PURPLE REIGN

Seeds have held pretty close to par for the first-two rounds in D1 SW Ohio. Games tonight should be slightly closer but I still expect the GGCL to all win in three games + Lebanon. Mercy vs. Turpin has a chance to be close. Amazingly, the GMC has only one school left (Lakota West). Every other team is finished which is disappointing for the league.

Any upset around the state?

In NWO Perrysburg #6 seed over Anthony Wayne #1 seed. Tough to beat the same team 3 times.

With Padua moving to a different regional the Norwalk (now looks like Port Clinton regional) is wide open. Having seen all the contenders in that regional I would not be confident to put $$$ on anyone. All very equal/good, but not great. A 0-3 game in the final 4 is staring them in the face.

NEO is like a broken record in Div I. It's mostly about Padua and they should be in the finals yet again to see if they can get over the GGCL hump.

For Div II they split up the dominate former NCL teams over 5 different Districts so you can possibly see 5 District champs from 1 defunct Catholic Conference, that will not go over too well. In Region 5 you could see 4 CLE area teams driving back and forth to Stow to sort things out, it will probably end up being NDCL and Lake Catholic for the Region 5 title with NDCL and Caroline Jurevicious as the chalk . And then to rub salt into the wound they place the best of the lot, Gilmour with multiple NCAA D I players, into Region 7 so in all likely hood there could be a NCL reunion for the state finals.

For Div III I am hearing much about Huron and their height, not sure how they will do in the tourney as their schedule was not great and in their toughest games, (Gilmour, Magnificat, and St. Joseph Academy) they went 1-2 were shut out in the two they lost.

Div IV

What's the lookout for Independence in DIII? 4th consecutive trip to State in the making?

Ok. About to become slightly more interesting this Saturday in D1 SW Ohio.

Ursuline vs Lebanon (Ursuline in 5)
St Ursula vs Turpin (Ursula in 4)
MND vs Centerville (MND in 3)
Seton vs Northmont/Bellbrook (Seton in 3)

Turpin is really solid imo but not sure they can beat St. Ursula. Seton has some serious talent and outstanding Coaching! Good luck to all the local teams that remain.

I'm definitely looking forward to Ursuline vs. Lebanon as well as St. Ursula vs. Turpin. I feel like the SUA/Turpin match will go to 5 as well. Turpin has won 11 matches in a row (albeit in a weaker conference) and while they lost to SUA during the regular season I think this match will be a great one.

True. Lebanon won the ECC in their first yr. Turpin I think has pretty good depth. Seton has had a remarkable season and I certainly hope it continues.

As called out by TriangleMan on another thread the State semis and finals have been moved from Nutter to a HS gym, Vandalia. From what I understand it is a big HS gym but still not a College arena. Many girls have told me that Nutter is the 1st time they have played in an arena and there is a different depth perception for them, especially on serve receive, and there is usually an adjustment period for the 1st set. Could actually make for better play in the long run.

There was a NEO Div II upset, Holy Name got bounced by Hoban. Holy Name plays in a week conference so the record probably did not reflect the actual strength of the team.

It's interesting you say this. I was thinking last evening when I saw the GGCL sweep SW Ohio...Is there a girls sport in Ohio that is dominated more by private schools than volleyball? Anyone have a theory as to why?

Cincy CYO volleyball[over 300 teams and 2500+ girls] might be a reason
