2024 Cincinnati Bengals

Did Katie tell the marketing department who they lined up to be Ruler of the Jungle at the next home game? Will it be an orange out? White out? Black out? Did Duke Tobin buy one pizza for the scouting department this week since they only have five people? Could Marisa Contipelli join the scouting department in addition to being team reporter/game host?

All of this is dispiriting and sarcastic jokes is all I've got at this point. And to those saying "how long til baseball season?" Baseball effing sucks, so I've got nothing. Crosstown Shootout?

Perhaps after 5 straight slow starts to the season, maybe just maybe they'll make the starters play more than one half of pre-season football? Ahh who am I kidding. Next year will be more of the same.
Nothing will change.

The media will make it sound like the 2025 draft is the greatest ever and the company line will be followed.

It doesnt get any better either, DJ Turner is likely out for the season with a fractured clavicle. Tough loss, made some really nice plays last night. Bengals active corners include Cam Taylor-Britt, Josh Newton, DJ Ivey, and Mike Hilton.

Offense/ Special Teams 2021-2023 Draft Picks (2024 Too Early to Tell, in my opinion)

Ja'Marr Chase- One of the best in the NFL, might win Triple Crown this year

Jackson Carman- Reached and failed, backup now in Miami

D'Ante Smith- Who? Has played 56 total snaps, most of those in the glorified preseason game when we rested our starters last game of '21 against Cleveland. Practically been inactive since '22.

Evan McPherson- Was very solid and now sucks, he's just Mac now. He needs some competition to light a fire underneath him. We'll never forget his 2021 run.

Trey Hill- Who? Has played in 1 game this year, 3 ST snaps

Chris Evans- Kinda of a who? IR this year, showed some flashes his rookie year, dealt with injuries, has had 6 touches since '21.

Cordell Volson- Was Ok up until this year. According to Gridiron Grading on Twitter/X, Of 77 qualified NFL Gs through 11 weeks, Volson ranks 77/77 in pressures allowed with 33.

Charlie Jones- Again, has showed flashes as a return guy with a Punt and Kick return for a TD but can't stay on the field. Hasn't shown much at all as a receiver, and he's already 26.

Chase Brown- I like this kid, he's got great burst and can break one. Wonder what he could do behind a better run blocking O-Line. Overall, looks like a solid pick as a Mixon replacement.

Andrei Iosivas- Solid WR 3/4 About what you'd expect from a 6th round pick. Very good red zone reciever. Wish he'd be another Housh but oh well.

Brad Robbins- One of the worst punters of the league. Probably won't see him again. Hope we have our punter of the future in Rehkow.

The $64,000 question to me is why does this team have so many injuries? It gets beyond bad luck at some point.

Do the players not want to be in Cincy? (it's a great city but the team ownership's frugality and the fact the city isn't Miami; it's a smaller city, part Southern, part Midwestern.....it doesn't seem to hurt Kansas City but the Hunts aren't Mike Brown or Katie B.)

Are the team trainers/physical conditioning guiiis also on the Mike Brown Great Value plan?

Zac running too soft of a progrum?

Paycor Stadium turf?

Is it a lack of tuffness?

Would Mike Vrabel be a Forrest Gregg 1981 part deux with this team?

When the Bengals win it's glorious. Life is great. You want to tune in. You even want to listen to Bengals Line on WLW.

Right now it sucks.

For my Bengals fix it's old YouTube videos of Bengals games for me and they're out there to enjoy.

Erick All, Jr., was playing well at TE before blowing out his knee....again. Which is why he dropped in the draft.

The Bengals make a big deal about Cam Sample's blocking at TE. OK, then why not use him more in the red zone?
Because he is not a good receiver. TE's that can box out and catch a football at the goal line are a valuable asset.

I doubt the Bengals have any more injuries than any other team. Mack did not play for the Chargers last night and had more several players get injured last night.

Jenkins and Jackson are showing some promise but they definitely need an established starter to supplement those two. Otherwise pretty spot on

Tell me I'm wrong. Corleone at UC screams Bengals 2025 draft pick.

And Sheldon Rankins......he was signed really based off a game vs the Bengals in 2023 as a Houston Texan where he tore up the interior of the Bengals OL. Like every other competent defensive lineman does.

Chiefs won the SB last year with I don't know who at receiver. Chiefs value interior lineman, Thuney, Smith, Humphrey, Bengals do not. Bengals just do not know how to build a football team. That and some bad position coaches esp. Pollack.

Haven't drafted a Bearcat since Kevin Huber in '09. We have almost a vendetta against drafting UC players for some reason. Seems like half of them get drafted by the Browns. I'm not a guy who drafts players just because they went to a local school. HoweverI wouldn't mind it. He's got freakish traits, and I want those types of guys.

This stat is telling right here that I found on Twitter/X:

From 2021 to 2023 the Bengals were 30-4 when they scored 23+ Points.

In 2024 the Bengals are 2-5 scoring 23+ points.

Defense wins championships.
I found this stat interesting and depressing at the same time

It just seems like we constantly are injured. I do think this squad is too finesse and not "tuff" enough in an AFC North style.

This might even be worse:

None of these teams won the Super Bowl, however all of them except one (‘15 Patriots, who went 12-4 btw) were the #1 seed and two of them lost in the Super Bowl ( ‘07 Patriots and ‘20 Chiefs, ‘11 Packers went 1 and done in the divisional round losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants)

But the Bengals have glass eater Pollack as line coach. Looking at PFF scores (FWIW) only one Bengal o-lineman has a score above 60 - Orlando Brown (Lions by contrast have no lineman below 60, 3 above 80). Part of it is game plan if you have a bad defense run the football more shorten the game. Then again when you have a bad o-line it is hard to run the football, without Burrow the Bengals would be like the Jaguars, Panthers. Maybe it is not the year of the cat, though the Lions are doing good.

There is a direct correlation between Burrows stats and wins. Bengals are 0-5 in Burrow's highest passing yardage games

I think it tells us the Bengals are behind or in a shootout quite often this season.

One other telling thing regarding Sunday Night loss to the Chargers: 2 FG’s in the first half & 2 missed FG’s in the 4th qrt. The two makes were from 26 & 27 yards so that means drives are stalling inside the 10. A average to below run game shows itself inside the red zone & trying to close out games late in the 4th qrt.

Burrow covers up so many shortcomings but slinging it around 40+ times and winning is a difficult task. The Bengals definitely have some issues but to suggest Burrow is one of them is complete stupidity.

I've said repeatedly I like Burrow. But riddle me how many game winning drives he's had? He is getting pounded though and he's not going to stay healthy. But, I've watched him make to many bad reads late in games.

It’s not that difficult of a riddle, simply use the Pro Football Reference site you posted yesterday. Burrow has:
* 5 forth quarter comeback drives in the regular season
* 7 forth quarter game winning drives in the regular season
* 2 forth quarter game winning drives in the post season
**** Burrow has not had one since the end of the 2022 regular season vs KC, a 27-24 Bengal w.

Former Steeler qb Kenny Picket has 6 forth quarter comeback drives & 7 forth quarter game winning drives in the regular season in half the starts (25 games) compared to Burrow. Is this an indication that Pickett does a better job of making correct reads in the 4th quarter?

Just what reads in late games have you noticed Burrow incorrectly making? Please give us 2 or 3 examples with the down & distance, what type defense the opposition in, the offensive set/package and what Burrow did compared to what he should have done based on your expert opinion.

FWIW I was at the AFC championship game in Arrowhead(2023). Every person in that stadium thought when the Bengals got the ball back in the fourth quarter with 3 or so to go that the game was over. Burrow is going to direct this team to the win. I'm saying both groups of fans. Obviously didn't happen.
That above text answers that question. Two chances on Sunday night to do better than 50yd field goals. The kid is great, he's not Mahomes.
