Hey Licking County Fan,

Does Cap City Preps still coordinate this game, or is it another group just using the Cap City title for the game?

I know Anthony Murphy coordinated this game thru Cap City Preps, but he told me he was stepping down before last year's game, and I couldn't find info on who to call. Their website and FB page haven't been updated since 2015.

Thanks for any info. When are you coming to a Hamilton Township game again?

I am not sure if Cap City Preps is in on this or not.

I know one of the coaches, if I get a chance I will ask him.

It's at Reynoldsburg again, so i would guess they could be contacted for info.

Not sure on the next visit to H.T.

Do you guys have a Thursday night game this season?

Going back to the injury possibility, I do find it interesting that Bowden is playing in the Jack Arvin this Friday and UK is ok with it. But it'll be fun to watch him one more, especially in this setting

Trumbull is the better team but very sloppy play. Mahoning with a punt return td. 14-7 art the half with Trumbull winning.

Bowden with the first td for those interested.

And the game is called with 3:15 left. Officials walked off after Trumbull starts jawing with them after several penalties thrown their way.

Trumbull County 20, Mahoning County 7 - Final / 3:15 left. Called early

Wow, that is just sad. Was it players. Coaches, or both? WKBN didn't report that part, probably trying to keep it classy

The basic way I saw from the stands was:

Trumbull player commits penalty and is ejected (not sure the exact reason). He has to be pulled off the field by another player escorting him. Linemen and others standing near formation waiting for the penalty to be called and assessed. Players are all jawing with eachother. It's clear at least one of the lineman for Trumbull was yelling at the referee. He said something, because the official threw his flag, blew his whistle. Picked up the flag and declared "The game is over" and the officials huddled quickly and then walked off the field.

It was clear they did not want any part of whatever it was that was going on between the players. The game was a bit chippy with some really big hits. Including a near blindside hit that luckily avoided requiring the kid to be carted off.

If this were a regular game, I think the officials would've controlled the game earlier on. But, being an all-star game, they tended to keep the flag in their pocket and the players played. It was sloppy, and Trumbull kept having bad snaps (big yardage losses on them). Which equalized the game as they were clearly better.

After the officials left, the players began lining up for handshakes, and the coaches and police that were there as field security stopped them from interacting, instead pointing them to either ends of the field. THEN, after that, and most of the crowd clearing out, they did line up to shake hands and nothing happened. But you could tell by the way coaches and officials were watching the handshake line, they were certain to squash anything that may happen quickly.

That part still seemed odd. The game was called due to the players misconduct apparently to each other and the officials, and yet they still ended up being put through a handshake line at the end before awarding the game MVPs.

Either way, it was a good game. Both teams came out to play, it was a 'real' game, in that nobody seemed to be loafing it on the field despite it starting out quite humid and hot. Good crowd. Maybe 1,000 total.

Trumbull was better, Bowden scored a long TD run, and apparently threw the second touchdown pass to the endzone that was a spectacular catch. Mahoning's TD was on a punt return on a good cut back. QB from Lisbon was good, but the receivers were just not getting open for him. Or, when they did, he already had to scramble to escape pressure. The biggest thing, though as mentioned, was the bad snaps by Trumbull. Several major yardage losses from snaps getting past the QB in shotgun killed several drives.

The media said that Bowden threw 2 TD's. The long one to his Harding teammate Richardson and a short pass to Tyriq Ellis from howland, who turned it to a long catch & run. Thanks for the update on that

Ah, didn't realize he had the second passing TD as well. I only remember the long pass being his. Yeah, the short pass was just good blocking on the far side of the field and cut back and used the referee as a pick on the defender.

The officiating in this hame was some of the worst I have seen in some time. It was just a microcosm of how bad the officiating has become in this area over the last few years. These guys were more concerned with throwing penalties on celebration on touchdowns than protecting the players. Specifically Bowdens hit out of bounds, #8 from trumbull being blindsided by Koontz and a few others. Then for them to just to turn and walk off the field as a possible melee was brewing behind them, I have never seen such a thing. Not sure how these guys got picked but tgey certainly didn't deserve to do this game. The kids on the field deserved much better

Thanks for the game re-cap, very nicely written.

Sounds like it was a good decision by the coaches on the handshake, especially to monitor it closely. Better that than letting it fester and possibly having someone next year use "Remember, they didn't shake our hands last year!" as their battle cry, IMHO. Well, that may be a tad pessimistic.

Either way, I think it gave the players a chance to dial the emotions back and remember that in the end, it's just a game.

Quite a few articles on many of the players in this Saturdays Stark East/West All Star game. Also some focusing on the newest members of the Stark County High School Hall of Fame.
