Suburban League Tournament

How will the tournament be run this year..at Barberton?
American/National mixing it up or separate again until finals?

Would be nice to see some inter-division matchups.

Who's got the scoop? Thx!!

They are done with the separate after the debacle year one. No idea on how things are scored though.

They had a completely separate tournament for the divisions. Separate team champions and separate individual league champions. I remember sitting around for a long time before the first set of finals. I think they had a specific time they wanted to start at and it was a good while after the semi finals. ( I could be a little shaky on when this occurred. There was an extended wait at some point)

At the end of the tournament, they wanted to have a "super finals" with the league winners wrestling each other in a match that didn't count for team points and wouldn't count on their record. Aurora just left after they wrestled 106. Said it was a waste. There were probably 5 or 6 FFs. It was a mess and a really long day.

I know Wadssworth has a couple of injured wrestlers that probably won't participate (170 and 220), but I heard that North is also injured. True?

Aurora wrestlers wrestled past 106 for sure. Not accurate

I'll admit that my memory is hazy, but Aurora did leave early and it wasn't after too many matches.

As one of the officials it was a CLUSTER #. Has been run very well since that first year.

Aurora's 170 was one of the "ultimate champions" that year, so they didn't leave before 170...

They wrestled the whole league together last year with one set of standings. I have no idea if or how they did the standings for divisional purposes to determine the 50% of the division title that is based on the tournament.

I think they had a format last year where semifinalists were guaranteed top four, and losers prior to the semi could wrestle back to fifth. That's to eliminate any sixth-match situations.

Wadsworth did not wrestle Blaz (170), Suarez (195), or McComas (220) last night. They also did not wrestle Loparo (160).

My fault then. Must have been another team.

One ticket option, $12. for an all day pass. Seniors and Students $8.00. No clearing of the gym for finals which is a good thing. Looking at the best matches, I think the only two highly ranked wrestlers that haven't met this season will be at 182, Wadsworth and Barberton. What should be some of the better matches?

Wadsworth has held the title for many many years. Brecksville is knocking on the door with the dual meet win. How does the tournament play into scoring for conference champion?

I think each dual meet win is worth one point and tournament place among the teams in your division goes from 8-to-1 in the upper (i.e. first = 8) and 7-to-1 in the lower.

3rd Place Match
Marco Regalbuto ( Brecksville-Broadview Heights, OH ) 5-1, Jr. over Daniel Patten (Stow, OH) 6-4, So. (Fall 1:33)

Is this a misprint?

Regalbuto won that by fall. The table just had the red/green on the wrong guys.

I was at the finals, so I can offer observations from that. I can only look at scores for the semis.

106: Stanley with a stronger margin of victory over Lewarchik in the final tonight than in the dual. He's got a loaded district, so Stanley has to build on this going forward.

113: Perelka scored 2+2 late to make the margin more than the match otherwise would have indicated.

120: Julian dominates. Petersen 3-0 TB over Hacker in the semi was most notable to me

126: Not sure how much was Carmany wrestling not well versus Kelley giving it a hell of a fight, but 4-3 win for Carmany is surprising in terms of margin.

132: Tagg took it to Gorman. In the semi, Tagg wrestled Messer much better than he did in the dual.

138: Luke Baughman beat Garr 3-2 in the final, second period takedown the difference. Both wrestled well. Baughman struggled in the semi, only beating Patten 9-8; Garr with an impressive 3-2 over Regalbuto in his semi.

145: Voinovich with a statement victory in an in-season rubber match of North. 5-2 the final score. Scoreless first period, no real deep attacks; Voinovich 2NF in the second, escape and takedown in the third, late reversal for North

152: McGhee beat Vanadia in the final 5-0, takedown and tilt in the first period the difference. Vanadia 7-6 over Ceferatti in the semi.

160: Loparo jumped out to a big lead, Farian tied it with two takedown in the third. Match went to 30-30, third caution on Farian at start of TB1 made it 9-8 Loparo, which was the final score; Farian rode out Loparo in TB1, loparo rode out Farian in TB2 with a side headlock

170: Hatcher 9-7 in OT over Eyre in the final, overcoming a four-point move from Eyre in the second.

182: Wokojance dominated Franks in the final

195: Baughman dominated Zenitska in the final

220: D'Anna 5-0 over Wadsworth backup miller in the final, takedown and turn in the first the difference

285: Earnest dominated Morrocco in the final.

Brecksville eight champs, Wadsworth four champs, Bees win by 35. Barberton and Aurora had the other champs, Aurora finished third.

Someone emailed me yesterday and said they were pretty sure Patten beat Collica, so I'm guessing it is true then. I will move Collica down in the rankings this week (Just in case anyone wonders why Collica is still ranked so high).
