2022 Mid-State League

Persona Non Grata
Buckeye
It’ll be an interesting year. I don’t think the league champion comes out unbeaten in conference play.

Amanda will be solid. BC still has some guys all around. I don’t think they’ll be untouchable, however. Main thing on LU is how good their 2 and 3 will be. I know LU’s Friday games are AC, BC, CV and Logan Elm.

Cardinal
Berne brings back a lot. They have a better league-play schedule this year compared to last year — FC on a Monday, and Miller as the Wednesday game before FC on Friday the second time around. Easier on the arms arsenal compared to last year.

If Port & FCA rotations improve from last year then I think they can make it a four-team race. Rosecrans was young last year and could cause some problems on a given day. GCC???

Ohio
This is WC’s to lose, right?

My preseason rankings for Cardinal
1a Fisher
1b Berne
2. Millersport
3. FCA
4. GCC
5a. Miller
5b. HPS

Fisher and Berne have been at the top of the MSL for a while, and it looks like it will stay that way. Millersport was good last year but I don’t know how many players they lost. GCC was young last year, so they should be stronger this year.

BOLD PREDICTION- I believe Harvest Prep and Miller will split. To be fair, I am a Harvest Prep fan, so I might be a little optimistic. However, when your baseball team has not won a single game in 5+ years, all you can hope for is being competitive against the bottom-half of MSL. Harvest Prep also returns all but one player from last years team, and get their best player back, who sadly had a season ending injury before their first game.

Port brings back a ton. Big thing though for MP is how well their pitching develops. They’ve got kids with massive potential.

10-11 years ago Prep had a decent baseball team. I think they can snag one on Miller. Miller’s best player graduated along with a few others.

Grandview Hts has had 2 scrimmages both at home. Wednesday losing to Reynoldsburg 9-2 and Thursday beating Grove City Christian 11-1.

Who in the MSL has the toughest non-conference schedule?
On the Cardinal side of things, one could say it’s a tossup between Berne and FC.

FC
Amanda (District Finalist, D3 — bring back basically everyone)
Fairfield Union
Washington C.H.
Granville Christian
Eastern (Meigs County)
Worthington Christian
Tree of Life
Nelsonville-York
New Lexington
Centerburg
Sheridan
Lakewood
Logan

N.B. — usually when a non-league game gets axed due to rainouts, FC usually tries to match make against whoever is willing to play (e.g. DeSales last year.) They’ve also played Lancaster as impromptu tournament tune-ups in 2018, 2019 and 2021 — unsure if they’ll for sure do that again this year.

Berne Union
Newark Cath.
Amanda
FU
Centerburg
Rittman
Liberty Union
Tree
East Knox
Circleville
Logan Elm
Sheridan
Amanda (again.)

Opening Day, today! #LetEmKnow

fisher lost by 13????
Unearned runs + trying to make plays that aren’t there + 2-out rallies + not doing the little things = you lose two innings of baseball.

They’ll get it fixed. It’s a young and inexperienced team; plus, they’ve been playing on rotations/units, through two games, that aren’t their #1 unit. Building depth, experience in rotations 2-5 is paramount if you want to win a District Title and beyond. Teachable moments, learning experiences — opportunities exist. All of their scrims and games to date have been decent-to-good D1 and D2 programs, also. I’d rather see us throw strikes that result in balls put in play (which is what is currently happening) than get a false sense of security built up just K’ing kids left and right early on.
