2010 NBC softball

who won tonight ?

:-( Same 'ole, same 'ole for the kids at CS. Rarely an earned run against them; same defensive and base-running errors. Very sad...observers can see that it's getting to the skilled, serious players; doesn't appear as though there's any hope for them that necessary changes will be made. Best wishes to all the NBC teams as the second half begins.

I feel for the kids at south that someone could be such a bad person . I really hope Greene knows what everyone watching thinks . I know they don't care about the kids they are cheating , South should hang there head for letting this go on .

Keep your head up South girls , everyone knows with a couple players moved around things might be different . I wonder if he will go down as the worst coach in south history .One things for sure he is really bad .......

just curious. how would you know that the others are skilled if they are not playing as you indicate? how do you know it would be different?

Well let me help you, most of the teams play summer softball some travel some in house . So at least the three kids I know from south all have played against all the top travel players in the nbc. The ss for south has had at least one error in all three games i watched . Maybe I only saw three but I have saw the JV ss play travelball and it aint even close . So at least from that side they could be better .

What team(s) do they play for in the summer ? I can only speak from what I know. The top players in the NBC have played in national qualifying tournaments playing the top teams from Georgia, Florida, Arizona, and California then placed 5th as 12U and 7th at 14U at ASA Nationals. I do not believe that there were any other Ohio teams there. Please help me.

Im not saying they all played on these teams but One of the kids have played for the ohio ice and the other played for the slammers for a while . They did not all play on National teams but 2 did and the point was the varcity coach is bad .

Bad lol how about ...... Im being told he won't turn in the teams stats and one of the parents ask why . His answer was he don't have to . Is this true ? Im always hard on poor coaching, sometimes to hard but this guy is my all time worst NBC coach .

I would imagine that if a parent asked for stats specific to their daughter he would provide them. Conversely, if a request was made for the entire team and could be used for comparison and possible ammunition, then probably not.

Lady Leopards 4
Lady Lions 2
Stiff wind blowing out from home plate made any ball hit in the air a potential homerun

He won't turn them in to the news paper wow . Thats part of the game why do you think they keep score, you got a winner and a looser thats part of life . Stats are a part of the game you work hard to compete, it teaches you hard work pays off . It don't mean your a bad person if you hit .090 it just means you need to work harder . Is this not what sports are all about work hard have goals learn how to win and loose . Not my kid is doing bad so you can't look his feeling might get hurt . My kid might have 3 errors today but its ok if everyone knows, cause tomorrow we are gonna get up and come right back at you . The stats are there to compete with other players and yourself .

There are many reasons why players choose not to pursue summer travel ball. Not playing travel ball does not equate to a lesser skilled player. As with any activity, quality repetition improves the skills. Travel ball isn’t the only means to quality repetition and sound learned skills. Each summer season of travel ball begins at an average cost of $500-$1500/player. The primary objective of the travel ball “business” is to expose players to college recruiters. Most travel ball players, if not independently wealthy, have their summer weekend “vacations” of playing from tournament to tournament, their equipment, uniforms and incidental expenses funded by THIRD PARTIES through sponsorships and other fund raising endeavors. The remaining travel, meal and incidental expenses, if any, are paid by the families who choose to “chase the dream” on behalf of their children. What is that dream? No NCAA D-III college or university can award an athletic scholarship. The average cost to attend (tuition, room, and board) a private D-III institution in Ohio is roughly $30,000 - $35,000/year. NCAA D-I and D-II schools are limited by sport to how many full and partial athletic scholarships it may award each year to its current roster and new recruits. Not every player on the roster is awarded an athletic scholarship and some scholarships are split between players. The distribution is at the discretion of each institution and coach. The average cost to attend a public D-I or D-II institution in Ohio is significantly less and can be obtained for an average of $16,000 - $20,000. Out-of-state tuition rates are usually higher at both private and public institutions. Generally speaking, emphasis on high academic achievement and ACT/SAT scores, community service, and leadership experience will reap far more profitable and available financial aid to fund a college education than the few available athletic scholarships to only the exceptionally gifted athlete. So while some choose to “chase the dream” through travel ball at the expense of others, some families have actually factored the cost-effectiveness and some players are actually choosing to focus on academic achievement and part-time employment (i.e., work ethic) to finance their college education themselves in these extremely tough economic times. Or maybe softball isn’t the only sport a player plays. Or maybe some kids have other personal interests and hobbies and don’t live and die by softball or any one sport. To each his own, but don’t assume that the only good players are “travel ball” players nor that the only players playing at the college level are “travel ball” players – for softball or any other sport.

Haven't heard that rumor...but did hear that the stats can't be accurate anyway...two reasons - the inexperience of the statistician and errors aren't being recorded purposefully for certain players. So innacurate stats would serve no purpose for this season. The players and spectators would have a better assessment of performance than a score book. Agree with NOTACSFAN23 regarding the purpose of well-kept stats.

I have to agree with this . I also like travel ball but its a family hobby and so far its paid off with the older kids, not just in scholarship money but in other ways. I do think playing the better compitition night in and night out helps . You are right there are still alot of good players that don't play travel.

Call the pappers Canton South plays one error free game . Lets see how they do when they play louisville or Alliance, to have errors someone has to hit the ball at you .

So true!!! Had CS played error-free ball the last time around, they would have shut-out Louisville, 3-0, and beat Alliance 3-1. None of either teams runs were earned last time. :-)

Canton South - the enigma of 2010 NBC fastpitch. Putting all the pieces together at the same time they would be pretty good.

Louisville expects to win, and maybe has gotten lazy about it. They should be better than they are. No one in the NBC as yet has been able to wake them up.

Good coaches know when to push, louisville will fight when they have to . Canton souths coach is horrible, the kids have no leader . All he has to teach is if you know the right people you get to play . I have said it many times I don't understand how anyone could let this guy coach ........

Canton South had no errors in a win over Northwest.

In every sport coaches put kids together to see who is best . In wrestling you go head to head winner makes varsity . Football you line up and crack heads . At south you bunt your best hitter on till she goes into a slump and make sure the varsity never goes against the jv. Greene your an sweetie ... The guy on jv is an even bigger sweetie, the people need to go to the boared and get you fired .

Standings after 5/4:

1. Louisville 11-0
2. Alliance 9-2
3. West Branch 6-5
4. Marlington 5-6
4. Carrollton 5-6
6. Canton South 4-7
7. Northwest 3-8
8. Minerva 1-10
