Happened to my school team in the 00's. Had a tournament game on a Tuesday & a make-up league game on Thursday that we had to win to get the league title. Saved our ace for the league game and lost the tournament game. We did win the league game though & thus the title.

Not sure how it works for each district, but for most, the top 8 teams get to pass & the 9th has to go on the board. The number allowed to pass could vary depending on the amount of teams seeded within that district but I'm not privy to that info.

Most Head Coaches that I know(D3 & D4 Central Ohio) are making around $6.5k-$8k. Assistants are closer to $3.5k-$4k. They are all just under 20% of base teacher pay.
