2024 Cincinnati Bengals

Zac Taylor is now 3-14-1 in games played through week 3…3-14-1.

It’s a long season when you play into the postseason, but you have to be able to get there first for it to matter. It’s going to be a massive uphill climb the rest of the way after another year of starting slow due to not being bothered with even just going through the motions in the preseason.

It was pretty boring.
Lots of scoring. You’ve got the best quarterback in the league. He’s been a favorite of mine since high school. I’m never gonna root for the Bungles., but I hope he doesn’t have to wait till his contract is over and leave to get the team he deserves. Maybe I mean the owner he deserves. Bernie Kosar might’ve got screwed by being a home-boy too. I hope Joe does better.

Therein lies the problem.

They can’t keep putting themselves in position to be screwed by the referees. The defense can’t stop this “good college offense” that is why they are going to lose! They didn’t get Washington off the field one time without them scoring points, that’s just pathetic!
I won’t argue that! Two years in a row now we have a bad defense. But I still get tired of being
Screwed over by the refs. It happens too often to the Bengals.

Part of this goes to the lack of continuity through the new NFLPA’s fake preseason era - contrast KC - but yeah

It’s almost like I can hear a metal trashcan, banging curveball…. But there is no one in the woods that wants to hear about it later, because you’re in a small cable market…

I’m all over the place. Time to go to bed, but yeah, right ?

Somehow, a team that employs Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson is in the running for worst team in the league.

Of course, the “somehow” is Zac Taylor and especially Duke Tobin. The drafting has been awful. The extensions have been awful: Hubbard, Pratt, Wilson. Meanwhile, they let most of their best defenders leave (Ogunjobi, Bates, Reader) or watched them decline after injury before moving on (Awuzie).

This calls for a total house cleaning this offseason of Tobin, Taylor and the rest of the coaching staff. But it’ll never happen in the little family-run business down on Mehring Way.

Eh I’m not sure about that. McLaurin’s 2 big plays (almost 3, when Stone slipped and Daniels overthrew him) just came from running past the Bengals DBs. It could have been anyone with half decent speed on those 3 plays. I like him and he’s quite good, but Chase is much better.

I will disagree give Mclauren - Burrow vs what he has had at QB the last 5 years. Plus, you don't have to put up with the drama.
Amazes me though that KC - Buffalo are both 3 - 0 and neither has a top-notch receiver. Chiefs do have Kelce, but he has not done much of anything yet. In fact, both teams got rid of their prima donna receivers.

Well, the Chiefs have a defense and the Bills have Joe Brady. The Bengals are SORELY LACKING in those particular areas.

Terry Mclauren > Chase. Both great receivers but one is not a prima donna.

McLauren is a good NFL wr but he isn’t anywhere near as good as Chase. Virtually all wr’s are prima donna’s, if McLauren was as good or better than Chase whose to say he wouldn’t be more difficult?

The Bengals have a top 5 qb in Burrow who on any given Sunday is the best in the NFL. Help him be great but just as important, don’t make it more difficult for him to be great (don’t F it up). To me the problems with the Bengals is this.
* Burrow’s two most important teammates are his OT’s. Bengals can’t sign a good OT free agent nor can they seem to draft & develop the right OT
* Burrows two most playmaking teammates Chase & Higgins are disgruntled in regards to their contract situation. Do you think either gets up for work in the mornings as a happy camper? This unhappiness carries over into their productivity of their job.

Hey, 99% of us would love to have Higgins one year, $21.8 mil guaranteed deal but none of us can play wr at the NFL level. Actually I believe Higgins has handled the situation pretty professionally and if I were the Bengals I wouldn’t sign him to an extension either but Chase, they need to resign.

If anyone can right the ship, its Burrrow.

I will not abide any disrespect towards Terry McLaurin. And spell his name correctly. He was a rock solid Buckeye and is a great young man. He works hard, shuts his mouth, and has put up 4 straight 1000 yard seasons with a parade of garbage playing QB in Washington. He is the Nick Chubb of wide receivers.

I will take Mclaurin you can have Chase and his distractions. Chase and his mouth would never go over with Andy Reid. I do hope Chase has a great year, but he needs to keep his mouth shut. As for Burrow yes, he is great but great QB's don't need prima donna receivers to succeed, does Mahomes have Hill, or Allen have Diggs. winning in the NFL is still about oline, defense and a good QB not prima donna receivers.

Edit: There is a salary cap and you have to prioritize your spending, can't pay chase 40 mill., Burrow 40 - 50 mill. and still keep Trey H. plus sign a solid DT and good OT's. I would rather keep Trey H. get a really good DT. and a solid o - line than keep Chase.

The Bengals made their bed when they chose Chase over Lions OT Penei Sewell in the 2021 draft.

The Bengals have proven their choices of free agent OT’s has been poor at best and their drafting & developing of OT’s is equally poor. I don’t know what to tell you about that, guess they have to keep on trying something until they get it right.

It’s going to fall on Burrow’s shoulders to right the ship. He can do it but starting out 0-3 and now starting a rookie RT probably means the Bengals would have to go to Buffalo and/or KC if they make the playoffs. They/Burrow has done it before but it’s tough.

Very much disagree with this. Has it been great? No. But poor at best is overly critical.

Collin’s didn’t get healthy, but was a good gamble to take. Riley Reiff was serviceable and paid as such. Orlando Brown Jr has been very good so far. Trent Brown was okay for his 2.25 games before likely tearing some ligament last night and also only paid $4.8m.

Jonah Williams didn’t live up to top 10 expectations but certainly wasn’t bad. He was average. Mims gave up a sack and a penalty but IMO the offense looked better with him out there than Brown. Obviously too early to tell on him though.

Pathetic. I like Hubbard but he should have been a back up/jettisoned after 2022.

Bengals EDGE Sam Hubbard was 6.22 yards away from Jayden Daniels, on average, on passes tonight.

This ranked #127/128 DL charted by NGS in Week 3’s Game Center.

Incredible stat considering Daniels held the ball for 3.13 seconds per pass.

Too many problems to count on this DL.

I ain't ready to jump off a bridge just yet.....Washington played a damn near perfect game....We still got three months and 14 games to get straight....Now if Andy Dalton and the Carolina Crushers light us up next Sunday, I might have to reassess things.....Does Great American Tower have an observation deck?

That is a concerning stat. Maybe his job/the game plan was to contain Daniels in the pocket but holding the ball 3.13 seconds per attempt is almost a full second longer than most qb’s.

Bengals D was horrible Monday night, no other way to describe it. Burrow can overcome a lot of things but playing defense isn’t one of them.

Why does that matter?

Otherwise ..... Anarumo's stock has fallen faster than Joe Biden on the steps to Air Force One. Burrow and his peacock receivers better put up 36 a game or they won't win six games.

Don’t really understand the knock on Lou A. He isn’t the one responsible for fielding the talent. There’s only so much a coach can do.

True I suppose, and after 21/22 he was considered a H.C. candidate. Against KC the defense was good held Mahomes to 150 yds. but MNF the D was atrocious. Personally think the Bengals (including LA) completely underestimated Daniels which a coach should never do. A team is going to lose players to FA and to injuries but the drafting on the defensive side of the football has been really bad. Don't know how much input Lou A. has on what players that are drafted but being the DC I would think some if not a lot.
