McKinley and the Federal League

That's like Niles McK, back in the late 50,s an 60,s 70,s they were a state power house I think they had the longest win streak in the state 48 games in a row, then wen the steel jobs dried up the power moved over to Austintown across I76 now there, an have been a just a shadow of what was once a great football program
The decline of Niles and many similar older communities, they were land locked from building new home developments. When a community cannot attract young families moving into their communities you are going to have a decline in population and youth programs decline. During the time period between the 50-70s Niles had 2 catholic schools, 2 middle schools and 2 independent youth football programs feeding a football program that had numbers that would make today's largest D1 schools envy. Today, if the 9th grade team has 12 kids it is a good year.

Niles was a state power during that era. Massillon broke their 48 game winning streak. That game was played at the Akron Rubber Bowl in 1964 before 30,000+ fans. That Tiger win kept the Massillon 52 winning streak intact. I attended a few Niles-Canton McKinley games throughout the years. The Red Dragons played most of their games on Saturday nights. The AAC was the best football conference, ever.
Back then, games were on Saturday and JV was on Monday. Sure, there was an hour drive for McKinley and Massillon to come to Warren or Niles but the restaurants on 422 where packed before and after the game with both Niles fans and the fans from Stark. Also, the stadiums were packed every time they played.

Away games back then was a real adventure, good times with a win but long ride home with a loss...BAM!

Ok. I'll ask again because I'm really curious about this. What is your point with this? Are you saying McKinley is too good for the Fed? McKinley should leave the Fed? McKinley rules the Fed? I don't want to go down this road. But I haven't seen too much from McKinley lately.

Like it or not, McKinley has no desire to leave the Federal League, they are top dogs in the revenue sports, and anyone thinking that they are losing money in the Federal League, lacks any understanding of basic economics. Even Massillon see's the writing on the wall, heck they even tried to join the Suburban League, after being rejected by the Federal League. Sure McKinley could play an Indy schedule in football and basketball and make money, but then you lose money with all the non-revenue sports especially with the travel related costs. In regards to McKinley leaving the Fed and starting a new league, what viable options are there that make sense? You could have McKinley and Massillon, but then who else do you add to come up with a six team league? Hoban is not going to join, both Glenoak and Jackson (D1) schools wont leave Fed, it's unrealistic to think a league of Massillon, McKinley, Iggy, St. Eds, Mentor and lets say Warren could survive in todays world. The best case scenario for the FED is just to add Massillon, they could add a poison pill about transfers if that would make Hoover, Jackson and Lake happy and allow Massillon entry into the FED, the poison pill would be for all schools not just Massillon.

McKinley's 2003 football schedule was hardly a revenue producing schedule based on home opponents. They typically drew about 3K or below for the Canadian teams. I think it's safe to say they produce more revenue with the FED Teams playing at McKinley.

You are bringing up 18 and 19 year old schedules and acting like your on to something. Those are older than most kids playing this year. lol

The bottom line is the money, it doesn't matter how many years ago, McKinley makes out better financially in the Federal League then they would as a INDY. The Administration doesn't want to get into the same situation that Massillon currently has, which is that their AD desperately wants to get them into a league, but there is no league in NE Ohio that will take Massillon. You know when your rejected out of hand by the Suburban League, then you really have zero options in regards to joining a league. Massillon applying to Suburban was completely money driven, they see the writing on the wall, McKinley has no reason to put themselves into the same situation that Massillon is in! Yes, I realize the myopic Tiger fans will say they don't need a league, or dont want a league, but I can state with 100% confidence if they could join the FED or Suburban, the AD would jump on the chance. Louisville is in a similar situation as Massillon, but their situation is worse, they can't offer the payouts that Massillon can to bring teams in for home games, and outside of joining the FED (where they would be a middle to bottom team in football), the Leopards really have no league options and will not have the same success as Massillon being an Indy. Massillon football will always be good no matter if they are an Indy, or in a league, but it's all about the money, and if they get the opportunity to join a league (FED or Suburban are the only realistic options), they will take the opportunity in a heart beat contrary to what many of their fans on this site will say!

The guy that the CCS system just hired to over see all athletic programs I think from Lake all but assures McKinley will be in the Federal League for years to come.

You forgot to add, that McKinley actually won a legit title on the field, something Massillon has not been able to win a title on the field.
I didn't forget anything, I just want to hear the haters admit that poll tiles do indeed count. I give McK credit and respect for every title they've won, others could do likewise.
