They probably should have made a Thanos stand alone before IW

A Quiet Place (2018)- saw this movie today after concluding that the rest of the movie slate this week was pretty weak. I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm not much of a horror movie guy, but this one was very well done. The movie is directed by John Krasinsky who also plays the role of the father of the family in the movie. The movie involves monsters that hunt by sound, requiring the family to stay silent to avoid drawing the monsters to them. His real life wife, Emily Blunt, plays his wife and is the best actor in the movie. Very suspenseful and very well done.

Evil Genius- documentary on NFLX- 7/8. Creepy, weird story, perfectly done. It’s about the Pizza delivery guy who was forced to rob a bank with an explosive device strapped to his neck. Same story from that movie 30 Mins or Less.

It was a good movie. I felt bad eating popcorn at the theater because it was so quiet I didn’t want people hearing me chew. The whole movie there was hardly any sound at all. It reminded me of stranger things a little bit.

Buzzard (2015) - Messed up fun. Trailer comments describe it best.

Agreed.

Undefeated (2012) - Moving documentary about underprivileged high school athletes from inner-city Memphis and the volunteer football coach with the passionate desire to improve the lives of his players.

7.5/8

The Vanishing (1993) - American remake of a 1988 Dutch-French thriller about a sociopathic kidnapper (Jeff Bridges) and a man (Kiefer Sutherland) obsessed with finding his missing girlfriend. Not as good as the original film, but still worth a watch.

4.5/8

Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) - This remarkable allegorical drama, cast with mostly first-time actors and set in a desolate bayou community, tells the story of a tough 6-year-old girl who is set on saving her testy father from a mysterious ailment. At the age of nine, Quvenzhané Wallis became the youngest Best Actress nominee in Oscar history.

7/8

Silver Linings Playbook (2012) - Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert DeNiro deliver stellar performances in this unconventional romantic comedy/drama about a man who is released from a mental hospital into the care of his parents, only to obsessively work to win back his estranged wife. When he meets the mysterious, recently-widowed Tiffany, she offers to help him get his wife back if he agrees to enter a dance competition with her. Quirky rather than mushy.

7/8

Good comparison.

I read a review that suggested you pass any gas before you enter the theater. LOL.

I had seen this when it originally came out. I actually liked the first season of the series better than the movie. I don't give out hardly any "8's" and 7's are about as high as I go unless I am totally blown away so a "6" for me is a pretty high rating, I gave it an "8" out of 10 on IMDB site. A "6" on my scale is a great movie, and it was a great movie....

LA Confidential: 7/8 -1 for being that movie that has to summarize and explain everything with a monologue at the end. Great performances. I'm not a Spacey fan in general but this was a good role. He does know how to die.

Fastball- 7/8. Really cool documentary on a NFLX regarding the science behind throwing and hitting a fastball. A bunch of HOFers and current MLB stars are interviewed.

I've seen this movie several times already, but I'm going to include it for this month:

In Bruges (2008) - Dark comedy about two hitmen (Brendan Gleeson & Colin Farrell) who are sent to Bruges, Belgium to lay low after a botched job. So many great quotes.

In Bruges: I didn't care for his Three Billboards but I liked this one. One of those movies I feel a little guilty for laughing. I like those.

Chappaquiddick - I am very glad I saw this film. I hate politicians. I hate the privileged and the self entitled in our political class. I am so tired of the Kennedys and the Clintons and even the Bushs (although the best of them is I believe Jeb's son who is now in local politics in Florida). Hypocrisy, hubris and corruption, this film puts all of that in our face.

Sabotage Agent (aka The Adventures of Tartu) (1943) - A somewhat superficial British WWII drama. Nothing special, it was just mildly entertaining.

Gagarin: First in Space. 6/8 very enjoyable. I can see me rewatching this. A bit Disney I'm presuming. -2 for having signs pertinent to the story but not subtitled.

lol: they ejected their astronauts. Pooped them right out of the capsule and made them walk back to "Houston." I'm presuming. Well they didn't really show that part but no spoilers other than to say the landing was hilarious.

Symptoms (UK-1974)

Horror: Out in the country side in the woods and next to a swampy lake is a mansion where a woman lives alone. Her friend though is worried about her so she visits and learns that her friend hears things and she knows every thing about the woods and the woods have been bad.... OK, so something is not adding up here. The creepy axe guy does not sit well either.... this one is very atmospheric and not much action until later on.... 5.5/8

The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958) - This was an interesting film about a British missionary in China on the eve of WWII. Ingrid Bergman was her normal awesome self and the rest of the actors were decent as well. British actor, Robert Donat, does a pretty good job of playing a Chinese mandarin.

Cast a Deadly Spell (1991)

Horror/Comedy: 1948 LA and everyone is doing magic. Private Eye Lovecraft is hired to find the Necromonican (sp? brain cramp) but he is not the only one looking. This sort of spoof is not my cup of tea.... 3.0/8
