Nike cross vs. Footlocker

Dress Warm.

Woodridge and Wal$h have had both a boy and girl Footlocker qualifier.
What other schools have done that?

Dublin Coffman had JJ White who was 3rd (in 1992 when Ohio had 4 in the top 10) and Marni Kruppa who finished 8th.

I also believe that three of the four Ohio boys who qualified in 1992 also qualified in 1991.

Brian Hesson qualified for three years and was an All American all three years: 15th in 1990, 3rd in 1991, and 8th in 1992.

Josh Ritchie was an All American for both years that he qualified: 8th in 1991 and 5th in 1992.

J.J. White qualified in 1991 and finished 21st, was an All American in 1992 finishing 3rd.

I saw Kristy Orre run in 1984, was always impressed with her and used to think she was the best female runner in Ohio that year. When I went back to check the 1984 National results I was floored to see that Roger Bacon's Michelle Sica ran a 17:42.8 for ninth place while Orre ran 18:06.7 for 19th place. I knew Sica was good but never knew she had run that fast.

Orre was sick that fall but in the spring (1985) she was the #1 U.S. girl on the Junior team that competed internationally and that fall was the U.S. Junior Cross Country Champion.

And last, but not least add:

Jason Rexing, Pickerington, 12th, 1993

Done. Added.

I still remember 1994 track where Rexing dropped out of the 1600 at state and let it be known that he was out to get Bockenstette in the 3200 after Bockenstette beat him in cross country. What surprised me was that after winning the 1600, Bockenstette came back in 95 degree heat to destroy Rexing in the 3200 -9:07 to 9:17. Bockenstette said afterwards that he usually can hear people coming up behind him, but because of the crowd noise he couldn't which was why he ran like he did at the end. Added pressure was put on him he says when Ron Russo came up and told Frank that if Doug won the 3200, La Salle would win the state team title.

I have run that course a couple times, and it's a bear. The first 1/2 mile is uphill, and it generally doesn't get much easier after that. Thanksgiving weekend weather near the shores of Lake Michigan generally makes for a sloppy course, but your daughter excelled in those conditions this season.

I was able to watch and run the course last year and I do agree that the first 1/2 mile is a bear. a gradual incline until you make the turn at the road, but from there to about half way is all downhill back to the starting area.. The last half is up and down the whole way but is still very fast because of the hard dirt terrain. Overall, I would have to put it as a top 5 courses i've personally ever ran at (not in the race, just ran it for fun the night before hand). The atmosphere is only topped by few places. The running fans, coaches, parents, students, and Yappi's of the Midwest definately have something about them, it makes surreal. I know some kids who ran last year in the race in the brutally negative temp w/ wind chill and they stated how they honestly didnt feel the cold until the end and that the race went by so fast because even though they were running to qualify, they had the time of their lives and never was w/o support the whole way. That shows how dedicated the MW fans are..

Lancer,

Since the rest of the kids are sorted by high school, Mike Beetler ran for Randy Foster at Firelands - not here at Amherst. Part of their school system has Amherst mailing addresses, which is why it showed up as his hometown on the Footlocker list.

Midwest Footlocker shows a total of only 43 runners (guys and girls) registered/entered for next Saturday's race. 43 runners, as compared to years past, is a dismal turnout from Ohio. I'm hoping there is a surge of entries over the next three days from Ohio. Hopefully we don't have our best talent sitting at home. If you can find a way to Wisconsin-make the trip and run.

There are currently 35 guys and 11 girls from Ohio registered for Footlocker:

The following is a list of the number of Ohio boys finishers at Footlocker regional since 1997:

1997 - 65
1998 - 60
1999 - 45
2000 - 41
2001 - 48
2002 - 52
2003 - 41
2004 - 33
2005 - 55
2006 - 26
2007 - 30
2008 - 34
2009 - 22
2010 - 15

Certainly a downward trend, and even more understandable with Nike entering the picture in 2007. If anyone has full midwest Footlocker regional results prior to 1997, please PM me (I'm always looking to add to the collection...).

I had '96 results, but I don't know what I did with them.

My school used to take a bunch of kids to Kenosha from about '93 to '99 and then again in '05 (all ran in the open races). A lot of things were different back then; especially with regards to liabilities, chaperones, and the overall ability of people in charge of the trip to give up their holiday weekend instead of spending it with their family. Also, gas wasn't over $3 a gallon back then, so making the trip wasn't as costly of a proposition.

Also, a lot more kids at my school were in a position to make the trip back then. Nowadays, most of my school's runners also play winter sports, so they can't leave town for the weekend when they have basketball, bowling, or swimming practices.

I've done some digging and can't find my results from '95 and '96, but I did find complete boys results from '94.

We had 47 Ohio boys run the seeded race in '94.

Congrats to Ryan Polman for his 8th place finish in 1520, he will represent Ohio at Footlocker Nationals!!:thumb:
