With the State Poll out we can guess the matchups for the Centerville Elite on Saturday.

1. Elder vs. 8. Centerville
2. St Xavier vs. 7. Beavercreek
3. Hilliard Darby vs. 6. Westerville South
4. Archbishop Moeller vs. 5. St Ignatius

Who you got? Best Quarterfinal matchup? Which top 4 seed gets beat in Round 1?

Assuming those are the matchups. Here are my predictions (Keep in mind I've been way wrong on my two picks thus far this year):

Elder over Centerville in 4
St Xavier over Beavercreek in 5
Darby over WS in 3
Moeller over Ignatius in 4

Elder over Moeller in 4
Darby over X in 3

Ignatius over Centerville in 4
WS over Beavercreek in 3

1st Place Match
Darby over Elder in 5

3rd Place Match
X over Moeller in 4

5th Place Match
WS over Ignatius in 5

7th Place Match
Centerville over Beavercreek in 4

I'll take

Elder over Centerville in 4

Moeller over Ignatius in 5

Elder over Moeller in 4
Darby over X in 3

Ignatius over Centerville in 4
WS over Beavercreek in 4

1st Place Match
Darby over Elder in 3

3rd Place Match
Moeller over X in 5

5th Place Match
WS over Ignatius in 5

7th Place Match
Beavercreek over Centerville in 4

So far the predictions seem to pit Darby as the favorite, which is understandable as most years the #1 seed doesn't typically win this tournament.

I think the best/most competitive match of the day will be St X and Darby in the semifinals, though the Bombers should be on upset watch against Beavercreek. Moeller-Ignatius will be the best Quarterfinal Match.

Predictions:
Elder over Centerville in 3
St X over Beavercreek in 4
Darby over Westerville South in 4
Moeller over St Ignatius in 4

Moeller over Elder in 4
Darby over St X in 5

Westerville South over Beavercreek in 5
St Ignatius over Centerville in 3

1st Place - Moeller over Darby in 5
3rd Place - Elder over St X in 4
5th Place - St Ignatius over Westerville South in 4
7th Place - Beavercreek over Centerville in 4

Could be way off but im going with:

Elder over Centerville in 3
St Xavier over Beavercreek in 4
Darby over WS in 4
Moeller over Ignatius in 4

Elder over Moeller in 5
Darby over X in 4

Ignatius over Centerville in 3
WS over Beavercreek in 4

1st Place Match
Darby over Elder in 3

3rd Place Match
X over Moeller in 5

5th Place Match
WS over Ignatius in 4

7th Place Match
Beavercreek over Centerville in 3

I think all of the first round matches will be great except Elder/ Centerville.

Let's see if Iggy can make another splash? Moeller better be ready to play!

Holy cow! X has to have the edge in the Finals if only that they didn't have to play that extra set in the Semifinals.

Elder wins championship in 4 to St x
Darby takes a third place sweep over Moe
Westerville South finishes fifth beating Iggy in 4
Beaver creek & Centerville are going to 5 to avoid last place

Seems like the state rankings were pretty dead on this past week. Only change being the flip between WS and Ignatius.

Anyone there that can provide details on who played well, best players, etc?

They sure were. This Saturday Darby vs Elder at Darby. Should be another great match up.

The new poll should be as followed

1. Elder - Only loss was at Moeller, which looking at Moe now kind of seems like a fluke.

2. St. X - Only 2 losses, both to Elder.

3. Darby - Only in-state loss to St. X and a very early out-of-state loss to Moe. Has swept Moe twice within a week span since then

4. Westerville South - Total of 3 losses thus far. Twice to Darby and 1 very early loss to Elder. Great wins over Moeller, Iggy, and BC

5. Moeller - 7 losses on the season. I don't see them getting out of the region.

6. St. Ignatius - Total of 3 losses thus far. St. X, Moeller, and Westerville South.

7. Beavercreek - 5 losses on the season. Elder, Hoban, Iggy, X, and Westerville South. I think they're in trouble come tournament time. They don't have a quality win on their schedule - just mostly mediocre teams like Stow, Northmont, Centerville, & Walsh. I don't see them moving past the first round seeing as they'll most likely play St. X right away. Granted BC took X to 5 in the Elite tournament this past weekend, but I rest my case.

I was surprised that Centerville played some of these top teams as tight as they did. Even getting swept by Elder they went 25-23 and 26-24 in the first two games. They also took a set from Iggy and two sets from Beavercreek.

- Wyatt Albers played exceptionally well for Elder. A lot of teams struggled with his serve and he was a force all around. Klusman and Witte played to their usual levels, but Wyatt's been as important to their success as anyone.

- Ben Pung was a huge liability in serve receive against Beavercreek, who effectively picked on him all match. He redeemed himself by carrying X through most of the Darby match before running out of gas in the finals. His serve was inconsistent enough all day that he was routinely being taken out for a serving specialist and his defense was picked on in the back row. If his back row attacks weren't so vital to X's offense, he may start getting DS'ed out of the back row. Henry Huber had 3-4 of the best digs of the tournament, all against Darby.

- Both Darby's middles proved to be about as close to unstoppable as one could imagine. No team was able to put up a block on either one and their kill % was through the roof. They simply run too fast for any opposing block to react. Outside of a few spectacular Huber open-net digs, I didn't see them hit a quick set all day that didn't go for a kill.

- Chris Kiser took over for Moeller on multiple occasions, particularly vs. Elder. Their blocking all across the front net is pretty close to non-existent, but their back row defense (in particular, Everly and Bowles) is good enough to compensate against most teams.

- Centerville goes from "could potentially upset a big 3 team" to "the worst seed in the tournament" based on where Ben Chico is in their rotation. When he's in the front row, they can beat a lot of teams. When he rotates to the back, they don't have the firepower to put many balls away.
