Article: Bellbrook 58 Clinton Massie 47

In spite of the loss through graduation of standouts Leisha Crawford (now playing at Clarion) and Shelby Sigman (now playing at Capital), the Bellbrook Lady Golden Eagles don’t appear to be resting on the laurels of their Final Four appearance last season.

The Eagles put together a complete game against a strong Clinton Massie team tonight, posting a 58-47 victory on their home court. Leading scorers for Bellbrook were G Etter with 17, including 6 fourth quarter free throws to help seal the win, and Erin Dorn with 16. Strong inside play by Chea Taylor, Emily Smith, and Kelly Neumann helped to lessen the impact of Massie’s standout Sydney Brackemyre, who scored 17 but never seemed to hit her stride. In spite of that, Brackemyre showed that she is a force to be reckoned with in Ohio basketball, with at least 4 clean blocks and strong play inside. She left the game with 2 minutes left with an apparent injury or illness.

Massie’s leading scorer was Kasey Uetrecht with 18 hard-earned points, mostly midrange jumpers and several putbacks. One key to the Bellbrook victory was shutting down Mary Moyer, who did not score and fouled out with 3 minutes left in the game.

BELLBROOK 16 14 14 14 58
CLINTON MASSIE 8 11 13 15 47

B: G Etter 17, Dorn 16, Taylor 9, Smith 7, C Etter 3, Songer 3, Hofacker 2, Neumann 1

CM: Uetrecht 18, Brackemyre 17, Santoro 4, Fair 3, Monnin 2, Smith 3

3-pts: B 7 (Dorn 3, G Etter, C Etter, Songer, Smith); CM 1 (Smith)

Brackemyre was suffering through whiplash the entire game. I would say she put in a great effort tonight considering her ailment.

Completely agree. It was obvious that she was not 100% physically, and she still dominated play for a big chunk of the game. She is the best player I have seen in quite a while. Best of luck to her this season!

Bellbrook

My hats off to a GREAT Bellbrook team. A group of talented girls on the court and a class act off. The players and coaches all stopped by after the game to see how Sydney was doing and wish her well. THANK YOU and good luck this season!
