My comment about St Ed’s already having a sports program of that type wasn’t in reference to the football team.

What’s the most high profile games St Ed’s has ever played vs national powers ??

st joe (philly)
Don bosco (NJ)
Springdale (ark)
Chimande Madonna (Florida)
Bergen catholic (NJ)
St Joe regional
Cherry creek (Colorado)

personally I’d love to see Bishop Gorman outta Las Vegas once.

the big NJ Catholics are always a tough game.

we all know the ultimate goal for the program is one of those “mythical National titles” only way to get those is to have a crazy schedule and a few power outta state schools and win your state a few yrs in a row. That being said why not take a chance a big Texas school or cali school for once.
Not sure if he's still at St Ed's, but didn't Hickman work at Bishop Gorman and Mater Dei? I know logistics are tough, but Vegas to Hawaii compared to Vegas to Cleveland is a longer flight. But I think the Eagles schedule is already brutal. Would be fun to see them play.

I sat with a St. Eds guy at the state game he told me the junior class at Eds was flat out loaded and best class they have has in a while. Said there was a few jv players that could make a impact on varsity but they didnt need them yet. Any truth to that?

I mean all the big Olinemen , qb, wr, lbs we’re all under classmen. This team will have 4-5 div 1 guys next year and they all have experience.

I feel like the Ed dynasty is not getting the same publicity as Ignatius did. I realize it's a different time but it seems that way.

Or maybe it's just me.

We got more attention for a couple of reasons…

1. Never had been a D-I state title team from Cleveland before ‘88. 2. The local media today (especially the PD) is a small fraction what it was is in the 80’s/90’s. 3. High school sports aren’t a spectator attraction they once were. Recall 1997 Ignatius/McK…regular season (Ragone, Bentley, Doss, Peterson) at Fawcett…24,000 sellout. Might have sold 10k more.

We have a national presence that the Ignatius dynasty didn't because of social media, Eds is "seen" on a national level. Kids that play in Florida/Georgia/California see Eds on video immediately. But CatAlum is right, the 80s-90s were a better time to be the team in Greater Cleveland. Everyone then knew who Ignatius was, today you really only hear about Eds from the hardcore high school football fans. The whole high school football thing is easily dismissed.

It's the decline of football in general, which has both valid and invalid reasons for happening (a story for another day). National programs (Bishop Gorman being the best example) are the thing now. I don't think Eds wants to be that, and I would discourage them from becoming one. However, knowing they could if they wanted to makes me smile.

The best news out of the "dynasty" is that St. Edward continues to be a great school for young men. It's getting better not only in football, but in everything else that actually matters.

The 07 St X team had to have been the best team I can remember, pretty sure they claimed the natty that year and played St Thomas Aquinas Absolutely spanked the eagles 45-0. They were loaded all over the place.
I actually think the 05' Colerain team was the best team Ohio has ever had. They do not get enough credit.

If St. Edward goes undefeated in 2023, they will be a consensus national top 3-5 team.

Long way to go, and by no means easy, but they have all the prerequisites.

Being undefeated is the only way the eagles get close to a top 1 ranking , even most of the heavy hitters had a loss in the final top 10, with the schedule , div 1 talent and looking at a three peat there’s no reason this team couldn’t finish up there completely agree.

End of the day beating Ignatius and hanging another state title banner is the goal but that far fetched goal of a national championship regardless of who would rank us there would be a hell of a cherry on top for this program.

Merry Christmas to my favorite Holy Cross HS Football team!

On Christmas, morning coffee always tastes amazing in the morning when you're a state champ!
Merry Christmas to all Ed's followers. I admire your team's program from afar (I'm in the akron area). What are your plans to replace your 2 defensive studs?

From what I have seen on the hardcourt this year, Brian Sullivan could be a factor at WR in 2023. Any chance the staff could convince BB player Wendell Henry to play football in 2023? Given his athletic ability, he could be a terrific DE.

Go Eagles!

Well, Sullivan was a starter this year. Didn’t really see many targets as Mason and Lentz-Pieffer were the go-to guys. With LP graduating, Sullivan should see a larger share. Athleticism is there. Needs work on the nuances of the position and route running.

Are these guys actually OSU caliber or are they just guys OSU has to settle for due to not hitting on any out of state guys?
