2024-2025 St. Ignatius hockey

As of now it looks like here will be three co-favorites for the state title: Ignatius, TSF, and Upper Arlington. Upper Arlington and Ignatius have split a two-game series, each side winning 2-1.

Iggy is the favorite for a reason.
TSF
UA
SC
Eds
New Albany
Liberty
US
Gilmour

I would probably rank them in that order of chances to win state. Iggy is favorite but the separation isnt much.

Ya I agree. I still think the Cats can improve the most out of the big three. SFS, our Cats and UA are the favorites. I wouldn't count out Liberty though. I don't know anything about SC.

Go Cats!

Pretty crazy how quickly Columbus has become competitive. Complete non-factor at the state level 5 years ago.
Completely agree!(y)

I think TSF, SI, SE are better than each team in the Columbus Region, but as a whole, they are more competitive than the other three regions (Brooklyn, BGSU, Kent).

The fact that there is 4-5 solid teams in the Columbus Region will make it very exciting hockey to watch earlier in the Regional Tournament, compared to the other regions where the real action starts in the semifinals or Regional Championship.

(Sorry to reply to my own post )

Brooklyn - Clearly the only contenders are SI & SE
Columbus - UA, OL, SC, DJ, Berlin, NA
Kent - GA, US, WJ
BGSU - TSF & NV

Didn't play very well tonight vs Padua. Lots of shots and picks possession, not much scoring.

Senior night yet no Elwell. Resting him for the next two I guess. No Bleick. Miyoshi is back but he is not in game shape yet.

Forwards playing D and vice versa. Lines all over the place. This was treated more like a scrimmage.

I think this was a game to get the 3rd & 4th line guys some time and to have the seniors go out on a high note.

Side note here, I do like the fact that they are scheduling some more local teams (WJ & Padua) this year.

Good to get some local rivalries going again.

Cats played a lot of kids from the white team tonight and won in OT. Not sure why no Elwell. They'll need him in the playoffs.

Played frosh Galluci who scored two goals. Cabanes, Mihavlic, Jalics, Roche. No Elwell, Miller, Marziani. Forsythe at D. Ignacio at C. Not sure what they're doing. Glad they won. In Coach O I trust. 😁

Guessing to get a look at some guys for system depth.

Idk anything other than what I hear from my kids at 2 different Eastside high schools but Norovirus has been all over the place. That's just reckless speculation on my part.

Just shows the depth of the program. Most interesting scores of the weekend were UA losing 4-0 to Liberty and New Albany beating Walsh 3-0. US vs St Charles was 2-0 for US the whole game and they gave up 2 with about 4 minutes left and had a goal waived off with 2 min left. Ended 2-2. US gets Northview today.

MAXPREPs does not like Iggy or SFDS but it is wrong. MHR is much more accurate on how Ohio stacks up heading into the postseason. MAXPREPS is used for seeding this year.

Still will come down to Iggy vs Ed's, Gilmour vs US, Liberty vs UA, and Northview vs SFDS

It took forever, but at least some change is coming to the district tournaments.

It's not ideal, but its way better than what we have been seeing.

As for MaxPreps, some of the rankings are puzzling.

Avon Lake & Westlake over Padua???...No Way

CVCA over Gilmour???...No Way

Roosevelt over Shaker???...No Way

CVCA guy here.

MaxPreps is drunk. The Royals are a good White Division team.

Myhockeyrankings.com has them 31st, which is probably about right. The #16 ranking in MaxPreps is laughable. Way too much weighting on W-L record and not nearly enough on SOS.

Walsh plays Liberty soon so that will be interesting result to see if Walsh can hang. New Albany is a sleeper team to watch. Lost 5-4 OT to Liberty and then cruised to a 3-1 win over UA. Columbus District will be a streetfight

Ya in Ohio hockey record means very little. Look at who the top teams play and then look at who teams with few losses play. It's apples and oranges. Everyone knows the top teams and they are fairly accurately depicted in MHR.

7 of the 9 losses have been to out-of-state teams. The two Ohio losses were both in overtime, and one they avenged.
