They are very deep at the lower weights. Nick Tavanello is heavy weight now. Squire, Baughman and many openings.

We'll see what they got when they come to the Moeller super duals.

Padua Preview

Did anyone go to Padua for the preview? Who was in the line up? How did Wadsworth do?

Wadsworth has Squire (132) and Tavanello (285); Squire is 3-2-2 at state, Tavanello 3-1-1. Two other returning SQ's in Brandon Jones (120) and Aaron Warstler (126). State alterates in Chrsitian Baughman (138/145) and CJ Edwards (152/160).

Great news...I was hoping Zollinger would find a spot in the line up this year. Any other results? Were Jones, Warstler, and Squire all in the line up?

All three wrestled. I hesitate to mention results that I am not 100% certain of.

Wadsworth didn't have their complete line-up due to football and illness, alot of shuffling around, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see some changes. What I know- 106 undecided between 2-3 freshmen, then Schleigh, Zollinger, Jones, Squire, Warstler, Baughman,Gordon, didn't recognize the next 6 weights.

Where will Cj Edwards be this year? Saw him in street clothes on friday is that due to football? Didnt he beat Gordon last year in the wrestle off before sectionals? If so will he wrestle 52 n bump Gordon up to 60?

I wonder if Cart or Brandenburg will be able to squeeze in to the lin up somewhere. There is a serious log-jam of good wrestlers between 120 - 145. Seems like there will be some really talented kids on the outside looking in for the low-middle weights. Then things get really thin in the upper weights. Wow..I did realize how bad the new weight classes could hurt the Grizzlies.

You will not see Tav or Edwards or any other football players until Iron Man. Centea graduated. Was told Cart is not yet eligible after his transfer. Don't know Leemaster.

Why is that? I would understand if it's for cert. reasons, but Tav is a HWT. and shouldn't have to worry about wgt. It could be a good warmup for Ironman?

Long football season ended on 11/19 in the final 8. 2 weeks off to get into wrestling shape is too risky to satisfy our shelfish desire to see Wadsworth at full strength. That being said Ironman being only 1 more week is cutting it close enough but more prestigious and more grueling than Moeller Duals. Moeller will need to win by more than 10 to claim a clear victory over a short handed Wadsworth Team.

I see it hard to believe that a short handed Wadsworth team will get by a solid Mason team. The two teams will most likely meet in the semi's like last year. IF Wadsworth sneaks by Mason then Moe should win the finals easily, especially if Ward wins another close one with Squire.

I know there is another thread out there for the Moeller duals Saturday but I can't find it anymore. I think a team a lot are over looking is Father Ryan. They have 3 of the top wrestlers in their respective weight classes. Hooker is a 2 time Tennessee state champion and Mosely is a multiple time runner up. They are much improved from last year. They just returned from a dual tournament in Alabama where the closest dual was a 20 point spread.

With Wadsworth missing 4 of their top wresters, I also doubt they will get past Mason.

As stated previously, football players just finished regional play offs, 1 week break in between and just started practice. All have passed hydration. Jones will also not be at Moeller due to flu, along with one other i can't remember.

I think they mean the Wadsworth football players season just ended. Several kids are still trying to make weight, or get healthy after a long football season. Plus there is a difference between football shape, and wrestling shape.

Moeller's season ended the same weekend as Wadsworth's. That being said it comes back to the old saying: "If Johnny jumped off a cliff would you also jump off a cliff?" What Wadsworth coaches and wrestlers decide is best for their team may not be what Moeller decides for theirs. While the meet is a nice meet and we wish all wrestlers would be healthy coming in and it's the 1st in a long off season it really means nothing in the end. After the meet we can all start acting like Browns and Bengal fans and play 3 months of coulda woulda shoulda's.

As for Squires / Ward when 2 defensive minded stalwarts who are also very offensively cautious when matched with close talent you will have the close matches they have had each time with either one winning at any time. Joey could win the next 3 and Kaegan the 3 after that. The state match reminded me of Big brother Brad losing the Horner in the finals after winning the pre state match ups.
