Week 4: St. Edward @ Elder

Another week and another out of town opponent for the Panthers.

Eds is coming in 1-2, is this a down year?

The home team has won this game the last few years... Can the Panthers get to 4-0?

Does the Purple Nation show up for a 4:30 Saturday afternoon game?

Ed’s 2 losses are by a combined 4 points to Mentor and Cass Tech (think Glenville in their hey day). Their D might be a little down, but the Offense is as strong as it’s ever been.

If the weather is decent, could be a shootout, but Elder really needs James back at LT.

If the conditions are anything like yesterday at 430 this game will be really really interesting and nobody will show up! If weather is not to bad I would think a solid crowd and of course a back and forth game.

It’s supposed to be warm/hot and sunny all next weekend. Saturday is looking at a high of 85, low of 66. If that holds up, I’d expect a lot of points to be scored.

Ramsey always seems to open the Offense up bs Ed’s. I expect to see more screens, counters, and other misdirections to keep Ed’s Defense guessing. That Tunnel Screen to Trischler is very effective but I’d like to see more screens to the RBs or maybe that nice little TE slip screen they ran 4 yrs ago that went for a big play. However, please cut down on the QB Draws, Bittner can’t keep taking that many hits every game. He’ll either get hurt or completely wear out as the season goes on.

St. Edward (1-2) at Elder (3-0)

Kickoff: 4:30 p.m. Saturday

Elder is ranked No. 4 in the inaugural AP DI poll this week. The undefeated Panthers have played some strong opponents this season but will face another level of competition on Saturday when Lakewood St. Edward heads to The Pit. The Eagles are 1-2 on the season but their two losses have come by a combined four points to last year's DI state runner-up (Mentor) and a perennial Michigan power (Detroit Cass Tech). Voters recognized the difficulty of the Eagles' early schedule, ranking them No. 16 in the AP state poll despite the two losses. The three big names the Panthers will need to slow down on Saturday are all seniors and are all legitimate DI college prospects. Receiver Quintel Kent has given his verbal commitment to Michigan while Caden Kolesar (five offers) and running back Jordan Castleberry (four offers) are both coming off big weeks. Castleberry scored three touchdowns in the Eagles' win against Erie (PA) Cathedral Prep last week while Kolesar returned a punt 52-yards for a score.

Picks: Elder (Weber, Springer, Hatch, Snodgrass, Dermer, Richardson).

This is definitely a worrisome game. Last year, St. Edward dominated Elder 40-7 gaining 281 yards rushing only having to pass 9 times. Of course, that was last year on the road. Kent and Castleberry return and will be a big challenge for the Elder defense.

Don't let the records fool you...Elder will have its work cut out for them on Saturday.

Ed's has exactly what Elder lacks.

Winnable game, but a damn tough one. Coin toss.

Travel factor is huge. The last 2 trips to Elder, Ed’s has clearly had the more talented team. However, even 16-18 yr olds have trouble staying energized after a 5 hr bus ride. Elder needs to get ahead early while Ed’s is still getting their bearings.

It is concerning from a Defensive perspective, they’re not as good as last yr and Ed’s pounded them. However, the Offense will be far more in sync than last yr’s debacle and Ed’s D isn’t quite as good.

Another key, which ADS mentioned in last week’s thread, Elder needs to finish off drives in the Red zone. I think E will be able to move the ball vs Ed’s in between the 20s, but they can’t settle for FGs or turn the ball over on downs.

Royer is obviously key, not many LBs or Safeties can cover him on a jump ball. But what I’d really like to see is Bono brought in as a blocking TE for those Goal Line runs. They go 2 TEs, but Larkins is more of a receiving TE than a blocker.

Is pboy mad there will be extra tailgating time with the game in the later afternoon on a Saturday?

Game is too important...should be sans tailgating.

Less tailgate time than years past as the 430pm kick is earlier than the typical 7pm kick for Saturday night.

What time do the gates open for the parking lot... for those of us with a pass?

As always, the parking lots open 2 hours before kick off. Stadium gates open 1 hour before kick off.

Actually, pboy can come up early and tailgate with the JV fans, as they will be hosting Louisville Trinity at 11 am.

IDK. The Trinity Sophs are loaded and blew everyone out, and bc E was only Down 7 at half, he felt the need to promote it as some kind of achievement. It’s a pathetic attitude, that unfortunately has festered way too long amongst our fan base. That’s why the AD can brag about “toughness” being more important than winning.

Unless Trinity has all of their studs on Varsity, they’re going to blowout Elder’s JV. Trinity is a program Elder should strive to be more like. They won’t, bc the Admin doesn’t want to put in the work Trinity does, so they’ll just complain about “recruiting” instead.

Long as we tailgaters don’t have to listen to a crying little b!tch at 9am on a Saturday morning! The game results we can deal with. You talking to a group about complaining is comical.

St. Ed coming down and staying. Interesting with the two losses they want to be well rested and well prepared this time around. Losing down here with some very good teams recently they decided to up the ante.

It may also be bc kick off is at 4:30 not 7:30. It pisses me off Elder won’t do that next week. All the $ they’ll make off tomorrow’s game and they don’t want to reinvest it the Program? You could cover the trip from the split the pot $. It shows Elder’s not serious about winning. You’re going to put your team at that kind of disadvantage vs one of the better teams in the state to save a few grand? That’s garbage.

Elder's athletic department must be sitting on a pile of cash the way you talk about them.

How much $ does the football team make relative to every other sport?

How much does (almost) every other sport lose relative to football?

Why do you think Elder was one of the last high schools in Cincinnati to have any pay-to-play fees? It's because football subsidized everything else.

That's why buying brats is so important.

That’s Elder’s fault for using some form of Socialsm to finance their Athletic Dept. If they need $ for travel, ask the Boosters. It’s ridiculous Ed’s can do this and Elder can’t. Next week they’re supposed to get up early in the am, take a 5 hr bus ride and compete?

If you want to make a donation online, here's the link: https://elderhs.myschoolapp.com/page...eId=1211&ssl=1 You should probably put "Football Team Hotel Rooms" in the Comment box.

If you want to send some money to the Booster Club, there's a form here you can print out: http://cdn.prepconnectweb.com/Elder_...order_page.pdf

Do you think if the coaches wanted the team to stay the night before the game in Cleveland they would be told no?

If they’re choosing not to, that’s just plain idiocy. How does it make sense to get up early in the am, take a 5 hr bus ride to play an afternoon game?

And I know you think I’m all talk and wouldn’t put down my own $, but that’s bs. I also know that $ sent to the annual fund wouldn’t be applied to next week’s travel. I’d gladly send a few hundred $ Elder’s way for the trip, but I’m not putting down a couple of grand.
