PET SONG of the DAY

For all of us that love our pets.

Post a song that relates to a pet that you have or have had.

Our present pet is an all white long haired cat name Sinatra she is not
an albino (no pink eyes) her eyes are blue - thus her name.

It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1966 - it lost.
On the US Billboard Hot-100 the peak position = #3 sung by Tom Jones.

---

Over the years several other cats, a few dogs (mostly mutts but 1 pure bread French Poodle,
and the McKinley mascot English Bulldog - Max) also a skunk named Buttercup, and a parrot.

Guess I dont have a pet song.

But........in April I heard this song for the first time, Maggies Song, by Stapleton.
It is a tear jerker.
Little did I know at the time my dog was on her death bed and had to get emergency surgery over Easter weekend.
Luckily, she pulled through and now is the same pup she was a few years ago. Each time I hear that song I just think of her laying lifeless on my lap as I speed to the vet.

Haven't hear that one in ages. Does "easy listening" even exist anymore? Googled Lobo (Kent Lavoie). He started in a band with Gram Parson (Flying Burrito Brothers) and Jim Stafford! That's a pretty powerful group of early country-rock. Hey, does this song qualify for this thread? I dated a Mary Lou in high school

Back in 1976 the kids wanted an unusual pet, We got a de-scented skunk at a
pet store in Mellett Mall. The kids named it Buttercup. We had it a year. Never
could get it cat-liter trained, and it would tear up the dirt in the big potted
house plants, It was funny when it would stomp it's rear feet and take aim
but nothing came out. as far as we know it didn't end up in the middle of the
road....

We had a pet parrot once...
some things that it would say...
"My Grandfather was an eagle"

If you asked it - "Polly want a cracker?" the response would often be...
"Crackers hell, get me a beer!"

Like wise... "Sing Polly"
Response ... "If you wanted music you should have got a canary"

Speaking of pets...anyone see that Pet Saved My Life show on AE the other night?
Pretty interesting

I won't say how old I was or how many times I had heard this song, before someone told me they were talking about a dog.

Canton Ohio's own O'Jays singing Brandy

An unappreciated song, including by me. Nice, pleasingly long intro and intriguing musicianship and vocals throughout.

Just followed the lyrics for the first time. Thanks!
Concur. Never knew much about Stewart so I checked the wiki. Someone could wrap a history course around his song set.
