Yeah that was a bit overboard. I'd say for the level of excitement surrounding the MLS, a single post the next morning would have sufficed.

It was a hell of a game with an enormous crowd.

The Browns couldn't dream of having 72000 show up for a game.

And that was a legit 72000, not an nfl 72000

I was channel surfing and ran into this thing last night. To me the original story was how would the Crew play with the looming relocation hanging over their heads but then I became completely fascinated by the ATL crowd. Did they get this type of raucous crowd for every home game? ATL is historically known for the poor attendance and fan backing for their pro teams; this was the complete opposite of that, what gives? Now I see why MLS is looking the other way as they move the Crew, especially if Mapfire is half empty for a playoff game.

As for the game... 0-0 after 120 minutes of play?!? At the stadium maybe this was engaging but on the tube it was just short of watching a bad English drama on Masterpiece Theater. Also, I still hate penalty kicks to decide a knockout game, there has to be a better way to decide a victor.

Almost every game was a sellout

If you didn't enjoy that game you're probably not a big soccer fan. No big deal. it's not everyone cup of tea.

It's kinda like enjoying a 1-0 baseball game. You either like it or you don't.

I cared. And yes it is news when you get 70,000 plus fans who are clearly into the game in the heart of SEC country. The times they are a changing.

This would be relevant if there were SEC games taking place last night.

I think the ATL soccer club is not targeting the traditional SEC fan.

Not too many UGA fans in this shot>

Not too many Atlanta United fans in nthis shot>

How do you know it's not the same crowd with the soccer fans simply representing the SEC folks after a couple of shots of Kentucky Whiskey.

Yea and five years ago NO ONE and I mean NO ONE would have predicted that Atlanta could draw a crowd of 70,000 for an MLS soccer game.

Columbus' trick-or-treat on Tuesday is from 6-8 and the match starts at 8. Terrible timing for something like this as the fans need a packed house to prove their point.

Sure Soccer has been oversold for decades. We all know that but in 1990 we didn't even have an MLS and now we have an expanding MLS that is charging new owners $150,000,000 just for the privilege of joining the league! And they're lining up to pay the money. Not to mention that in some MLS cities they are drawing huge crowds week after week.

Looking at it from 10,000 feet there is no way you can't be impressed with the progress made by the MLS and soccer in general over the last 20 years in the USA.
