2024 ECC Football

Some thoughts around the league after tonight:

Justice Burnam is the real deal! Lights out tonight with 443 passing yards and 6 touchdowns. Although, the defense was arguably just as impressive limiting yards and keeping the shutout. **6 Total Touchdowns

Devan Nigam delivered again, with 3 touchdown passes. Big games coming up for Turpin, we are excited to see how the season unfolds for them.

Landon Young was clutch with over 100 yards and the game-sealing score. Lebanon was making passes but WC made stops when they needed them.

The irony of Milford scoring only 3 points tonight after last year's result. At this point all roads lead to Anderson vs. Winton Woods.

Looks like the coach at West Clermont has things at least headed in the right direction. Which begs the question, how and when is the AD gonna' step in and screw it up?

I think the numbers you attribute to Burnam are actually him and his backup combined. Fun note - The backup appears to be Griffin Scalf’s brother. I believe he owns a lot of records Burnam will probably be breaking.

I think Anderson could start anybody he would throw for 350 yards in there system.

Burnam had 6 Ted's total is what the post should have said. He threw for 4 and rushed for 2.

We think so, that community is ready for a football team that is relevant in the ECC. A statement win next week at Kings would be huge but then they have Milford and Turpin in back to back weeks. Looking at their schedule they have a shot at a 6-4 if they can get Kings.

Kings - I think Kings is the favorite by 2 touchdowns.
Milford - L
Turpin - L
Walnut - W
Winton Woods - L
Loveland - W
Little Miami W

You don't think they can give Turpin a game? Could be close if they keep playing like this

If LM doesn't beat Walnut this Friday, we very well could have three winless teams in R4, and only two are supposed to NOT make the playoffs. The loser of Sycamor/Colerain probably loses out and Western Hills looks especially weak, even with a schedule full of D3s and D4s.

West High should be favorites against Woodward at least

Anderson has definitely moved in the right direction but lets be honest who have they played? After the last couple productive years, I would've thought they would've scheduled a powerhouse first game of the season.

Said for years that Highlands (KY) - Anderson would be a great rivalry right across the river from one another, and a good test to open the season. Anderson would rather have an undefeated record against cupcakes though.

To an extent.....but, Anderson only has one non league game. That North Oldham game to open the season was a head scratcher. I too have wondered why Anderson and Highlands have never got together, but Highlands doesn't come across the river very often.

What's the upside to that? They'll be tested in the ECC with WW, Turpin, Kings, and Milford. That is already a gauntlet. Scheduling a powerhouse out of the gate only seems like a chance to get kids injured early and derail a promising season for a team that can make a deep run.
Risk vs. Reward

Out of curiosity, who would be the matchup you'd like to see most?

Last time, to my knowledge, Highlands crossed the river they got beat by the D3-4 Catholic school a mile from Anderson on Beechmont Ave. To my knowledge that’s the last time the Bluebirds played in Ohio.

Kings 28 West Clermont 10. Watched 3 out of 4 Kings games and they’re still committing a lot of untimely penalties and turnovers. Also best offensive lineman (NC State commit) on the sideline in a sling 😣.

Recap: Walnut Hills vs. Little Miami

Sandhar was the QB for LM for the entire game. LM also made a change at RB as junior Peyton Blackburn, listed as a WR on their roster, played half the snaps at RB. The LM offense scored on their first drive, aided by a personal foul penalty on Walnut safety Dashaun Hoskins who tackled a ball carrier after the play was blown dead. Sandhar completed a 24-yard pass to Cody Neltner for the former's first career passing TD and it was 7-0. After a Walnut three-and-out, Neltner blocked the Walnut punt, which set up a 2-yard rushing touchdown for Walker Brewsaugh a few plays later. LM kicker Gunnar Hoffman's extra point was blocked by Walnut LB Xander Hargis and it was 13-0. After a couple punts, an LM turnover on downs, and a lot more penalties, Walnut got the ball with 4 minutes left in the half. Although they used the entire rest of the 1st half clock, Walnut finally punched it in with a 6-yard touchdown from QB Will Rivers to finally-back-from-injury Ty Austin. Neltner blocked the Walnut extra point and the score was 13-6 into the break.

Walnut's first drive of the second half stalled out after a 44-yard touchdown from Rivers to Austin was negated by a holding penalty on sophomore guard Eric Johnson. LM went three-and-out, and Walnut got the ball at the LM 23 after an unsportsmanlike penalty was called on Neltner. That drive would end on a Rivers INT on third and long, which was caused by Austin as he tipped a not-meant-for-him pass into the waiting arms of LM cornerback Isaiah James. The teams traded punts again before the LM running game woke up and led them down the field, with Sandhar completing a 13-yard touchdown pass to Neltner and it was 20-6. Rivers threw a pick on the next drive to LM LB Landyn McCray and it was looking over. The Walnut defense managed a 3-and-out, aided by a holding penalty on LM, which gave Walnut the ball at their own 12 with just over 4 minutes left. Walnut struck gold almost instantly, however, as on the second play of the drive Rivers found Austin on a deep post, who broke the tackle of the poor linebacker matched up on him and took it to the house for an 88-yard touchdown. Rivers found Austin again on the 2-point try to make the score 20-14. The Walnut defense came through with another 3-and-out after the Walnut onside kick try failed badly, and Walnut got the ball back at their own 20 with just under 2 minutes to go. Walnut converted 3rd-and-5, 3rd-and-18, and 4th-and-2 on the drive to get down to the LM 9, but with 10 seconds left Rivers threw it to Austin, who by virtue of being lined up as a wing rather than on the outside like he was all night, couldn't get out of bounds before Neltner tackled him to end the game at the Little Miami 2.

Final: Little Miami 20, Walnut Hills 14. Walnut was whistled for (by my count) 13 penalties, and the final play of the game was the only time in the entire 2nd half they went out of their 4-WR spread look. The diverse formations were an interesting wrinkle to start the year, but the lack of play variety out of everything but spread means they've gotten stale. Assuming Walnut now loses out to finish 1-9, they'll make the playoffs if Western Hills keeps sucking and either Sycamore or Colerain goes 0-10.

It will be Sycamore at 0-10. Colerain is going to blow them out when they play next week.

Great recap! I left the stadium with LM leading by 14 with 5 mins left. Got to my car heard it was 20-14 drove around the back of the stadium and watched the finish outside the fence. Amazing finish, I was ok kinda pulling for Walnut that last drive. I sat on the Walnut side and was wondering if you were there! Next time I'll buy you a coke!

Shoutout to the Milford Eagles for keeping the "Victory Bell" out of Loveland's hands the ninth straight time.

Milford's team looked as slow as a turtle in molasses for the first half and had some weird moments like letting a safety happen in the fourth quarter, but they were able to grind it out when it mattered last Friday.

Again, I understand that this team is not on the same level as the 2023 squad, but dang are they fun to watch when things get rolling.

Bring on WC!

I was at the back of the Walnut section calling the game into my phone. The two guys in front of me (I think Walnut fans) both left instantly after Rivers' 2nd INT.

If one was wearing a red shirt that was me. Walnut was one yard short of one of the craziest comebacks I've ever seen!

Looks like another horrid season for the Loveland Tigers.

Winton Woods beats Walnut 52-0. WW blocked 3 punts in the first half, two for TDs, the other set the offense up at the WH 8. Josiah Jones was the starting WW QB, followed by Brown after a couple drives. The game ended on a 37-yard pass from Rivers to Austin that the latter fumbled while fighting to get to the goal line.

I saw where West Clermont put up 48 on Milford tonight. 400 plus yards on offense and only attempted 4 passes. What kind of offense is WC running? Triple Option? Looks like their QB rushed for almost 175 yds and another kid went for 200. Milford may not be as strong as they were last year, but they haven't been giving up very many points. Who saw this one coming?

Who saw this one coming?

I certainly didn't. It was a close game in the first half where Milford kept coughing up the ball on offense and letting WC have great field position to score with.

Then halftime hit and the Eagles just collapsed entirely. Couldn't score any more and couldn't stop a nosebleed. It was like watching a boxer get socked in the jaw in just the right way in an early round and get rattled for the rest of the fight. Very disheartening.

Congrats to West Clermont, though. They earned the win.

Is West Clermont running an option attack on offense. Is the QB under center, or shotgun.
