong about this team” weeks from now ;)

I hope I’m posting about being wrong about the run game but right about the Defense. Again, I know it’s just a scrimmage. But this is back to back weeks where they not only showed up to hit, they also tackled very well.

At the skill positions on Offense, they probably are better. The OL & especially DL are where the gaps were apparent
Agree. They have a few very good individual skill players but they are a long long way away everywhere else. I can think of more than a few kids who were really good a few years ago who just haven’t developed much in HS at OH. No clue why that is.

Roden never played defense on varsity.
