McKinley Boys Basketball Applicant Names

Has anyone seen a list of applicant names for the McK Boys job? With its storied past, and the fact that Stark County, and the Federal League will be wide open next year bodes well for whoever might get the job.

Gary Grant and Keith McLeod are among the 5 former players to apply. 39 names in all.

An interesting name that was not mentioned in the article is Darryl Peterson, who was an All-MAC player at Akron in the mid-2000's, and I believe has coached at the middle school level in Canton City the past few years.

Mitch Gilley should be given a look. His dad was a very successful coach I believe.

Mitch Gillam Jr. has been assistant coach at Lorain High the past 5 years or so. previous head coach at Amherst and Fairview. His father was the legendary coach at Lorain Admiral King in the 80s & early 90s, where Mitch Jr. played in the mid 80s.

Thank you, Chongo. The committee has many applicants, and I think they likely have someone in this group who will be a coach who can deliver. Perhaps a coach who is up-and -coming from a smaller school, like Fuline was for Jackson. He turned out to be outstanding, even though he had come there from Streetsboro.

Canton McKinley has been to the state tournament in every decade since the OHSAA started the tournament in 1923. They are the only school in the state to accomplish this. However, the Bulldogs haven't been to the state tourney in this decade, with only 1 year remaining.

Why would anyone want this job? Unrealistic expectations in a dying community that has all types of issues....
