2022 HS season

Doesn't look like it at this point. South Regionals will basically be the state tournament in my opinion. Anyone disagree?
Idk St Ignatius in the north doesn’t look bad, as for the East, liberty has an insanely light schedule this year so they will look good on the books, and Thomas is also undefeated so far but have Badin and Fenwick coming up which will be big proving games for if they a threat

Ignatius has already been beaten by Elder this year pretty handily. They may be the team coming out of the north but they don't look to be in the same category of the teams in the South. Don't really know much about Liberty or Thomas.

Given Walnut's recent form, I'd argue that the top 4 teams in the state are in the South. Although I'd love to see how Carroll matches up with those teams.

On a slightly different note, has anyone heard of any potential teams for the future? Looks like 8 new teams were added this year; 3 in the East, 4 in the North and 1 in the West. The East (38 teams) obviously has a healthy amount of teams, but, as dominant as it's been, it'd be nice to see the South (18 teams) grow more, in addition to the West (18 teams) and North (20 teams). Just wondering if anything has been put out there.

Thomas plays liberty, Badin, and Fenwick soon and depending on those games I’d say they are a team to watch as of now

The South does look particularly dominant this year, but it’s possible the East has some Cinderella teams who could make a run. Olentangy and Olentangy Berlin should be major players in the D2 tournament. It looks like Thomas is better than last year, while most of their opponents graduated their top players.

If you go on the OHSBVA website, there is a tab for maps of current teams. If you click there is a map of "potential" teams as well. I'd assume there was some communication between those schools and the OHSBVA about having interest in having a team.

Based on that, in the South there was interest from Georgetown, Goshen, Turpin, Anderson, Lockland, Woodward, Mt Healthy and Northwest. If Turpin and Northwest added the ECC conference would have 7 teams (currently Milford, Loveland, Walnut Hills, West Clermont, and new program Lebanon).

I’ve seen that before, but some of those schools have been listed for awhile. That’s why I wasn’t sure if others were potentially being talked about, but maybe not listed. Hell, South D2 just in 2019 had 8 instead of 6, but Monroe and Purcell folded their programs.

I’ve seen Beavercreek play Elder and Moeller. I’m curious, what is with the female player on Beavercreek’s team? Apparently she played for the girls team, and now the boys. ?‍♂️

I'm not familiar with this situation, but I know Fairfield had a female libero a few years back. She had torn her ACL or something and missed her senior season so she asked to play for the boys team. She was pretty good and definitely helped Fairfield be more competitive.

I could see it if you have a tiny roster and need an extra body maybe, but I'd hate to see boys lose out on playing opportunities at high schools due to programs wanting to be more competitive and using girls for skill positions.

Pretty sure she did not play for the girls team. Some kind of issue during their season which didn't allow her to play then.

Could be. She played and recorded stats in ‘20. No stats in ‘21.
But why? If we are trying to build the sport of boys volleyball, does it make sense to take a spot away from a player to have a girl play Libero. Beavercreek has to have some boy who can pass and play defense. If I’m a parent and my son isn’t playing because of this I would not be happy.

Agree. And in my opinion (I’m newer to the sport) they are better without her out there. Oh well. I will see Beavercreek play again a few times later this season; curious what her role continues to be with their team.

Centerville looked pretty good vs Elder last night. Would be shocked if they didn't make it out of the West Region. Both OHs can terminate with authority, OPP made some plays but is a bit inconsistent. S can get the ball to his hitters and runs some good plays. Libero isn't afraid to hang in and fill holes (even took a 31 off the face) - gets some good digs and touches and was passable if not good in serve receive. The MBs were a bit anonymous, though - that's probably their weakest point. Elder's MBs probably hit over .600.

Was looking at St. X's schedule and they last played on 4/8 and don't play again until 4/20. And they've only played 3 matches so far. It slightly annoys me because those kids deserve better and deserve a coach who's still all-in on the program and doing right by the kids. Maybe Ferris has something going on in his life that I/we don't know about and I hope everything is okay with him/his family, but I hate that one of the best programs in Ohio is only playing a 17 match regular season schedule and has a 12 day lay off between matches in the middle of the season. They'll still have a good season I'm sure and will, of course, be a threat to come out of the South, but make sure the kids get to play as much as possible.

I’m with you. I’ve always been a fan of doing 24 matches. It tends to work out to about three a week. In my opinion, it’s the best way to get ready for the playoffs.

Would that time frame match up to St. X’s spring break/Easter?

Looks like their spring break was about a month ago. They have the usual Easter holiday days off of Good Friday and Easter Monday, so I'm still confused about that long of a break between matches and only scheduling 17 matches.

Even if you can't do the max of 24, getting to at least 20 would seem like a priority.

No, they had spring break weeks ago. They’re off 4/17-4/20 for Easter.

Look deeper at their schedule. Two weeks from now they play Elder on friday, centerville elite on Saturday, beaver creek on wed, Moeller on Thursday, 2 matches at against Walsh and st I on Saturday am with a drive back to cincy to play brecksville sat pm.

good luck boys.

That is half their regular season in 8 days! Makes no sense at all.

Looks like Carroll Still has to play Moeller but If they can get by them I don't see anyone else beating them in D2.

My money is on Thomas Worthington. They look pretty darn good. Several college-bound players including Bo O'Leary, a big lanky MB and a very athletic setter, Joe Kolwicz who played together all club season at A2.

I still like Carroll a lot, but I think it's possible they have a slip up @ Badin or @ Moeller. But them taking care of Centerville is pretty impressive.

I am guessing you are basing this off of Worthington having an easier schedule, but not necessarily better than Carroll? I don't know anything about Liberty.

Well, Thomas and Liberty play each other on May 4th, so obviously they can’t both go undefeated in the regular season. Liberty’s schedule is so weak that it’s almost certain they won’t drop a set before then. Thomas has the tri match with Badin and Fenwick to worry about, as well as a few OCC-Cardinal rematches. The fact that Thomas has won once against everyone in that conference is quite impressive. I would even argue it’s the the most competitive conference second to the GCL, so it makes it all the more impressive that they’ve come this far. I haven’t seen much of Carroll’s play, so I can’t speak to that too much.

No arguments here. In division 1, I think the top 4 teams have proven themselves. I would agree that Elder should be 1st, after that it's a tossup.

Division 2 Carrol has separated themselves from the pack. I think Alter has a lot to prove against Badin this week to show they deserve to be top 5. I would have personally switched those 2 teams if I were ranking

Its amazing that Darby is still getting votes. It is equally amazing that they are almost of the list.. Cant remember the last time they were not on the list.
