Got a good chuckle out of that, but seriously, C'MON MAN. After the football debacle in 2016, are there any adults who know what's going on in the Athletic Department. Feel sorry for the kids and the rank-and-file staff because leadership is still in question in several areas of DPS.

This is really terrible, there are simple procedures that schools follow.

OHSAA/DPS Probation

The probation will be lifted and $2,500 will be refunded if no other similar violations of OHSAA bylaws occur within the first two years. Affected are all six DPS high schools: Belmont, Dunbar, Meadowdale, Ponitz, Stivers and Thurgood Marshall.

Seems like a long time ago but this was what was handed down from the OHSAA from before. Hope to God they don't hold this over the rest of the district. I guess you could say the district forfeits the $2500.

So let's do some MATH. Two (2) years of no football playoff games at Welcome Stadium (in 2 years an easy 100k lost) plus the fines and Baker gets REWARDED with a new contract. But if , DPS fires him (like Super) they will end up paying him to go away and waste even more money.

Plus, HE PERSONALLY talked about putting things in place so this would NEVER happen again. Gotta say, THE BUCK STOPS with him.

Baker is pumped, he's about to get another pay raise.

The athletic department has set these players up for failure. If a kid who already struggles with grade isn't being held to a standard why would he change..

Baker and Everyone in the athletic department that is suppose to be involved with grades and checking eligibility needs to be sent packing..flush the entire system

I would say I hope they just get hammered with sanctions, but those that have done nothing wrong would be punished more than those responsible

I thought their was even more issues if they violated probation than just a fine.

True but the general feeling was they were putting pressure on DPS to fire Baker (can't make'em). If they want, I guess they could keep Dunbar out as the next step but the answe is sooooooo simple.

If it's true that a player didn't sit out his full 2 game suspension because of a fight during a jv game, then that makes the AD and Coach look even more incompetent. Kid should have never had been dressed in first place

If that is the reason and not academics then it falls on the coach. You can't blame an administrator for that one.

Why wouldn't Dunbar be punished for the games the player did not sit and forfeit those games? This happened fairly early in the season.

Sounds like someone kept this in their back pocket and pulled it out at the "right" time....

Uh, it's as much his fault as the coach.....probably even more so. A suspension for fighting is an administative issue from the OHSAA....not a team suspension issued by the coach.

It's not about following simple rules as one poster mentioned, it's about trying to gain an advantage over others on the playing field. Shame, tisk, tisk...

I don’t know what the district was thinking when the renewed Baker contract but now the entire district is at a greater risk.

Are you saying that Dunbar was trying to gain an advantage by not having a JV kid sit?

Here my 2 cents...

1. Oversight by the AD, No one thought that the JV issue was a prevailing factor. "Hey it was a JV game" mindset probably in play here.. I bet you Talyor or no one on that staff was thinking about the OHSAA suspension process for the JV team players. Unfortunate but also unacceptable. Somebody should be watching this.

2. Somebody pulled this one out of the A- -, and was waiting until the playoffs to let the OHSAA know . Probably someone from within DPS too, which makes it even more of a travesty. An anonymous call or email, popped up on the OHSAA radar and they started licking their chops...."Dunbar again" and dished out the consequence with no hesitation.

3. I also heard from various sources the kids in question received only mop-up minutes in Varsity games and were no real significant contributors to the varsity team. How do you miss this??? Sad but reality..

Shame on the the secret "snitch" for waiting until now but to keep it 100...Shame on Dunbar admin again for letting something like this happen...

I'm just blown away that these kids get punished for a mistake made by people who are getting paid quite a bit of $$$. OHSAA is just as bad as the NCAA, if not worse.

The AD has to get a paper signed by said kid acknowledging that he had been suspended. Both him and Coach are responsible.

They both should have known and both should of had that student sitting in street cloths for 2 games. You don't even risk it.

Unfortunate for Dunbar. That was a class program before the coaches got chased out! The AD should be HELD responsible! Now what happens a free pass for people responsible!?!?
Head coaches should always know what’s going on IN their program, period. That’s all. Rise up again Dunbar!

You do know that the "old" basketball coaches were involved in the football scandal a couple years ago????
