Interested to see Trotwood and TCC if they happen to match up again. Feel like we finally got over the hump beating them last year, but considering they gave us hell for so many years, it would be interesting to see how we do after finally having some success against them.

I think it would be interesting to see a rematch of TCC and Canfield for the state title.

Akron East...not getting the love they deserve. Beat North Canton Hoover, Dover, and close loss to Massillon Jackson. Speed, size, and as much talent as anyone in DIII (especially outside the top 3 -Trotwood, Hartley, and TCC-).They should roll into the playoffs with big wins vs Buchtel and Howland. It will be interesting to see how Hartley does against North Canton Hoover.

Sandusky may have a say. Blue Streak Football looks to be back.

Don't have much background info on them. What do they look like in comparison to TCC this year? (i.e. Talent, Size, Strength of Schedule etc.) And at which part of the playoffs would the two teams meet?

Alter has the name, but Bellefontaine has the game this year. I have seen both play this year and I do believe the Chieftans are better.

2005, Canfield posters bragged of the best defense in the state and Central Catholic hung 30+ on them on a field of ice.

Toledo Central Catholic beat Canfield by one or two points for the the 2005 Division two state championship.
TCC went 14-1, Canfield went 14-1
Dane Sanzenbacher had several key plays for TCC. I was at the game and I also saw it on tv later and from what I saw the one official made a lot of calls in favor of TCC. He gave TCC forward progress out of the end zone 3 plays in a row when they should have actually safeties not to mention a hold in the end zone on the one play but it is easily possible the officials just didn't see that but it was clear he never got out of the end zone on those 3 plays when they gave TCC forward progress to the 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
Sean Baker (later played FS for the Atlanta Falcons) was the key player for Canfield after Angelo Babarro (starting HB & DB) and Frankie Ross (starting QB) both were injured. Babarro was injured after scoring a record kick off return for a TD. TCC won the game on a hook and ladder play to Dane though from the TV replay it may have barely been an illegal forward pass.
Regardless it was still a great game by both teams. The game was played at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

and the majority of yappi posters remain unimpressed with toledo central catholic's success in division 2, let alone division 3. canfield's state runner up team that year was more impressive than central catholic's aau team.

Canfield beat Beechcroft 28-0 week 11
Watterson 7-0 week 12
Louisville 7-0 week 13
Tallmadge 17-7 week 14
During the regular season the varsity defense only allowed maybe 2 or 3 TDs all year.
The main reason TCC was able to score so easily is Canfield had injuries to 4 or 5 key players on defense and just didn't have guys of that calliber to replace them. Only maybe a team like St. Xavier, St. Ignatius or St. Edward would have that type of depth.
Point is that a defense could have been really good but without the best players it isn't going to be anywhere near as good and that was the case in the state championship.

Babarro was far and away Canfield's best player that year. Canfield was leading 14-3 When he got hurt. Canfield was a different team without him. If he had gotten hurt the week before against Tallmadge, it would have been Tallmadge playing TCC. He was dominating in that game too.

Sorry but we're still impressed. Their game against Athens was an offensive explosion on both sides. That's when last years Mr. Football made a name for himself as a freshman.

And I am sure that the majority of the team attended mass to celebrate.

Not to confuse your narrative with facts, but Central Catholic QB slipped and fell in the endzone on third down resulting in a safety. Sorry, facts is facts.

Warren was a sophomore that year Central had 3 1000 yard rushers that year. Winters, the QB, Warren, a sophomore, and Wade, a junior. The best high school game I have ever seen.

The game was on a Thursday night so the celebratory Mass was the following week.

That hook and ladder was at the end of the 2nd quarter. Plenty of football was played after that. As for it being illegal, Dane was behind the receiver and caught the pitch from the receiver.

No the qb was very close to crossing the line of scrimmage when he threw the initial pass. And you were right about that safety though, my apologies. But the supposed fumble by the QB at the goal line should have been ruled a touchdown. Regardless this was over 10 years ago, lets concentrate on this year now.

Ah, I didnt realize that. You're right though. It was 12 years ago. Did Barbaro play in college? He was running ragged over Central up until he got hurt.

He played TB for Villanova but Sean Baker played FS for Ball State and went on to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons.
