Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament

This is always a special tournament, Josh Hephner was an outstanding wrestler for Fitch High School who was coming off a stellar sophomore season just missing getting to state and unfortunately his life was cut short in an automobile accident. The Austintown community really comes together for this event and I always consider it an honor to be there. If you have a fallen wrestler from your school and want to list him on this thread please do also curious as to all the memorial tournaments out there so please list on here. What teams are all going to be there this year?

I always love this tournament! Mrs Hephner is a special lady and not only is the wrestling great, the food is 1st class! Walleye sandwiches at a wrestling tourney.

teams I have schedules for that are attending

Akron Springfield, Tallmadge, Ravenna, SVSM, Marlington. Poland. Southeast, Hubbard; Fitch, Boardman. I am pretty sure returning champion Uniontown Lake and Massillon Jackson are there also.

Lake, Jackson and Louisville always attend and I believe South will be there this year.

Also one of my favorites. All wrestlers get at least four matches, great competition, and the Falcon Athletic Department always does something special to celebrate the lives of Josh Hephner and tournament founder John Moritz.

Got a timetable for this one?

Would seem that Uniontown Lake and SVSM are the favorites in the team race, with Lancaster and Willoughby South having a peripheral role in things.

Pool to bracket
I would think Lake and SVSM are favorites also, bucksman (didn't get a chance to chat at Top Gun, maybe this weekend?).

I'm glad Dman started this thread and also was able to list the teams. This is a great tournament but for some reason the Fitch folks don't use the internet to build interest in the tournament. Knowing what teams are coming and figuring out what ranked wrestlers might be meeting helps draw people out to the tournament.

I'm a grandmother from Lancaster. This will be my 3rd trip to the Hephner Memorial (my grandson is a jr.). I compare every tournament's concessions with this, the top! But my very favorite thing is meeting Mrs. Hephner and each year hearing several of our boys talk about her. They are so excited when she takes a moment to personally speak to them. And the wrestling is so awesome. I run around trying to take pictures of our kids and can always get up close to the mat. The competition is amazing. But the crowd is generally friendly. It can get a bit intense at the finals, but not over the top.

I tell anyone who will listen about this tournament and Mrs. Hephner.

The funny thing is... I can tell you a lot about this tournament. But I don't remember where my grandson placed the last two years. LOL I remember he was on the front mats in the finals both years... does that count?

I enjoy the high level of competition at the Top Gun, however Fails Gymnasium is not a very good place to watch a wrestling tournament. Where as the Hephner Tournament is very fan friendly with with some pretty good competition.

Dman,
Can you post the final results after they are done? I have to work and I love this tournament but getting results online is not one of its strongest assets.

Might be kind of tough when you don't know how they will be bracketed.

Only those that have been there can appreciate your humor. Of course you know........about 5 minutes before the quarter finals are to start.

There is no website. The only results you will get will come from people posting on Yappi.
