2023 Southwestern Buckeye League

I think Edgewood loses pretty bad to withrow. I think Bellbrook wins by 2 scores. Eaton loses by a lot to McNicholas. I think Carlisle keeps it close in the first half if they can keep the ball away from Waynesvilles offense, but i think Waynesvilles offense will be to much for Carlisle in second half. Brookville beats Miami east by 4 scores or more. I think Madison will keep it close but I will take Zane Trace. If VV took care of the problems in the secondary this week in practice, I think they win by multiple scores.
Same thought here bro I think Carlisle comes out strong in the first half but Waynesville runs away with it easily in the second half. I'll take the Spartans 49-14

I dont think Carlisles clock running offense will allow Waynesville to score 49. Waynesville will take the win, but not by 35.

I expect to see Waynesville have quite a bit of playoff success this season. A potential rematch of Brookville won't be easy, and then potentially VV, but Waynesville has the ability to win R20.

One thing I noticed on Drew Pasteur's site, he has Waynesville as the #15 team in DV. VV is #6. But Brookville is #14. Just kind of looks off knowing Waynesville beat both of them.
I agree waynesville should be ranked higher, but look at the teams they have beat vs the teams that Valley View has beat.

I was not super impressed with Wilmington in the preseason but that was a long time ago. I know they were thin couldn't have had more than 40 kids, but the Massie score tells me they're better than I think. I still think Bellbrook wins by a couple of scores. Outside of Badin, they were the best team from region 12 I saw in person this year.
The BB fans ought to watch the 1st half of the Massie/Wilmington game. (Its on youtube) Wilmington's defense (especially their line) is legit. Very big and capable. If Bellbrook is very run heavy, they may be in for a longer night than they want. That is the only defense that has really slowed down Massie's run this year. It wasn't as uncomfortable as the score suggests but Wilmington came out for that Rivalry game. I would take the points (+21) with Wilmington's defense. I expect it to be closer unless Wilmington shoots itself early with penalties

This game will be a close one. The pre/post Massie games for the Wilmington are not on par with what BB has faced throughout the year. Yeap, a Wing-T is heavy run but varies in the attack style than the wishbone in your face that Massie brings. With that, Massie attacked the Hurricanes 8 in the box all night, then when Massie needed to pass, there were holes big enough to park a diesel pusher and start a camp fire. Massie is the cats meow for their region and possibly DIV state finalist but Wing-T versus Wishbone are two different strategies and both Massie and BB are good at what they do in their schemes.. Again, not doubting you but BB has some intangibles that Massie may not have brought to the table. One is a 1300 yard passing QB with space receivers and then speed on the edges, not a total A/B/C gap offense. I see Massie as a want to kick your arse while BB can finesse you into kicking your arse and you didn't know it happened. Granted the WHS no huddle, pace of the game and speed of the skills can be an issue but their, VERY BIG, offensive line rarely reaches the second level and the skills kids make a lot of YAC. Again, don't get me wrong, I like Wilmington but I think the Eagles have the edge in this one. It should be a good game and the reward for the winner...Badin, that's a whole different story.

Good analysis. I'll tell you that Bellbrook's QB is big...6'3", 210lbs, he can move and he can throw on the run if he's forced to. Give him time in the pocket and he's highly accurate (he's also a 1st team all-area pitcher). If this wasn't a run dominant offense he would have put up much bigger numbers. The offense has six legit pass catching threats that all run good routes, and more importantly the WRs block on the outside. Carries are more evenly spread out this year than in years past...and they have a kid that has primarily played defense that is a beast carrying the ball that I would not be surprised to see him get more touches in the post season. My point in all of this is in the last 3-4 years (before this year) defenses could scheme this offense much easier, it was mostly one dimensional with the focus of getting the ball into 2-3 players hands and this year it's expanded to 7-10 guys (I'm talking quality touches, not mop up time stuff). It would not surprise me one bit if Bellbrook came out in a gun/empty formation to start this game as opposed to the Wing-T. They'll also run a jumbo set for a series if need be, hurry-up, etc. This offense has been morphing/transforming all season...and they may ultimately run the same wing-t type plays for a lot of it, but from a different look that'll have the defense second guessing or out of place.

The achilles...as good as this defense is they're prone to giving up the big play...it's what did them in against Valley View and Miamisburg. Guys getting overzealous, not staying in their gaps or overcommitting. There's also been a number of times where on 3rd and long they've given up easy yards (IMO) for a 1st down...and I'll be damned if I can figure it out, but plenty of times where it's 3rd or 4th and short and the DBs are giving a larger cushion than yards needed rather than pressing. The Bellbrook LBs will have to be committed to their assignments and tackle well to avoid the YAC that I've seen and as you've pointed out.

Monroe head coach Bob Mullins informed the kids yesterday that we was resigning for personal reasons.
Wow that's surprising! Wish Monroe could keep a coach more than 5 years. Hopefully they'll get some good candidates to look at. Weird how they always say resigned for personal reasons. More too it I think. Monroe is in a good spot just so many injuries this past year we couldn't do much. I'd be surprised if they don't promote someone from within. I'd like to see Snively get it but I don't think it'll happen.
