No coaches will be fired. APS does not fire coaches for performance so no need to discuss that unless someone is retiring cough cough......Yost.
It looks to be a two horse race next year with buchtel and firestone. Buchtel has a ton of young talent and finally have some young lineman with size. Firestone has a pretty good frosh and soph class too but they have yet to show they can beat the griffs. Kenmore is a wild card and could be relevant if there team stays together. It will be business as usual with by buchtel the clear cut favorite and then everybody else. From what I've seen and heard buchtel shouldn't lose another city game in the forseeable future with the talent they have and the talent that is on the way from middle.school.
With that said this season proved there is a ton of talent in the city at all the.schools. the most important thing this offseason is that each school commits to their offseason lifting and conditioning programs. We need to look at the beating programs outside of the city. This year hopefully there is no more bickering between coaches and everyone just commits to getting better
I think this is the true question that holds any weight to this conversation. We have seen what Yost, Flossie, Sax, and Beasley can do for years. There is no change in the systems and what they have done they will always do. Although he has had success, Buchtel is guranteed to at least go 6-4 every season from now until the end of time. The qusetion is will he be able to break through just being a "City Power". The jury is still out on Kenmore. North is definately in a uphill battle, I hope they can turn it around. Bottom line I believe that there are some talented young coaches out ther. However, with the satisfaction of mediocrity we will never know.
All good points but I think it will be another year where the off season will be wilder than the season. Nothing happening now, but it will. Just think of the trouble that was brewing last year at this time and no one knew about it.
I think there can be anywhere between 1 & 2 coaches leaving. Beasely for sure, and possibly Flossie. Yost will at Ellet until he dies. Sax not sure if he wants to return for another year.

This would be intersting. If these coaches left Flossie, Beasley, and Sax, who would be next in line?
I can safely tell of you that Coach Sax is returning to the sidelines next season. So that can be put to rest. There will probably be some changes made to the staff because of retirements and other things. But Coach Sax will be back.
What is crazy about the APS is that they do no evaluation in these programs. Like I said before I'm sure there are some coaches out there that are a better fit for these teams. For example the magic that Kenmore found this year. However, the satisfaction with mediocrity from the city is astounding. The fact that a Head Coaches duties is to just keep a ship a float, is ludicrous. Records mean nothing, getting kids into college is also irrelevant, anything short of a Claude Brown incident, Head Coaching in the Akron public schools is a lifetime position.
Considering the resources that the city gives their programs it is a wonder that any of them can compete. Consider that there are only 4 total payed assistants on the coaching staffs. Only 4!!!! It's not about keeping the ship afloat but more about getting the most out of nothing.
Here some of the obsticles they face in the city.
No Budget: The entire budget is from fund raising. Most programs have a budget they supplement through fund raising. Not is the city, its all the budget.
Money Games: Every team in the city travel to pay for the athletic programs of their school. Schools like Buchtel and Firestone get stuck playing front loaded schedules they struggle to compete with. Schools like Kenmore get a soft out of ACS schedule until they win a few games and they will soon be in the same position as Firestone and Buchtel.
No Staff Budget: See above.
Fields: It is a shame 4 schools have no home field at all but there are worse issues than that. Kenmore's field is awful and Buchtel hasn't played on theirs in two years. The practice fields and locker facilities for most of the schools are pathetic.
Community support is the major force behind these programs and it shows. We all know about the support Ellet gives its program but there is very good support in Kenmore. Say what you will about behavior and academics at Buchtel they have huge support in their community. East......none what so ever. Shows doesn't it?

This is a great quote. However, I feel that alot of the issues you have brought up can be solved by putting a good, competitive team on the field. Most, of these communities will get behind a winning team. Also, when a team wins then ticket sales go up, hence more money for the program. This is what should be looked at by APS. Most os the programs in the city servive strictly on ticket sales. If you don't put a winning product on the field then people won't pay (ask the Cavs, and the Browns)
My predictions for 2012 in APS/City Series football:
1. APS athletic administration will have Stevie Wonder-like vision on all of the shady stuff going on right under their noses.
2. Teams will be forced to play on fields that double as tractor pull mud pits.
3. Ricky Powers' wife will be a team manager so that she can have greater access to the sidelines.
4. An Akron councilman will arrange to get his child a fifth year of eligibility and transfer him to yet another school to get him more exposure.
5. An aging coach will return to the Ellet sidelines in embarassingly tight and short coaching trunks.
6. Tim Flossie will be accused of having a potty mouth.
7. Infocision Stadium will report the first ever negative number attendance figure for a game after the East- North matchup.
8. The Kenmore Koney will remain the primary reason to go to a Kenmore game, but now the football won't cause you to upchuck it.

This post has had the best replies I have seen in a long time!!!! PLEASE KEEP IT COMING!!!!
Has anyone heard what is going on at East? I have heard from numerous people that Beasley was let go (or fired) of his head coaching position.
It's true but Beasley is fighting it. I have also heard rumors that Sax will not be on the sidelines as Garfield HC next season. Anyone hear anything about that?
I have heard that Coach Beasley's position is not safe. The rumor out there is that his principle wants him out. Had not heard anything about Coach Sax but I have heard things for the past couple years.

Principal's want coaches that hold the kids accountable at school and at practice as well as during games. This has been a problem at East since Coach Petella retired. This has been a concern at Hoban with some of the staff too. Thus changes are made.

I'm not saying she is wrong. East's program has been a mess for sometime and I think she has every right to make the call. More so than the people downtown who don't see the day to day of the program. I was repeating what I know. I have been critical of the East program for years. They do things that reflect coaching like being out of shape.
How many East players got ejected from games this year? I've heard of at least 3. That shows lack of control and should be grounds for dismissal. That combined with averaging 16 penalties agame with probably half personal fouls. Beasley is a great guy dont get me wrong. But he lacks some administrative skills.
I know that there at least 2 coaches that would be interested in applying for the East job, if it was to open up. I have always said that there is a lot of talent on the Eastside of town if you can keep it and eligible is the even bigger issue.
I am hearing that there are players leaving the program, getting ready to transfer to other schools. Word of advice, make sure that you know the rules on transferring. Check with the OHSAA. Print out a copy of the rules and read up on it.

They did last year. No one cared. In an ultimate example of the Akron City Series, "Debo" Brown from North (the big boy they put at runningback) last year was a former East player who was playing for his fourth city team in 4 years. Flossie called foul when kids left his program and he darn near lost his job and teaching license over the ordeal. Beasley keeps his mouth shut, kids come and go, and his program stinks. The APS is a mess and it starts directly with the man standing at the top.
In this Season of Giving, we are seeking donations to buy the following:
* A loose fitting pair of cargo shorts for Joe Yost;
* Sensitivity training sessions for Flossie;
* Marriage counseling for the Powers;
* A red tipped cane and dark glasses for Joe Howard;
* Mouthwash for George Thomas;
* A year's supply of Scott's Turfbuilder for the APS fields.
Won't you please consider supporting this noble cause? Please send your cash and checks to Sal's Barbershop, C/O North Viking.
I sent Joe a baggy pair last x-mas ---- he cut them in two, sewed them up, and made two pairs of huggers!
Make sure you explain to the board that Scott's Turfbuilder is for grass and will not actually magically "build turf"!
And in a final thing, to be nice to GT, I will send him a fathead of Ricky Powers for one side of his room and the St.V Leprechaun for the other, so he no longer needs to go out of the house.

Good point, there needs to be turf to build. We'll try to spring for some grass seed too.

APS would love to have a turf field. Without lights, that is a cost of $800,000 and if you add lights, the total becomes 1.1 mil. Hell, they can't even get a levy passed. How are they going to get 1 mil for football?

No, I meant turf as in grass, not artificial turf. I don't think turfbuilder would work on artificial turf.

See Clark! I told you there would be confusion! And judging by Cruiseman's posts he's brighter than most people downtown. That's not much of a compliment, but there it is.
