McClearn7 is on a distinguished road
Fostoria D-2 District Rankings #2

*=unsure about participation

Some of the weights are bound to be wrong, especially this early in the year. Feel free to let me know if you have any insight or information.

1. Gavin Ritter- Wauseon (5th district)
2. Austin McNamara- Ashland
3. Jimmy Balazy- Padua
4. Juan Perez- Defiance
5. Connor McCarty- Bay
6. Brock Sautter- Maumee
7. Bailey Gibson- Elida
8. Isaiah Gonzalez- Huron

Perez avenged an earlier loss to Connor Eckman with a pin in the first round of the district tournament last year where he also defeated Gibson 9-6 in the consolation rounds, finishing a bout shy of placement as a freshman.

1. Charley Bohls- Napoleon (SQ)
2. Jake Bartinelli- Buckeye (SQ)
3. Clayton Eagle- Ashland (6th district)
4. Connor Eckman- Firelands
5. McKayla Campbell- Wauseon
6. Logan Schoen- Perkins
7. Mike Tusick- Padua
8. Amos Honeycutt- Port Clinton

With Slattman slated to wrestle 120, it looks like Campbell will slot in at 113.
Sheís legit at 106 or 113 and has a very good shot at state qualification.
Campbell won a title at Columbian last year where she majored Bryce Wilkovich 15-7 in the finals.
She also pinned Schoen in the regional finals of the state duals process.

1. Eric Bartos- Buckeye (4th, 7th state)
2. Brad Huhn- Brookside (SQ)
3. Alex Slattman- Wauseon (5th district)
4. Leondre Cooley- Sandusky (6th district, SQ 2015)
5. Austin Selvaggio- Elida
6. Allen Tin- Fairview (6th district 2015)
7. Brad Silliman- Madison Comp.
8. Zane Hull- Napoleon

Last year, Tin pinned district placer Thomas Tinnerillo at Medina over the holidays but was unable to participate in the post season tournament process after placing at the district tournament the previous year.

1. Matthew Taylor- Ashland (6th state)
2. Michael Clark- Buckeye (5th district)
3. Danny Assaf- Defiance (SQ)
4. Tim Tusick- Padua
5. Miguel Morell- Firelands
6. Mike Baumberger/Kaleb Gibson- Madison Comp. (SQ 2014)
7. Mason Satterfield- Perkins*
8. Bryce Quinlan- Toledo C.C.

It sounds like Tusick will be either here or at 132. He defeated Morrell 4-3 in their first dual meet and then pinned him in a later dual.
Heíll be one of the stalwarts for a young but quality Padua team that could contend for a district trophy in 2018.

1. Carson Speelman- Madison Comp. (6th district)
2. Mauricio Barajas- Wauseon (SQ 2015)
3. Caden Blust- Columbian (SQ)
4. Landon Plank- Ashland (5th district)
5. Jayden Hefner- Wapakoneta (5th district, 5th district 2015)
6. Skyler Brown- Napoleon (6th district)
7. Jameson Kilgore- Bellevue
8. Lucas Salmon/Jacob Maslyk Ė Perkins

I bumped Blust up here after it was reported that he would start the season at 132. Iím not sure if he will cut to 126 later, but he could well wind up as the district champ at this weight if he continues to progress.

1. Timothy Grunden- Defiance (3rd state)
2. Leconte Merrell- Madison Comp. (7th state)
3. Hunter Yackee- Wauseon (SQ)
4. Angel Granados- Napoleon (SQ)
5. Sam LoFaso- Padua (6th district)
6. Drew Crabtree- Perkins
7. Treston Francis- Bellevue
8. Jake Visintine- Ashland

I removed Otha Jones from the rankings until I find more definitive evidence that heís wrestling this year.
He could be a state placer this season, or he may be done with the sport. Quite the variance.

1. Sandro Ramirez- Wauseon (2nd, 3rd state)
2. Tyler Copeland- Wapakoneta (3rd, 5th state)
3. Ricky Maffett- Ashland (5th district)
4. Gabe Makin- Elida
5. Luke Larson- Huron
6. Dylan Nason- Perkins
7. Collin Mell- Bath
8. Jacob Anderson- Columbian

I may not be giving Copeland enough love here. Not only has he been excellent the last two years, placing at state both seasons, but he seems to be at his best come tournament time.
Last year he majored Juwan Minnifield 10-2 in the district semis before knocking off state placer Thurston Dyer 3-1 for the title.
In Columbus, he toughed out a 6-1 overtime win over a stingy Greg Briggs in the consolation semis prior to pinning C.J. Frost to earn a bronze medal.

1. Sid Ohl- Ashland (7th state)
2. Xavier Torres- Wauseon
3. Caleb Cass- Cloverleaf
4. Chase Patton- Bowling Green
5. Brandon Derr- Upper Sandusky
6. Emilio Calderon- Perkins
7. Zach Sanger- Buckeye
8. Calvin Brown- Elida

I flipped Torres and Bailey after being told that Bailey is now the bigger of the two. I wouldnít be surprise if either or both made the district finals.

I might have Patton ranked too low here. He beat district placer Zach Altman 5-2 at the NLL where he placed 3rd.
Unfortunately, he was unable to participate in the post season last year.

1. Noah Clary- Upper Sandusky (SQ)
2. Andrew Bailey- Wauseon
3. Zach Altman- Napoleon (6th district)
4. Brahm Ginter- Shelby
5. Justin Schneider- Maumee
6. Cal Miller- Wapakoneta
7. Ethan Hundley- Bellevue
8. Cory Stallings- Cloverleaf

Ginter was a bout from placement at this district last season, losing close matches(5-2 and 4-2) to district placers C.J. Cook and Derek Schuette respectively.
He also pinned state qualifier Trevor Ulman and majored Zach Keller 10-2 over the course of the year.

1. Robbie Bowers- Defiance (2nd, 2nd state)
2. Keysean Amison- Perkins (8th state)
3. Alex Andrews- Napoleon (SQ)
4. Patrick Keown- Firelands
5. Eric Middleton- Clyde
6. Jack Rodgers- Rocky River
7. Justin Ochletee- Keystone
8. Nick Smythe- Bellevue

Last season, Andrews won a district title at this weight over 2x state placer Braden Neuberger who he beat 6-4 in the finals.
If heís still at 170, he could have state finalist Bowers moving down from 182 and state placer Amison moving up into the weight, but I wouldnít be surprised to see him make a return trip to the district finals this season.

1. Tre Terry- Bath (SQ)
2. Josh Barr- Bay (SQ)
3. Devin Gochinski- Ashland (6th district)
4. David McCullough- Keystone (6th district)
5. Austin Giesige- St. Maryís Memorial
6. Cordell NewmanĖ Wapakoneta
7. Sam Hunter- Sandusky
8. Douglas Childers- Firelands

Giesige is a sneaky good wrestler around this weight. He beat Newman 3-1 in consolation finals of the Napoleon Sectional and wrestled a one-point match with state placer Shykel Jones in the first round of the district tournament last years as a sophomore.

1. Tony Banister- Wauseon (2nd, 8th state)
2. Abdullah Silmi- Norwalk (8th state)
3. Pete Abraham- Padua (5th district, 6th district 2015)
4. Matthew Cover- Bay (5th district)
5. Ryan Kelley- Clyde
6. Andrew Lorcher- Perkins
7. Tyler Bath- Vermillion
8. Josh Bever- Ashland

I donít remember a time when Clyde didnít have quality upper-weights, and this season should be no exception.
Kelley split bouts with Lorcher and district placer Logan Vannest last season, also knocking off Bath 8-4 at the SBC tournament.
I wouldnít be surprised to see him and Mange make a run to the state tournament at seasonís end.

1. Landon Hall- Wapakoneta (4th, 6th state)
2. Brandon Phillips- Maumee (SQ)
3. Connor Johnston- Upper Sandusky (5th district)
4. Greg Packard- Brookside (6th district)
5. Bobby Gross- Bath
6. Noah Meeker- Elida
7. Larry Verhovec- Firelands
8. Bradley Rine- Bellevue

I hadnít heard much about Johnston last season prior to the district tournament, but he picked up 3 pins and a tech at the district tournament including a fall over Packard in the alternate final.

1. JaíMez Young- Sandusky (4th state)
2. Devin Williams- Shelby (5th district 2015)
3. Bailey Young- L. Shawnee (6th district 2015)
4. Sean Lipscomb- Firelands
5. J.D. McCardle- Clearview
6. Maxton Edgerly- Bay (5th district)
7. Jayden Neal- Bath
8. Keslyr Hooper- Lexington

Tyler Newlan is another wrestler to keep and eye out for on a loaded Ashland team. He pinned state placer Sean Williams at the OCC Tournament last year.

Iím not sure if either of the Sosas can make 220, but thereís no doubt that Wauseon will have a quality heavyweight.
Alex Sosa won a bout at the district tournament last season as a sophomore, and heíll be joined by Samuel Sosa (assuming that heís not still in junior high) who was 5th at the middle school state tournament last year.

1. Wauseon
2. Ashland
3. Napoleon
4. Defiance
5. Perkins
6. Wapakoneta
7. Buckeye
8. Firelands

Wauseon seems to be the class of the tournament, and Iím most interested to see how some of their younger wrestlers will develop.
Wrestlers like middle school state placers Nolan Ray and Sosa along with Xavier Torres and Davis could turn this team from a strong favorite into a juggernaut.

Napoleon looks very deep once again, despite the departure of state champ Seth Beard.
State qualifiers Granados, Bohl, and Andrews return along with district placers Altman and Brown.
Any or all of those wrestlers could make a trip to the state tournament and grab a spot on the podium at seasonís end.

Wapakoneta could well be higher in the rankings by seasonís end. Not only do they have established entities in 2x state placers Hall and Copeland, but they also have wrestlers like Luke Beach, Brad Beemer, Ryan Lowden, and middle school state placer Evan Kaeck who arenít ranked now but could be by the end of the season.

Buckeye is another team with some intriguing depth to their squad. Bartos, Bartinelli , and Clark are all likely to make the state tournament. They also have wrestlers like Sanger, Jarrod Settliff, and Jarrett Lowery who should push for district placement.

A special thanks to Boro Fan for all the insight into the weights of the wrestlers, Baumís Page and Jakeís Wrestling for all of the results that they provide, and to any of the other wrestling nerds that actually read these things.

If everything plays out like what you have predicted, how high do you think Wauseon can place at the state tournament?

I don't think a runner-up finish is out of the question.

That being said, they'll need a lot of things to go their way.

Torres, Yackee, and/or Bailey will likely have to place (definitely a possibility), Ramirez and/or Bainster winning would be huge (not unlikely), and they'd likely need Ritter, Slattman, or Barajas to place (maybe two of them).

Thanks for the update. I'll edit the next set of rankings.

Doe that put Campbell at 126?
