Winter Club Season 2015

Air City 17 looks to be having the "best" tournament of any Ohio team thus far, with Vanguard 18-1 and Cinci Attack 18-1 right behind.

Air City 17-1 declining their bid is even more of a head scratcher now that they are in position to be offered a bid for the second tournament in a row.
Does anyone know the standouts on this Air City team?

Congrats to attack 18's on earning on Open Bid!

Vanguard 18's have the match of the tourney. Losing to eventual champs SP Mizuno
26-24, 23-25, 14-16

Final Results from St. Louis in 18's

3: VG - 1
5: ATT - 1
9: AC - 1
26: VG -2
29: ATT - 2
37: Thunder
41: ATT -3
43: Elite
45: AC-2

Sets up a great OVR champ, this weekend between 3 top ten teams in VG, AC, and ATT

I looked at the teams attending OVRs this weekend and did not see the top 18s or 16s teams for Air City in there.. Anyone know what is up with that?

I heard the snow this past weekend led to only 10 of the 19 teams in 18U playing at regionals.

Does anyone know results? they aren't on OVR's site yet.

Too bad, because as others said, would have been a good tournament.

Sad - teams who had to travel the furthest still made the trip. Those with the tournament in their backyard stayed home.

The ovr won't keep running tournaments with turnouts like these.

Urbana is nobodies "backyard"
If the OVR really cared about boys volleyball they wouldn't hold the championships in the middle of nowhere...

They should've put in a delay on Friday night. They didn't make the decision to delay the tournament until the teams who didn't spend the night (Attack, Vanguard, Elite, etc.) were already attempting to drive...

The teams who stayed in hotels Friday night were already there (Ignite, BVP, etc.)

Cincinnati and Columbus teams who travel to Urbana morning of couldn't make it - not because they don't want to play. It was a safety issue obviously.

OVR should have been more prepared and a had a better plan. The delay was too late for teams driving, most likely.

Yea I'm not entirely sure why it was ever a good idea to post the original delay at 6am when teams are getting ready to leave or were on their way. I am not sure why they decided to give the second update at an hour and a half later, when it would have taken teams like Vanguard, Elite, and Attack hours to get there. I'm with cadf, STUPID

Urbana is a helluva lost closer to the hotbed that is boys volleyball in Ohio (Columbus/Dayton/Cincy).

The OVR held Winterfest and Boys' Championships at the convention center in Columbus....and then everybody quit coming...they couldn't fill a 3 court tournament....and that's when Pittsburgh would send all of their teams.

Yes, The OVR and boys volleyball had a major falling out a few years back. They were unwilling to work with the boys clubs to lower the fees for registration and tournament sanctioning. The clubs wanted to reduce the costs for boys to play so that they could raise participation. The OVR wouldn't budge.
So, the main clubs only registered their national teams, and formed a network operating under the AAU sanctioning format for all other teams.

Really helped to hold down costs and increase number of boys playing.

Then OVR and Ohio Boys mended the fences. For the past few years, the OVR number of registered boys is highest ever.

This past weekend they simply dropped the ball on the announcement.

The reason the numbers have been up the past 2 years is because of Columbus hosting BJNC. Since you have to be in good standing within your region to attend BJNC, they came back. We will see next year if the teams are truly committed.

Has zero to do with that.
The clubs in question came back to OVR before Columbus was named as a site for BJN.
The state wide numbers are also up because of a partnership between the OVR and the North Region high school association getting a Fall league together.

The pairing of OVR and Ohio Boys HS should keep this relationship going in the right direction. Seems like the OVR is committed to trying to hold the December showcase event again, and that was a first class tournament.
