Bowl Games You Are Watching

The Dollar General Bowl between Appalachian State (8-4) and Toledo (11-2) is the first college bowl game I care enough to watch this year. Last year, ASU nipped Toledo in the Camellia Bowl 31-28. I am looking for another good game this year between these two excellent programs. What's in your "game wallet" this year? Or, are you already ahead of me? Just waiting for the premier games?

Watched both the earlier ones. Both had great finishes. Glad to see Army finish strong.

Army - yes, good to see them win. Wish this game had been close, but...no.

The Bowl season so far has really stunk. The better teams from the non-Power 5 Conferences have not shown much and the games have been really sloppy. Also if a Junior or Senior starter gets a hang nail they do not play so that the coach can get a feel for how the younger player will do, most of these games so far look and feel like NFL preseason games. Finally attendance has been and will be an issue again for some of these games played in mid south locations. That Zaxby's Bowl Game played in Dallas between two Power 5 teams had a fraction of the attendance that a lower level Texas HS championship game has. It doesn't help when the weather is low 30s and rain. Wonder how many folks will show up at Yankee Stadium for the Pinstripe Bowl with temps in the lower 20s?

Iowa beats Boston College. See... that loss wasn't so bad!

I flit back and forth between whichever games are on. The one thing that is beginning to turn me off to some of these games is it seems as if every time a guy doesn't catch a pass he is calling for a flag.

Looked like there was some bad blood at the end of the Texas Missouri game. Texas scored a 20 yard TD on a reverse with about a 1:40 left in the game already up by 10. Probably could have run the game out by kneeling on it.

Several players and coaches making a Texas gesture at the Missouri bench. Apparently it was something from the pregame that set this up.

Finally a couple of good games yesterday. Was not aware of the Iowa Bowl win drought, kind of shows how easy the B1G west is at this time. Really happy for Purdue though, maybe they use this to spring board to an 8 win season next year and Jeff Brohm to a high level BCS gig.

Didnít Brohm turn down Tennessee? As badly as they have handled their last few hires, UT is still a very good gig. Especially with Phil Fulmer able to offer administration-level support.

The UT coaching search was the definition of a dumpster fire this year, Brohm could do better.

Nice to see Purdue and Iowa, two teams that would most definitely finish at the bottom of the MAC, pull out bowl wins yesterday.

Today will be first decent slate of games with MSU-Wazu, Stanford-TCU, and OK State-VA Tech going

Missouri players were giving the horns down sign in pregame and apparently also did so at an event leading up to the game where both teams were present. The Texas players and coaches were mimicking the Missouri QB's TD celebration. Game wasn't as chippy as the announcers seemed to think it could be, but a lot of talking after plays on both sides.

Apparently Michigan and South Carolina players almost ended up in a fight last night at a bowling event. Neither head coach was in attendance.

Iowa beats Erv Meyers and gets to go play a bowl game in 16 degree wind chill.

Not watching but caught the score, Navy is absolutely curb-stomping Virginia. 42-7 near end of the 3rd.

Watched the 1st half... UVA's only points were off a KO return to start the game, after that no offense at all. UVA QB, Kurt Benkert, looks awful too. This guy is supposedly a late round option in the NFL draft for a team looking for a developmental QB. He was just 15/35 for 133 yards and an INT against an OK Navy defense, not very developmental NFL in my book.

It's probably just me, but I find myself more and more turning off the sound and just watching the game. A result of so many bowl games is a plethora of poor announcers.

osu/USC and playoffs for me the rest of them are meaningless and boring. The attendance is bad, announcers are boring, and it's too many of them. I'm a Florida State guy and they went 6-6, IMO, there's no way we should be in a bowl neither should anybody that's not over .500. Your celebrating mediocrity. To be honest osu/USC means nothing either but I have a local interst in osu.

I think it's nice to have a bowl game on in the background on a random weekday.

3-0 for the B1G

Up to Northwestern and the Buckeyes to keep it going tomorrow. I think 7-1 is a legit possibility.

Dad was in the Navy in the Pacific during WWII. I've always pulled for them.
After the opening KO return for a TD by Virginia, Navy "torpedoed" them.

Michigan State looked great in the Holiday Bowl, granted Luke Falk was missing but Wazzu supposedly had this great defense that must not have gotten the memo they were to play in a Bowl Game yesterday. Sparty racked up over 400 yards of offense and Lewerke looked like a solid dual threat QB. The B1G East next year could be crazy good.

The big off field news this bowl season has been the almost brawl between Michigan and South Carolina at a bowling alley and some Wiscy players renting a fishing charter then pulling in a 450 lbs hammerhead shark.
