EOAC Week 1 thoughts

Columbiana @ Western Reserve
Wellsville @ Beaver Local
East Palestine @Salem
Minerva @ United

Some of the more interesting games week 1, any thoughts?

Two of these could be the GOTW, Clippers/Devils, Quackers/Bulldogs, but we will see come Thursday.

It should a very interesting week of football I am interested in the United/ Minerva game. I think United can contend for the conference title. Reserve and Clippers are always an interesting and entertaining game as is Salem/ EP. Hoping the young Tigers can stay with Beavers early and gain some confidence.

Is united supposed to be good? What were they like last year I forget?
I suppose if so, other than Leetonia, mayybbee southern, it should be a competitive league possibly?

Interested to see the results of this columbiana-Reserve game tonight. We know Reserve is going to be good with all the returning talent, but Columbiana is a mystery after losing a lot to graduation. If the Clippers are competitive, or win, they'll be a major threat to win this league.

I'd bet Spaite will be in every official's huddle doing his usual persuading.

Western Reserve 34-3 FINAL

Looks like the Devils are for real. Although I personally think this is a re-building year at Columbiana.

Just by going off the highlights it looks like Columbiana is still running a spread offense and not back to the veer

Most people picked the Devils.
But thought columbiana would give them a better game.

hoping the young tigers can keep a close game with the much bigger beavers tigers roster is mostly underclassmen and the schedule is brutal but that will only prepare them for the games later in the season! seems like no one is giving them a chance lets hope the new coaching staff is using that to get these young guys pumped up because when they're jr;s and seniors they will be the ones handing out the losses.

lets go tigers1!!

Can anyone come up with a good reason why United, Salem, EP, Minerva, E. Liverpool, and Beaver are not in a league together?? Some of these teams already play each other in their leagues or OOC schedules. The proximity of these schools would put people in the stands, cut down on travel costs, and the teams would be pretty competitive with each other. Just seems like a pretty easy solution to the growing league issues around the area.

So now this is up for discussion again?

Odd, it was mentioned before and picked apart on here. Won't happen, sorry.

I agree this will never fly the teams mentioned are already in three different leagues . Just give the new leagues a chance before you try to reorganize them every year.

Even the new EOAC will not have the same teams in a few years, it will have to change. Regardless of competing in D6 because of CB, two are still D5 in base enrollment. Think about it.

Two games this coming week will define where the league might be headed.

United-Salem depending on how United plays. Most of this series has been all Salem. United beat Minerva, but Minerva is just a shadow of itself from the past.

EP-Perry. How well the Bulldogs perform will be interesting after last week's heart breaker at Salem.

I keep seeing where is Ep and United are D5 but competitive balance is not going anywhere. So for at least the next two years all the schools are D6 or D7. I don't see open enrollment slowing down at some schools so it will likely to continue to the same divisions. Sit back relax and try to enjoy the new league for a while.

Looking towards week 2 I'm a bit worried about Columbiana as a McDonald fan, even though they got crushed by Reserve. The Clipps still are running the spread passing attack and McDonald's secondary is very inexperienced, 3/4 starters just made their first start (and varsity playing time) Friday, they did adequate but Brookfield had success passing. The D-Line did do well racking up a few sacks and that will need to happen Friday.

Right now, I'd like to think Spaite is more worried about McDonald.

Well I don't think there is any doubt after week 1 that McDonald is the favorite. They controlled the LoS against a huge Brookfield team and ran for over 300, I'd expect more of the same this Friday. Just a very inexperienced secondary against a spread passing team will be of concern, especially on the road.

I did not catch the whole game, I did watch pieces of it plus the highlights. From what I saw plus the scores elsewhere, I think EP is definitely the favorite in the league, with an exceptional player in Sherry. EP will just need to get through this upcoming week healthy and I think they can finish 7-3 or even run the table and go 8-2
