I don't have an issue with giving him chance, I just have an issue with throwing a bunch of money at him when he's mostly an unknown. Let the Redskins do that.
I don't advocate spending a ton of money on him either. I just think he's pretty good
They can pursue him, but once the Redskins get involved, they might as well forget it. Now that Al Davis is gone, Snyder might be the worst owner in the league. The guy in Cincinnati is up there, too.
If they draft Blackmon then McCoy or whoever their QB is next year has no more room to complain about not having weapons. A combo of Blackmon and Little has a ton of potential if they have someone to throw them the ball.
If the Oline comes back to it's 2010 level, Hillis comes back to his 2010 level (assuming he's brought back), Little continues to develop, they draft Blackmon, and hire an OC that will get Watson AND Moore involved, then I think it would be fair to start judging McCoy as the QB. However, I don't see the Browns not taking RGIII.

The O-Line will be BETTER than it's 2010 level, I doubt Hillis is back and I certainly don't believe McCoy will be the starter.
Of the 32 starting Qb's in the league, 20 were taken in the first round. Of the top 15 passers in the league, 10 were taken in the first round. Of the 12 playoff QB's, 8 were taken in the first round.
The most notable non-first round QB's are Brady (6th round), Brees (2nd), Romo (undrafted), and Shaub (3rd).
Hmm I always thought flacco was 2nd round. Shows what I know
After RGIII with the first pick, our next most pressing needs are at WR, LB, DB, and RT. HAVE to get an offensive playmaker either via free agency or draft. Need a starting corner so we can move Sheldon Brown over to safety. Desperately need some LBs as well.

If they get a pass rush, I think Skrine/Patterson will be fine at corner. Pressure the passer with that front 4 and it makes the defensive backfields job MUCH easier. Agree on Brown to safety.
Didn't say anything about changing the coaches. Just said they needed a greater sense of urgency (by using free agency). After seeing three other teams in this division make the playoffs, one would think they would realize that.
A friend of mine went to HS with Kevin Colbert, the Pittsburgh GM. Several years ago I went with him when Colbert invited him to check out their new practice facility, which is great. Afterwards we went to lunch. We had a chance to talk to him about being a NFL GM. I asked him why are the Steelers so successful ... His reply was "because we have a good team, not just great individuals." He actually joked about teams who think they can buy a championship (the Redskins)... He said the key was to pay a player his worth or not over pay at one position which will cause the team to be weak somewhere else. He said that free agents are fools gold because you almost always over pay for them. You are better off letting them go and getting two good players for the same price. The only way they sign FAs are if they think they are under the radar and can get them at a reasonable price. That is the model the Browns need to follow ... It allows you to have sustained success. I do think the Browns could sign some free agents, just don't break the bank to do so ... the draft is the main way to build the team. Heckert has done a good job of drafting so far, let's see what happens when he has another draft or two.

Who said anything about "breaking the bank" on free agents? If they could get 2-4 starter quality free agents I'd be fine with that. I'm not saying go get Mario Williams or Matt Forte.
What the Eagles did this past season was batsh#t crazy. "Wanna play for the Dream Team? Here's your contract. How much you want?" Stupid.
They are going to have between $33-50 million to spend and they HAVE to spend it. Might as well go after a few young (25-26 years old) potential starters who have just made it through their rookie contract.
I think the Browns trade their first pick just like they did last year. Redskins will give us the farm.
I hope not. The Browns philosophy about trading back because they need bodies is wrong. Bill Belichick can do that because the foundation of his team is in place, especially at QB.
The Browns need impact players who can be stars. You build the team around them, you don't just keep drafting bodies until you have a team full of average NFL starters. The Lions are a great example of a team that took the next leap, because they hit on a few impact players...Calvin Johnson, Stafford, Suh...that are difference-makers. It makes their average players seem a lot better, and they can just keep adding pieces and get better as a team.
You don't build your depth with high first round draft picks when you're a losing team. You draft the impact players who will be the stars of your team and lift it out of the bottom of the NFL.
That is too much to give up ... the Rams want Blackmon or Kalil and they won't get either if they trade with the Redskins or Miami. The Browns need to keep both picks.

Actually the #2 equals the value of #4 & #22 according to the old draft chart so it isn't too much to give up. If Holmgren/Heckert feel he's the future, which I'm skeptical they will, it's worth it.
All of which brings us to the elephant in the room in Atlanta's 2011 post-mortem of pigskin: Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan simply can't get it done.
He's consistently had trouble getting the ball downfield throughout his career, and has now played poorly in three straight playoff games. In fact, Ryan has statistically stagnated somewhere well below mediocre in his three postseason games, all losses: 72.8 rating in the 2008 playoffs; 69.0 rating in the 2010 playoffs; and 71.1 rating here in the 2011 playoffs.
t doesn't matter how many so-called "weapons" you put around a quarterback. The Shiny Hood Ornament Man Law tells us that quarterbacks make wide receivers, not the other way around. And right now we have four years of evidence saying that Ryan is not good enough to make his receivers better.
In either case, executives and coaches who are unaware of the Shiny Hood Ornament Man Law are like physicists are unaware of Newton's Laws of Motion. They have no business being in the field and need to find another line of work.
No way in heck am I trading 22 to move up 2 spots for RG3. Not worth the cost. Luck will go 1 and Kalil will go 2 or 3. Take whoever falls between RG3 and Blackmon. Then get Ryan T. later if you miss out on RG3.
