It would not be at all surprising if EVERY St. X 2021 regular season opponent has a loss, by the end of this upcoming week's games. In fact, I kind of expect that to be the case.

Hmmmmmmm
And the GCL is 3-0 against the GMC.

Surprised at the Liberty loss, they were supposed to have a better than average team returning. Tough to judge Penn, Trinity, or Eagles Landing, since I'm not sure how their opponents rank.

Biggest surprise for me was Ignatius almost beating Springfield, game they definitely should have won, being up 10 in the 4th quarter. Going to try to find a broadcast of that game to see what happened, because either I's is better than expected, or SHS may have some issues.

With the win the Bombers move up 3 spots to 20th in the nation in MaxPreps Super 25.
The only other midwest team represented is Carmel (IN) who beat Louisville Trinity 49-38, the Bombers week 7 opponent.
Trinity hosts the evil empire this Friday

Eagles Landing (0-2) lost to Ware County 52-28; next 9/3 Rabun County
X's regular season schedule no longer looks like much of a "Murderer's Row":
Colerain was outmatched right from the opening kickoff;
Liberty is unlikely to be competitive this week, on the evidence of their first two games;
Mishawaka Penn looks likely to be 0-3, when X faces them and (now) looks to be an opponent of dubious merit;
Moeller will be 3-0 (thanks to Covid knocking off Trinity for them), but with no wins of any substance;
Elder will still be Elder, and will be competitive-- but Elder lost by 18 to a PC team that has no offense to speak of, other than running the QB;
Trinity is 0-1 (with an upset loss) and (at this point) unproven;
LaSalle struggled to beat Colerain last week-- which tells you all you need to know about LaSalle this year;
Ig looks like maybe the best team on X's schedule-- and will be competitive, but Ig is still 0-2, and not reminiscent of Ig teams of the glory years;
Eagles Landing is ALSO 0-2, after taking another pounding, and (now) looks to be an opponent of dubious merit.

It looks like X's big challenges will most likely come in the playoffs-- if LW can figure out an offense, Springfield steps up (like last year in Piqua), PC can figure out an offense, Mentor negotiates the minefield of Ig and Ed (or vice versa) in the playoffs-- those could all be very tough outs in the playoffs, if X should earn the opportunity to face them-- but it's hard to get excited about all but one or two of the remaining regular season games, right now.

Week 3
Mishawaka Penn (0-3) lost to Cathedral 37-0; next 9/10 St. X
Moeller (3-0) beat East Central (St. Leon, IN) 39-22;
Elder (2-1) beat to Beacon Hill (VA- home schoolers) 47-0;
Louisville Trinity (0-2) lost to St. Rita (IL- NOT The School for the Deaf) 27-14;
LaSalle (2-1) lost to IMG Academy 58-7;
St. Ignatius (1-2) beat Mt. St. Joseph (MD- NOT the Delhi [former] women's college) 20-7;
Eagle's Landing (2-1) beat Chamblee (GA) 33-21;

This is shaping up to be a much weaker schedule for X than anticipated; of the remaining regular season games:
1) Penn is 0-3, and has not been competitive in its losses-- Penn looks to be down significantly;
2) Moeller is 3-0, but has played NO ONE-- not one school that is an Ohio Division I equivalent;
3) Elder is 2-1, with the loss to Pickerington Central in a fairly close game-- this game will tell X a lot more about its team & chances this year;
4) Trinity is 0-2, with losses to teams that are not that good-- Trinity looks to be down significantly;
5) LaSalle is 2-1, with close wins against Colerain and Winton Woods-- but both Colerain and WW are down significantly this year;
6) Ig is 1-2, with close losses to two top teams (Springfield, Mentor), both of which Ig could have won-- this is the other game that will tell X a lot;
7) Eagle's Landing is 2-1, with two close wins, but EL was routed 35-7 in the loss-- hard to tell what this team has, at this point;

Agreed that right now Elder and Ignatius are probably the best measuring stick games, though I'm interested to see how West and Colerain, and Liberty to an extent do the rest of the year. If Colerain turns out to be an even average team, then it may show really how good this X team is. The 1st team defense has not allowed points in 10 quarters now, and the 14 they have allowed have been on drives totalling less than 50 yards. The offense is starting to really get going now- BMc I think has missed 3 passes in the past 2 weeks, and the chemistry he has with McFarlin is becoming special.
Bottom line is the team is doing what they should be doing against mediocre competition, and put away another top 10 team in the state by 17 in a pretty dominant second half performance. The offense is going to get glory, but this defense is studly, and seems to be getting better.

I really like McC's decision-making this year-- as contrasted with (for example) the decision-making he exhibited in that Brownsburg game (at the end of the game), or throughout the LW or Springfield games last year... My presumption is that he went to a LOT of QB/passing camps last summer (that, and probably a LOT of talks with Coverdale, as they reviewed game film from last year)-- one assumes that they probably put a lot of emphasis on NOT making decisions (on throws OR QB runs) that cost the team possession of the ball, when the offense is either in a position to score or in a position to run out the clock on a win.

It's too early to know how good the schedule is, but I think that X is pretty good in all phases of the game at this point in the season. That's what all of the returning seniors will do for you. The team just needs to take it one week at a time. They cannot control how good their opponent is week in and week out. Just work at getting better each week.

With Ed beating Mentor 47-7 (Mentor was understrength for the game), it sure is starting to look like:
R1: Ed
R2: Springfield
R3: Pick Central
R4: X

It will be interesting to see if the two publics are up to challenging the two privates... I'd also imagine that LW will challenge X to get out of R4, while Ed gets a challenge from Ig, and Springfield gets a challenge from (maybe) Clayton Northmont... I don't think PC has a comparable challenger in R3...

Hard to believe that Oak Hills actually gave LW a better game than Princeton did... I'm starting to think OH might have a chance to win that game against Colerain this week. Meanwhile, Moeller is a fraud, and Trinity STINKS-- the St. X student announcer (Gavin) who kept saying that that was a BIG game for LaSalle because "Trinity is a really good team" needed to check the records-- Trinity is 0-3 now-- and NOT because they've been playing top teams-- which tells you all you need to know about LaSalle this year... and Eagles Landing looks like a cripple, too.

As noted in the thread about X's opponents this year, there are two games left on the schedule which will tell X what is has (and how it compares with Ed-- which is the measuring stick X is going to have to surpass, if they hope to repeat this year): Elder and Ig--Ed also plays both of them (and Moe-- but Ed will crush Moe, as I expect X will). If Ed blows out Elder in The Pit today, it will tell X a lot about how high that Ed standard is.

By the way, think about HOW BAD Olentangy Berlin would have to be, to lose 38-14 last night to THAT Olentangy Liberty team X saw last week!

Looks like Elder picked the wrong year to play Louisville St. X instead of Louisville Trinity-- and X picked the wrong year to reverse those games, as well-- if X wanted a good game... It will be interesting to see how badly LSX mauls LT this week-- given that most of the last 2-3 decades, LT has owned LSX...

Meanwhile, what level of football are Westerville Central and Elkhart (IN) playing??? They lost to those P.O. Liberty and Mishiwaka Penn teams (respectively), that could not get out of their own way to save their lives-- BY FOUR TOUCHDOWNS?!! What kind of players are Westerville Central and Elkhart using-- middle-schoolers?? (To be fair, P.O. Liberty is now 3-2-- what is wrong with these teams that they are beating??? X is really good-- but P.O. Liberty was really bad.)

It now looks like Ig will be the only tough game on the schedule, after the opener...

St. X will have played 3 or 4 D1 Top 10 & 2 or 3 Top 5(in OH) before playoffs when all said & done. A little different than their normal 4-6....but to go back to back, they will need to have beaten 7-9 Top 10 teams. Still not too shabby....

How do you figure (beyond Lakota West)? I don't count Moeller, because they won't end in the top ten, let alone top five-- and never should have been there last week. Nobody else (except possibly Ig) looks like a likely top ten team, at season's end.

The likelihood is that X will have faced one in the season, and then possibly 3 more (regional final, semi-final, final) if they make it to the final...

That's not how polls work but interesting way to look at it your way....

Hard to judge HS football some years especially, when you incorporate loyal fan bases & wishful expectations not to mention, the press trying to keep large fan bases happy......this year is one of those tough years specifically, in OH

Ughh-- Dub-Coff and Mishi-Marion-- how FAR must Coffman have fallen to lose THAT badly to THAT POL team? (Though to be fair, POL is 4-2 now-- I guess we'll find out if UA really is worth talking about-- or if UA is a complete fraud-- this week with POL v. UA.)

Could Colerain STILL be the second-best team in the GMC-- hard to believe, with how far they look to have fallen-- but it looks like Colerain v. LE this week will tell the tale-- doesn't say a lot for the GMC that those look to be the league's next best after LW.

Meanwhile, I'll take Elder to beat Moeller by 7+ this week; LaSalle to get mauled by Cathedral (i.e.- running clock); and Ig to give Ed a solid game for at least a half, maybe even 4 quarters (i.e.- NO running clock).

Moeller with the OT win over St. Ignatius puts them in position to possibly be the 1 seed in R4
I don't see Moeller winning either of their last 2 games....they will be #3 seed
The winner of the Lakota East-West game gets the #2 seed.
