Recreational Golf 2018

I'm surprised, even with wishful thinking, that this thread hasn't been started.

I'm pretty sure we were golfing last March, but it doesn't look like things will clear up until at least the second weekend in April.

I went to a covered driving range today with a friend and hit 75-80 balls, and will probably pay for it tomorrow. I have joined Sleepy Hollow again and will be be playing multiple rounds with my cousin, and once summer begins, I will more than likely be out every day.

I will also be playing with a Tuesday traveling group and will be playing with one son, using his ESPN pass. We will be playing Shale Creek, The Quarry, Little Mountain, Fowlers Mill, and Raintree.

Of course there will be several rounds with Myron!

You and Myron need to get back to Portage County to find that "special" deal on ProV1's!

Headed to Hilton Head and the Masters (Wednesday) next week. Hope to get some swings in down there.

Unfortunately, the Kent State course is closed. We will hit several courses in the Summit/Portage/Medina area, though.

I have been kinda lookin for this thread also. I have been really depressed seeing it pop up on my FB news feed that I have played on this day last year. I haven't even changed the grips on my clubs yet this year (hoping to get it done this weekend) and get my bag ready.

I will be buying a membership to my local course and play 9 holes a few times a week. I also am playing in the MGA again this year. The weather has finally gotten warmer, but now it won't stop raining. LOL

Well my first two times out have been a disaster. I have only played 9 holes twice, but I can't make contact with my irons to save my life right now.

I was finally able to get out yesterday morning. I started off the year right, with a scramble birdie on the first hole. I guess it's all downhill after that.

Of course rain is the victor today.

Here's to a dry and decent upcoming weekend.

Will do.

The tentative plan is to get out both or one of the days.

Has anyone been playing, lately?

We got out last Sunday and earlier today. It was a bit cool and windy today, but I'm just happy to get out and smack the ball around.

Two of us teed off at 10:00 and there were three foursomes several holes ahead of us. One brave, young soul was even out in shorts. I'm guessing his warmth may have been alcohol fueled.

Outside of the three foursomes and us, not a soul out.

I drove by a couple of courses today and no one was out. My league has rained out three Tuesdays in a row! Hope to start up this Tuesday.

Played Big Met today. Tried to sneak on as a single at 3pm on a Saturday and YIKES it was packed. Ended up playing with 2 other guys. Took about 3 hours to play 9 holes. Avoid at all costs.

3 hours to play 9.... that's horrible! I think the entire "hurry up golf" is a load a crap, but that is insane.

I am thinking about upgrading my irons this year. I don't need the latest and greatest (not looking to spend $800 on a set). I've been using a Golf Galaxy house set for about 10 years. Prior year models would be fine for me. Any suggestions on the best place (Greater Cincinnati area) to get a good deal on a set of irons?

You should definitely check out Golf Galaxy's pre-owned selection. Miles of Golf in Fairfield has some good deals as well.

I played 9 behind a junior tournament at Windmill Lakes the other night. One thing the junior golf system is not teaching kids is ready golf. Pretty swings but way too slow.

Once you find what you want, I always check rockbottomgolf.com for prices. Sometimes they have some pretty decent deals.

I played 18 Saturday and never found a rhythm. Then went out and walked 18 at my local course. Played the front in 44, but then on the back ran out of gas and put up a horrible 51. But it being Mother's Day was nice...I walked 18 by myself even struggling on the back in less than 3 1/2 hours.

In a golf league this year for the first time. Shot a miserable 48 first week, came back with a 43 last week.

48 isn't great, but it isn't horrible either. 43 is a good score, do you guys play straight up or use the handicap system?

Always tough when you're settling into a league. Different faces and routines, generally rushing out after work and pressing to show you're not a hack. I played the worst golf of my life for 4 to 6 weeks when I joined my league 5 or 6 years ago, but I settled in.

I've shot 43 and 40 my first two league weeks this year. Happy with that start as I usually start slowly.

Nice.

My best round ever was a 40 (double eagle w/one iron) 44 (reverted to form). Used a five iron and putter exclusively. (Jack Nicklaus idea) Didn't work the next time and went back to the three wood et al. Just gotta hit the woods some!

They use a handicap but honestly Iím not sure how all thatís determined. My 48 was adjusted to a 45 week 1, not sure how my 43 was adjusted.

If you exclusively used a five iron and putter, how did you score a 2 with a one iron? LIER!!!

Played my worst round in 2 or 3 years tonight, like I'd never held a damn club before. Hadn't played in a week, but it felt like years. Effing game.

39 tonight in my league, one of the better rounds of 9 I’ve ever posted. And that is without hitting the call off the tee to save my life.

Got out and walked 9 tonight and shot a 44. Missed a few putts that I just flat misread and always have that one hole that I end up taking a triple on.
