rankings

Why are the Milesplit rankings so different from the top 40 list that they put out today? I had a number of kids that were in good shape, and still appear to be if I go on the rankings and look at D1 indoor, but then I go to the top 40 list under their headlines and we drop way down.

It is perplexing that things seem to be less organized than it was 10 years ago.

10 years ago, it was very simple.

Is that top 40 list under the headline not filtered by division?

They may have changed when conversions were made-I had athletes move down the 1600 and 3200 lists when mile and two mile times were converted....

Does anyone know when the facility will open on Saturday? I read in the meet information from Spire's website that coaches packets will be distributed starting at 8:30 and that implement weigh-ins will begin at 8:00, but I don't see anywhere that says when doors will open.

7:30?
8:00?

In case anyone else was wondering, Charlie Powell says 8:00 is when doors will open.

Extremely doubtful. If you're coaching an athlete there, then I remember (10yrs ago, now) not paying. However, being Joe Schmo from off the street, even with paid OATCCC membership? I wouldn't think so.

As recently as two years ago when akron was still hosting you could get in free with your memebership card. Iím not sure if that has changed since then or not.

If that is true and remains true, then I stand corrected, and gladly so.

You can find the links to PDFs that have the team scores below:

This kind of roundabout method of producing results by lightningtiming and others is one of the reasons why people have been chiming in in favor of Finish Timing.

Interesting or maybe not so interesting that Lakota East can win the DI girls title by cleaning up in the sprints, 1, 2 in both the 60 and 200 for 36 of their 53Ĺ points, rest came in the 400 and sprint relays, 4 x 200 and 4 x 400.

I wasn't at all surprised as I've been tracking LE's Serena Clark & Kaylyn Heath's performances all season as I compile all-time lists for many events. I have Kaylyn 4th all-time in the 60m with her 7.48, trailing Abby Steiner (7.36), Tianna Madison (7.43), and Justice Richardson (7.47). However, I'm far from completing that listing. Clark might make the top 10, but I won't have good lists until later this year.

As far as the 200m goes, I've only begun compiling lists, and the big ovals of UK, SPIRE, Akron, and Kent don't count for record purposes and get put into their own categories of over-sized track performances. The record for legal tracks appears to be Steiner's 23.51 from the New Balance Indoors last year.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't there a Dayton team, perhaps Wayne, back in the early-mid 90's that won the outdoor D1 with only 5 guys, all sprinter/hurdlers? We've certainly seen more than one individual win a state meet before, and they were all sprinter/hurdler/jumpers.

I was under the fallacy that going to scoring eight would make it harder for one dimensional teams to win.

Well, I think that is certainly the operating theory. However, when you've got several individuals on the same team that are in the top 5-6 in the state in the same events that have carry-over value like the sprints, you can score big-time with just a few individuals with multiple 1-2 or 1-3 finishes in just a couple of events. Give me a team with a core of top notch 400m people, and I'll show you a team that will almost never lose. 400m talent can score points from the 100m thru the 1600m, all 4 relays (HS), and have some carryover to some of the field events. 100m/200m sprinters have lesser value, relatively speaking, but LE's 1-2 punch right now is more than enough at the current time. They seem to be a well-coached pair.

Aren't banked 200M tracks subject to the same conversion as over-sized tracks?

With regard for qualifying to say the NCAA/USATF/World's, conversions may be the same. However, for record purposes, conversions are not in play. World & US records are set on both banked & flat tracks as long as they are 200m. I can't remember the last time any major record was set on anything less than 200m, it must be 20+ years or so. I'd be hard pressed to name a major record on anything flat.
