    Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians, then Indians, were 17-6 in 1999 & 1966. I remember 1966 like it was yesterday. They started 10-0 that season. I'm pretty sure they were 14-1 after 15 games, and I know they finished at 81-81 at least 15 games behind Baltimore. Hopefully this season finishes more like the 1999...

    Cleveland Guardians

The Guards broke out the brooms today. That's what "good teams" are supposed to do against weaker teams. Also, I believe they are the only team in MLB that is undefeated when they score first, 11-0 now. GO GUARDS!

Another series win. Now go get the sweep tomorrow. GO GUARDS!

    Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians take 3 out of 4 from the Sox in Fenway and run their road record to 10-3. We certainly cannot complain about that. Herrin, Gaddis and Clase all work 1-2-3 innings. Bring on Oakland. GO GUARDS!

Nice win to start the road trip. Pitching as a whole was excellent today. I think that's the best I have ever seen Mr. Herrin look. 4th shutout of the young season by the Guardians pitching staff. GO GUARDS!

Remembering the Youngstown City Series and Steel Valley Conference

Maybe that's true but if so why did it take Fitch an additional 15 years and 3 head coaches to finally leave the SVC? I said that Fitch absolutely should have had one more play and Mooney should have also. The point is I would bet my house that you were never told about the last play of the...

Agreed. Two of them in the 10th inning. Fortunately they didn't cost them the game, they easily could have. Big win to avoid the sweep.

You are welcome gentlemen, and I use that term very loosely when applied to you Scipio! :) I have been working on something but I do want to say one thing about the 1988 Mooney-Fitch game before moving on to 1989. I probably should just let it go but I want to address "the story I heard"...

As others have said it's only Oakland but Mr. Smith certainly looked impressive in his MLB debut. Hopefully the Guardians can get the sweep today and possibly save some of those excess runs for Seattle. The M's pitching staff will be much tougher to score against. GO GUARDS!

I knew the consensus was that Alter was the favorite but I certainly didn't expect a running clock margin. Congratulations to the Knights. Good luck in the final. Congratulations to the Irish on a great season.

Yes he was a great athlete. Not many sophs. even made the field back in the day. To my knowledge Ted Bell was the first SVC player to make the 1st team All-SVC team as a sophomore back in 1971. Then Joe Croft of Mooney did it in 74 and then Mr. Anderson in 88. Of course Ted Bell went on to make...

Remembering the Youngstown City Series and Steel Valley Conference

The 1988 season was one of tragic loss for area football fans in general and Mooney fans in particular as long-time Mooney teacher and coach Ron Stoops Sr. suffered a fatal heart attack at the conclusion of the Mooney-Boardman game. His oldest son, Ron Jr., was on the opposite sideline coaching...

Remembering the Youngstown City Series and Steel Valley Conference

Mooney's 14-0 win over Ursuline was indeed the largest spread of any of the SVC games in 87. Mooney's lone loss was to Cleveland St. Joseph but Boardman beat the Vikings in the playoffs to even that up. Ursuline lost to ASVM and Struthers but Mooney beat both of them. As I posted above Ursuline...

    Saturday, March 16 Final Scores

Mooney trailed by 17 at the end of 3 quarters. In the 4th the Cardinals cut the lead to 7 and had the ball but could not convert on that possession or get any closer. Congratulations to them on a great season. Good luck to Ursuline and Canfield tonight. One of them is going to Dayton.

I believe the 1987 SVC teams posted a 26-7 OOC record including the D3 state title and the D1-runner up finish. You are welcome sir.
