Ohio State Buckeyes 2021

IU better worry about being the favorite against top 25 comp before making the tOSU game the biggest game in decades. Hosting a top 15 UC and traveling to Penn State for a possible White Out Game are no gimmes before the Buckeyes come to town.

Just read an article on Indiana. They have cleaned up utilizing the portal. I am anticipating they pump our game up to be the biggest home game in decades (unless we don't take care of September business). Never thought I would see the day in which IU worries me more than TTUN. Crazy...
They are certainly improving. Couple of comments.

Except for rare QB transfers like Justin Fields, most of the guys in the portal are not good enough to start on their current team. SO it may be good for IU to bolster their roster, their roster is still a long ways behind OSU.

Also, while Oregon will be a challenge, and tOSU will be playing an inexperienced QB, I'm pretty confident that IU will have more losses than tOSU heading into that game in Bloomington. They play at Iowa, Cincinnati at home, and at Penn State. They will likely have 2 losses heading into the game with the Buckeyes. Hopefully Buckeyes are on zero.

Having said that, I agree that the game at IU might be the most worrisome Big Ten game of the season.

I just cannot get the Iowa or Purdue games out of my memory. I always look for the road game that takes the season. Bloomington could be dicey if they have success in two of the three games mentioned above. I feel like they get a transfer every 4 days or so.

While not a road game you forgot the all time worst, Michigan State in 2015. Also Va Tech in 2014. Meyer was known for the one bad game syndrome. Day has so far avoided this issue and seem much more focused week to week in the regular season.

True. But OSU better not take them lightly.

I am really confident we will get good results from that position after the first few games. It might take work from the ground weeks 1-3 to get one of them completely comfortable. The RB room is stacked, so I am fine with relying on our run game for a few weeks. Keep Oregon's offense off the field.

He’ll likely end up playing DE and move to DT in the rushman package. If both him and Sawyer pan out, OSU could have 2 DL picked in the top 5 in the 2024 draft. Also, Big 10 QBs will all likely be dead at that point.

I coached with a guy who said you can measure how good a team is by their Dline. It is no mistake that in this years Phil Steele the top five Dline Units are Clemson, Bama, OSU, OU, and Georgia who also happen to be the top five teams in the country.

On top of Sawyer and Tuimoloua with Harrison, Smith, Garrett, Friday, and others there is NO lack of depth on that Dline. I also agree that Tuimoloua will be versatile and probably shift more inside as his career progresses and his Samoan genes take over. ;)

I don't want to see this thread go the way a few others have gone with COVID debating. The Tulsa game could potentially be interesting for you. You may have an opportunity to see all of the depth the Bucks have if they handle business accordingly in the first half. Day and the staff will earn their $$$ figuring out the QB room. Have fun at the game!!

Some of the national guys that are not big on the Ohio State brand are piling on the Quin Ewers situation. They are calling out the conundrum this is leading to with a loaded QB room and the past history that Day had a say in taking Haskins as QB1 over Burrows when a similar situation presented its self. They are predicting by the end of the season there will be only 2 QBs left on the roster while two others will be transferring out and they are not sure the right ones will be left. They are also calling out It will also create a toxic situation during the season and future recruiting of the position will be hampered.

Pretty silly narrative if a large part of the basis is Day picking Haskins over Burrow given two very important distinctions:
1) Haskins was the #2 by default given Burrow broke his hand
2) Haskins set OSU career records in 2018 while Burrow was largely pedestrian.

Not sure how they’d end up with the wrong two tho. Whoever is the starter (Stroud) won’t transfer and the starter will clearly be better than the other 3. Whoever loses the backup job between Ewers and McCord will likely transfer. And then Miller transfers. Or Stroud loses the job midway, he transfers and Ewers/McCord takes the job. If that happens I’d guess Miller still transfer and OSU keeps McCord and Ewers who both knew they’d likely have to sit for a few years anyway.

Or I could be totally wrong and everyone transfers but Miller.

I don't see Day having any problems recruiting high level QB's as long as he is in Columbus. I agree with the majority of fans that two will stay and two will probably go. I trust his leadership.

They will probably have 1-2 go, but they'll likely also have more on the way including one guy in 2022 now that Ewers has reclassified up to 2021.

A lot of chatter that the OL is being shaken up w/ Thayer Mumford moving to left guard, while Nicholas Petit-Frere lines up at left tackle. Dawand Jones, meanwhile, would be the starting right tackle with Harry Miller at center and Paris Johnson Jr. at right guard. Not sure if this was just for a practice but some are speculating that they want to play their best 5 and this puts the guys in their best spots. FYI Ourlads projected it as Mumford LT, Miller LG, Wypler C, Johnson RG, and Petit-Frere at RT. Another tid-bit out there is that Petit-Frere made a huge jump this off season and is rounding into a top notch LT type player with an upgraded body to match his athleticism Not sure about this as Mumford was rock solid at the LT position...

A lot of interesting nuggets that seem to be bouncing around. There seems to be some serious traction to the mentioned OL shakeup to create a spot for Dawand Jones, which I find to be interesting as last week there was some buzz about more traditional interior OL like Wypler and Fryar looking good early in camp.

Seems like Henderson is drawing rave reviews and appears primed for a return specialist role, and probably sooner than later will emerge as the lead RB.

Reading some articles out there and it is looking like several guys have gotten banged up a bit the last two or three days. I believe they have a full throttle scrimmage on Saturday. I think Henderson will be RB1 by week 3 or 4, if not sooner. The ground game will be crucial the first two games to keep QB1 confident. Someone is going to quarterback in front of a packed house on the road for the first time in a few years. That bothers me a bit in all honesty.

The way some are talking about Henderson they act like he's the most talented RB they've seen while covering Ohio State, which for some of these "insiders" would include Dobbins, Zeke, Beanie, Clarett and probably as far back as Eddie George.

I think Miyan Williams may get a few games before Henderson progressively takes over the bulk of snaps with Miyan getting some snaps here and there, and Teague getting some goal line work. The most interesting part of the RB dynamic is that the first two games aren't exactly gimmes, and if Henderson is heads and shoulders above everyone he probably should be carrying the load against Minnesota and Oregon out of the gate.

I really liked Williams. If Henderson wins it, let's see him.

Thanks for that link. I think this one is far closer than people expect. Going TOSU 30 / MINNY 20
Tough road opener, but I cannot wait to see the Bucks and a chaotic crowd.
