As long as the small private schools make down to the state tournament, there going to suffer in attendance, they have no community,to make up there school district, there would have been a big time difference,if Archbold and Garaway would made it down there, but that's in the ohsaa to make some changes,if not they will always suffer in attendance

Could be a mixed bag for attendance.

D1 - Moller, Pick Central and Solon all should bring decent crowds. Lorain could go either way.

D2 - Should be good crowds as well. St.V's always brings a good crowd, Lexington will bring their whole town, probably bus the whole school on Friday too.

D3 - Honestly will probably be the worst attended games ever for a whole division. All small inner city schools.

D4- Should be alright as well. only 1 private school, the other 3 schools will bring their whole towns with them.

Much of Guernsey County will be there with the Meadowbrook Colts. This is a big event in Cow County.

The only way to increase the actual attendance, but get the same amount of people per say in the Schott is to have double sessions on Thursday and Friday. no reason to keep emptying and making people leave. Play the semi-final games of each division as a double session with 30 minutes in between games. I know you would have to charge more since the OHSAA isnt going to loose money. but I would pay $30 a ticket for a double session. Even more so I dont have to go outstide and walk around for 2 hours. Play an 11 am and 1:30pm then have a break and a night session of 5 pm and 7:30 pm.

The double session thing makes no sense. Tickets now are $12.00 and people don't want to pay that....why would they pay more to see a second game with 2 teams they don't care about. The way it is now, you pay for the games you want to see. This weekend you should be able get into any game you want for $5.00....probably less if you're patient.

The OHSAA makes the same amount of money whether they sell 10,000 tickets at $12 each as they do selling 15,000 tickets at $8 each. If it's me and I'm running the OHSAA I'd much rather have the teams playing with 15,000 people watching their games than 10,000 but for some reason the OHSAA doesn't seem to think so. I have no idea why

alot of other states do the double session and are very successful. most of the people who are in attendance (other then the 1000 from each school and that is generous) are people there for the entire weekend. 2 things happen for the school that just played. the loosing team in leaving and the fans for the winning team are going to buy tickets for the finals. your main attendance is the 6-7k of fans that are there for all 12 games. the NCAA seems to be able to do it for opening weekend. if you dont want to pay, then dont go to the game. additionally dont let TV get to show live games. most people that used to go, stay home and watch on TV.

That's the problem....you may have 6-7000 "weekenders", but then you have all these smaller privates that have popped up who are lucky to bring 250 people...making the average attendance lucky to get to 8,000 now. When tickets were $8-10 instead of $12-15, you had 9-10000 "weekenders" and a lot more people who would come down for one day and watch 4 games than you do now. In the first couple years at the Schott, games in the 14-15000 range were common...and Lebron sold out the place. (with scalpers getting $200+/ticket). If a guy like Lebron was around today, I'm guessing he'd maybe draw 14-15000. The ticket prices are part of the issue....the overall quality of basketball being down is another...and the fact that a lot of people just don't want to drive down on Thursday to watch the 4 teams in D3 play

Hey tcgobucks--let's just go back to St. John Arena with these kind of crowds--went there with my HS coach in 1974 and never thought there was a better place to play the State finals--the Schott and the two years in the mid- 80's at UD didn't compare to the tiny, hard wooden seats at St. John and the hanging over balcony. Went to an NCAA Gymnastics Regional at St. John two years ago and it was in tip-top shape. Move it back to St. John and help the scalpers out.

the prices are not coming down no matter if it stays at the Shott, goes to St Johns, double sessions, no private school, or more cheerleaders. OHSAA is making more money then they know what to do with. if they can make money with 2000 people in the seats they will. just like there VIP seats in the middle sections. $40 a ticket and you get some coke and chips between games.

I enjoy reading the back and forth about attendance, but can anyone say how many of that number each session/game are comps?

Thatís essentially my recollection. A weak session would still garner 11,000 (which is 80% of capacity).

the one thing I would do is put the curtains down on the upper level and dont let people sit there. makes the lower level look full.

The thing that always kills me is how the coaches of the sport who absolutely work their tails off all year long (on top of their full-time jobs) get saddled with just God awful seats three out of every four years, while some retired-for-15 years administrator is eight rows behind the bench.

Probably another thread entirely but that ticket distribution system is a total joke.

You want Godawful seats? Buy one of the tickets the OHSAA gives the fans of the competing schools.

I'd rather sit in the upper levels where I can watch plays develop, court side to me, sucks.
Besides I have access to the AEP Suite.

Indiana State Finals are two sessions (2 games each) tickets are $15 per session.

They also live stream the games via IHSAATV.ORG, last weekend they live-streamed all Regional Final Games and then the final four games and this Saturday will have all four State Finals. Their State Tournament is only the finals, the final fours are played at various sites throughout the State.

Maybe I'm Mr. Money bags over here, but is $4 really the difference between 5k more people coming? There are 5 thousand people per game in the state that say "$12, too rich for my blood, but $8, sure!" I find that hard to believe.

I don't think the attendance decrease is so much the fans from the schools not coming, it's the "weekenders". There are nowhere near as many guys who come for the weekend with their buddy and their 4 boys as there used to be. $4.00/game for a guy and his 3 boys is now $16/game....x 12 games is $196 for the weekend. At $8/game, that extra $196 covers your hotel for the weekend.

Couple that with the 3 or 4 small privates that are playing that may bring 100 fans each compared to the 1500-2000 that most schools bring and it's easy to see why attendance is down 3-4000 Lutheran East, Africentric and Harvest Prep won't bring anyone to their games....for those schools, cost isn't the issue....it's just that they have no fanbase
